Winbind scalability issue
In other people's environments or test situations, what kind of scalability do you see with winbind? How many aggressive users can be supported? Using: Suse SLES 8 for ibm iSeries Samba authentication with winbind against win2k active directory. at the moment, a 100 FD network connection 3 windows DC's to authenticate against. Samba w/Winbind HA cluster
We are planning to build an HA cluster of samba servers, using winbind to authenticate against an Active Directory domain. The problem I see with this, is that the Winbind uid mappings will not necessarily be the same on both nodes in the HA cluster. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the winbind uid and gid mappings to match on 2 separate servers? Alex Laslavic Havertys Tech

Print Server Degradation
Our Samba print server seems to slowly degrade, and get more and more errors over time, until it starts recieving "tdb fetch failed" messages, fatal errors, and getting INTERNAL PANIC's and dumping core etc.... I believe this to be related to .tdb corruption, but the tdbbackup utility does not see any problem with the TDB's. Eventually, certain printers will go

PDF viewer?
Hi, I'm looking for a usable PDF viewer with CentOS 4.3. On my previous install (Slack running XFCE with a handful of GNOME libs), I used Evince, which is just great. Looks like this is an Achilles' heel in CentOS, as I tested three available PDF viewers (ggv, gsview, acroread) with various PDF documents downloaded from the internet (which all display perfectly with Evince): either the

ACL Propagation problem
Using Samba 3.0.2a with acl support. My problem is as follows: When using the Windows ACL editor (security tab in folder properties) on a folder, if you set the check boxes for full control (or any combination or permissions) for a user, the Posix acl's are set for both the user, and the default user. This in itself is fine, because it causes newly created folders, and files to inherit

Duncan - Indeed, this has now been well documented; I have called these constructions "Schr?dinger Facts", since they arise from a superposition of truths in the training data that collapse into an untruth when observed. https://sentientsyllabus.substack.com/p/chatgpts-achilles-heel Now, the curious question is: why can it program. Why is its production of R-syntax less vulnerable

winbind authentication fails with STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW
Using samba-3.0.10-1.4E.2 as supplied by RedHat Enterprise 4. Using security=ADS mode, and using winbind and pam_winbind to authenticate. I was able to sucessfully join the domain, and can enumerate users and groups. Whenever I try to authenticate, it always fails with the status STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW. -------------------pieces of Winbind Logs--------------- [2006/01/26 13:08:55, 5]

undesireable lazy loading
Hi, My work with Rails has been fairly straightforward, until yesterday... I''ve encountered rather a peculiar problem that I''m not able to solve myself as a rails-newbie. The model code looks like this: class Link < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :user_vote end class UserVote < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :link end I have a SQL query that is

An interesting chat with ChatGPT
I was wondering which anchor would match in the regular expression "(a)|(b)" if both "a" and "b" matches the target string. What appears to happen is that the first match wins, and that's how it is documented in Python, but I was looking for docs on this in R. As far as I can see, the ?regex help page doesn't resolve this. So just for fun, I decided to

any updates w.r.t. lapply, sapply, apply retaining classes
Hi All, I don't have a "I need help" question, so much as a query into any update whether 'R' has made any progress with some of the core functions retaining classes. As an example, because it's one of the cases that most egregiously impacts me & my work and keeps pushing me away from 'R' and into other numerical languages (such as NumPy in python), I

Windows Read Only attribute, and Microsoft Excel.
I have recently started migrating a Win2k fileserver to a Samba 3.0.2a server. Running in full ADS mode, with winbind enabled for authentication against our Win2k PDC. I am also running as much of the ACL support as I can. The problem I am encountering involves excel documents. The documents are migrated from the Win2k server, to the Samba server, and are retaining all of the ACL's during

kernel oplocks in ctdb environment
Hi Can anyone advise me on "kernel oplocks" in a ctdb cluster. I have a ctdb (GPFS is the parallel file system) setup that uses samba (3.5.8) for cifs and IBM CNFS for NFS. Reading the documentation on kernel oplocks it seems to me that I can export the same area via samba and NFS with "kernel oplocks = Yes" . My logic is that IBM CNFS has shared NFS locking

locking limit errors with Peachtree
In the samba domain I admin, one of the computers runs the Peachtree accounting software. Today, McAfee antivirus was installed on that box (not my doing) and now Peachtree keeps giving "Locking table limit reached" errors. Is this an error from samba, Windows, or Peachtree? Is there a limit to the number of file locks samba can grant at one time? -- Andrew Gaffney Network

Rails Documentation is RoR''s achilles heel
Hi All Just a few minutes back I came across a post about autotest/zentest and that post reignited the feeling I get when I look at RDoc, RoR documentation. The main thing that is lacking in RoR and to some extent Ruby''s RDoc is showing method names in HTML is not documentation. The arguments to method, exception/errors raised by method, return value and a usage example completes the

peachtree issue
I have a Debian server running samba 2.2.3. We are running Peachtree 2002 (version 9) and we have issues with the data being on the server. First, during the install, Peachtree says that our server doesn't handle long file names. Obviously it does, but we have to install it by acting like the data is on the local machine and then changing the .ini file to point the data directory to the
