Samba 3.0.0 can't join ADS domain
I'm installing Samba 3.0.0 on a RH9 system for the
first time. I've gone through the doc and I believe
that I've done everything correctly, but when I try to
issue a "net ads join -U myuserid" command, I get no
response. No errors, just nothing. When I do a klist
I can see the credentials for "myuserid" but nothing
else. If I do a "net rpc join -U

'net ads join' Segmentation fault for one ADS tree but not another?!
The cmd 'net ads join -U username' dies with 'Segmentation fault' for
our PROD ADS environment, however works fine in our DEV ADS environment!
The only [Linux] configuration change between the two environments is
update SAMBA and Kerberos config to read 'ADS' vs 'ADSDEV' and change
the domain controller FQDN.
The /var/kerberos/krb5kdc directory, samba/secrets.tdb

net ads join fails on W2K3 server with latest MS patches
Hi All,
For the past few months I've been running a SUSE 9.2 server here
(mostly as an app server) which was a member of an AD domain
(w2k3 domain controller.) I used winbind to enable domain members
to log into the box, all was well.
This week the w2k3 server had some MS security patches applied
and suddenly logins became impossible, because winbind was unable
to retrieve user info from the

samba net ads join windows active directory with ldap ssl
Hi,
Any one any suggestion how to make this work.
This issue is reported in ubuntu bug 1576799
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1576799?comments=all>
earlier
But the solution suggested of replacing ldap ssl ads = Yes to ldap server
require strong auth = Yes leaves communication in plain format.

Hi,
I have modified my /etc/ldap/ldap.conf
cat /etc/ldap/ldap.conf
#TLS_REQCERT HARD
TLS_REQCERT ALLOW
TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/msadmaster.pem
After above changes net ads is succesfull with ssl/tls
I have verified at Windows AD DC end that TLS is being used for
communication with the help of wireshark.
Though i am not sure what is impact of changing TLS_REQCERT to ALLOW from

error: net ads join - Debian AMD64 sarge
Can anybody from our experts help please?
I had some trouble with joining a Win2003SP1 (SFU Schema is also
installed) domain in ADS mode - config files and error logs are listed
at the end.
the goal is:
-joining a Win2003SP1 domain (with SFU Schema) in ADS-mode
-authenticate with winbind / PADL against this ads-dc (also offline for
notebooks with padl cache plugin)
It would be great, if

Minimum User Rights For "net ads join"
I have seen a number of cases where unix/linux administrators do not
have access to Windows Administrator rights to execute "net ads join".
Here is the result of testing that I have done to determine what the
minimum set of user rights is.
Case 1: Adding the object to the domain and joining the domain with

In this case, an ordinary user "member of

Join to AD does not persist reboot, requires "net ads join"
Hi,
I'm using samba 3.6.3 on ubuntu 12.04. I'm using samba and winbind so
that I can authenticate users via ntml_auth.
After configuring my smb.conf I join to the domain:
net ads join -U Administrator
And everything works fine, calls to ntlm_auth work as expected.
However, upon rebooting the server, I can't successfully use ntlm_auth
as "no logon servers are

net ads join fails when specifying domain controller
I am seeing in some folks Active Directory environments where specifying
a domain controller with the net ads join command fails. It will work
when not specifying a domain controller. For instance:
net -k ads join FOO.COM -S DC.FOO.COM # fails
net -k ads join FOO.COM # works
The fail message is:

Samba4: net ads join fails: Host is not configured as a member server.
Hi everyone
I'm trying to join an Ubuntu 12.04 client to a 12.04 Samba4 DC. xp and
win7 clients can join fine.
Here is my minmal smb.conf
realm = POLOP.SITE
workgroup = POLOP
security = ADS
Kerberos is working:
kinit Administrator
Password for Administrator at POLOP.SITE:
But then it tell me that the DC is _not_ a DC:
net ads join -UAdministrator
Host is not configured as a member server.
