What do I need to do to fix this? notes - a) changing the samba config files at times knocks out the win95 clients.. (config file below) b) winXP pro systems -

rebuilt XP machine cannot see Samba server
I have been successfully running a Samba server on my home LAN for several years. It's on an old Redhat 9 P3 box. I recently rebuilt my laptop with XP (after hard drive failure). I added just one user, the system administrator, with the same user name and password as before. Now the XP laptop cannot see the Samba server at all. samba server is at 192.168.0.3 XP laptop is at 192.168.0.7 (same

Password Syncronization with Mapped users
I'm not sure if this is supported or not, but I can't get it to work. I'm trying to get the smb password and the unix password to sync for mapped users. I have have 'unix password sync' turned on and I have the username mapping file set up. When I change a users password in windows (where the username is the same in windows and linux) the password changes just fine. When I

Initial install - networking problem
Hi, I'm just installing Samba for the first time and have a problem with name resolution on my test client. Samba 3.0.8 is installed on a RHES system named 'fileserver1 (.our.xxx.edu)'. The clients are Windows 2000 and XP systems. This is a subnet that is part of a larger campus network. There is no Domain, just a workgroup called 'our_adm'. I have a very simple smb.conf file

Samba errors
Hi, We are trying to start and use Samba with a very simple configuration. We are just trying to connect to an existing Windows AD Domain and trying to mount filesystems from the AIX 5.3TL12 server to a Windows server. Can someone tell me what the error really means for nmbd and where should I start to look to resolve it? log.samba: smbd version 3.5.8 started. Copyright Andrew Tridgell

winbindd caching bug?
I've had weird problems getting winbind authentication working on my site. I eventually cured them by sticking -n on winbindd, thus turning off the caching. This was on a Redhat FC2 client authenticating with whatever domain servers our central IT people use. I tried the Samba that came with FC2 and a fresh 3.0.4 release compiled from source. Here's what happened: "getent

Hello, I have used Samba to create a file share of a folder on a linux box that I have setup for testing purposes. When I go to map a drive to this share on my Windows XP machine I can see the shared folder on this computer. Share Problem
I'm trying to setup a share on my samba server that will allow me to write to the disk on my windows 98 box. Here is my smb.conf file: [global] # workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name workgroup =

long filenames (8.3) issue
Hi there, We map a Sun Microsystems (Solaris 9) drive to a Windows 2003 server. This works fine except for the long UNIX (tm) filenames that are mapped as truncated 8.3 filenames on the MS server. Needless to say for backup purposes this defeats the object. I have scanned the archives but must be looking in the wrong places because I am unable to find a solution to this problem. Can anyone

smbpasswd -j joins wrong domain?
I am having a hell of a time getting a group of Samba servers working together as a domain. My desired setup is to have one Samba PDC (LION) in control of the ANIMALS domain and then have the other Samba file server (HYDRA) join ANIMALS. Simple enough. My smb.conf files are attached. I have added a HYDRA$ machine account to LION per the usual directions. I then follow the simple directions

Help with (hopefully) simple configuration problem
I have a (mostly) windows environment into which I am attempting to integrate a SAMBA based printer server (Solaris 2.5.1 SPARC). I'm running SAMBA 1.9.18p10. I need the print server to do two things: 1. Perform as local network browser/WINS server for the local subnet it is on (10.255.8.128/27) 2. Register itself and clients on it's subnet with the browsers/WINS servers/whatever

spauratic loss of machines.
Hello, I've got a samba/win98 problem. This occurs with samba 2.05a and slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and samba 2.06. I've got two machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd. All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that point no matter which

User profiles are not stored on server
Hello! I work at a school in Norway, and am experimenting with a Linux box as a server for our Win95 network. Most things seem to work like they should, except one important thing: The user profiles are _only_ stored on the local machine... I am running Internet Explorer 4.01 with the Users function enabled. The network setup is as follows: Samba box as WINS server. "Log on to Windows NT

Samba is screwed up
I have set up a Samba server (Version 3.0.10-1.fc2) on a Fedora 2 box, but it appears to always be allowing anonymous login now and when I try to log in with a valid user it keeps telling me the login failed. Can someone tell me why this is happening and also, why are authorized users not able to log in? Here's the content of my smbusers file: root = administrator admin apache = fred nobody
