Hello Producers "Longevity of Support" is an attractive drawcard for CentOS if it means the exact opposite of Fedora's "short support cycle" that does not provide updating of infrastructural libraries for very long, libraries which newer versions of applications (like Firefox, Thunderbird, Opera etc) depend on and which wont install unless the libraries are also newer

Why does this rsync line not work?
I'm trying to update a bunch of downloaded files from a mounted older disk. This command works from the Kterm command line or in a script: rsync -nuv /mnt/kinda2/home/lba/dl/* /home/lba/dl and a list of the files to be updated appears on the screen. But this line (without a tailing * in source) does not work: rsync -nuv /mnt/kinda2/home/lba/dl/ /home/lba/dl and I get the

I downloaded the binary from samba.org, and executed the command like so: (The command belowis directly from the README.smb that comes with tcpdump-3.4a5.tar.gz) ./tcpdump -i eth0 port 139 host 192.168.0.1 tcpdump: parse error How do I use it to get the decoded smb output? mount_smbfs: can't get handle to requester (no /dev/nsmb* device)
Hi all ! I have a little problem here mounting or browsing samba shares. I have a FreeBSD 4.6.2 running samba, and a share on that called public. when I try to mount that share it asks for password, and then gives an error: ex. libra# mount_smbfs //maxi@samba/public /mnt Password: mount_smbfs: can't get handle to requester (no /dev/nsmb* device) libra# I can list the shares with

More mount_smbfs
Thanks to Will Saxon I'm finally able to mount Samba shares on my 5.1-R box using the command mount_smbfs -I 129.197.36.34 -W acct01 //bfosdick@129.197.36.34/net-11 /sp/net-11 which then prompts me for my password. So now the question is...how do I put this in /etc/fstab? What do I do about the password?

valid users and lost password on windows xp
Hi all, in my network we're using samba as a disk share for users. Each user can access users thru his unix login name and password, but sometimes I experience that Windows xp (prof.) loses the password, so it prompts the user again for the it. In particular, after a smbpasswd password change, I have one machine that, even if mounting the share as a network disk (with username and

Samba SSSD authentication via userPrincipalName does not work because samba claims that the username does not exist.
Dear all, i'm investigating the issue that I can't authenticate against a Samba (as Active-Directory Member) using the userPrincipalName (UPN). (Using Samba and sAMAccountName works fine.) After some research I'm quite sure that winbind is limited to the sAMAccountName and can't use UPN. So I deciced to use SSSD and configured the `ldap_user_name = userPrincipalName` in the

Cannot get LD_LIBRARY_PATH to work under NX (freenx)
Hello, I'm trying to get the LD_LIBRARY_PATH set from .bash_profile (Centos 5.3 fully updated). This is a part of my .bash_profile: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/home/szyman/omnet/omnetpp-2.3p1/lib export R_HISTSIZE=2000000000 Everything works fine under standard ssh login, but under NX client the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable is missing (the R_HISTSIZE is exported properly). Die, KDE! Die! (Sticking with Gnome and Yum Conflicts)
Okay, I experimented with both KDE and Gnome, and decided I'd rather use Gnome. After making this decision, I wanted to remove KDE, because I like to keep my hard drive as lean as possible. I accomplished this, or so I thought, by running: # yum groupremove "KDE (K Desktop Environment)". It seemed to work. Removed a whole bunch 'o stuff. Okay, but then I wanted to install k3B,
