Having read a few posts recently I thought I would do some testing. Given XP's use of 445 and that I have a couple of networks where they only have XP clients, I thought I would try setting smb ports to 445 only rather than that suggested of just specifying 139. This has worked well for XP clients with SP2. However SP1, and presumably pre-SP1 clients, lose all sight of the NBT network.

I've just been trying to get my Samba 3.0.0-2 build to work with CUPS. The rpm I downloaded from the Samba site was not compiled with CUPS library support. Which is why I am assuming that having added printing = cups in my conf file things are not working. If I use the source rpm can I force the build to include CUPS library support ? Or do I have to build from scratch? thanks Alan

I want to plot many points and want to use circles. The filling color depends on variable a. if a=1, then not fill if a=2 then fill with red, if a=3 then fill with blue, if a=4, fill half with red and half with blue. Can anyone tell me how to plot the case "a=4"? Thanks a lot

I've just found out today that my system won't let users (2000 and XP clients) change their passwords. >From their consoles they get permission denied messages. This might be a stupid question, but I ask only because I can't think of a good reason... Why do so many vendors' builds of Samba not include libnss_wins, the WINS/NetBIOS name resolution library? I find that it is very helpful for my Linux/Samba servers to be able to resolve hostnames by WINS. It also seems to improve domain browsing performance dramatically to have the library present

I just started at a new company and they do not have a server at all I want to put a samba server in place but I need to make sure that in the future I could add a windows server if we buy software that requires it.
