Speed issue
Hi all,
I am trying to migrate a NetWare file server to samba (on Red Hat 9).
My problem is that unfortunatelly samba is somehow painfully slow, when we run DOS programs from it on the client machines.
The NetWare server is an ancient machine. P1, probably.
The Samba server is P4 3G, 1G RAM, RAID mirroring, etc.
We are running and old DOS program on the client machines, and when it's

weird home share problem
Hi list
During my samba3 pdc ldap backend set up I encountered a new problem. I
configured in smb.conf the mounting of the home share as followed:
logon path = # I don't want roaming profiles
logon drive = H:
logon home = \\homeserver\%u
logon script = logon.bat
[homes]
comment = Home dirs
valid users = %S
read only = No
browseable = No

rc.d/sysctl fails to parse sysctl.conf
Hello,
I tried to get my sound working, and long story short: rc.d/sysctl parses
sysctl.conf wrongly if there are sysctls of the form
mib=val1=val2
which is what you need for sound. For reference I needed/wanted
dev.hdaa.4.nid25_config=as=1,seq=15
dev.hdaa.4.nid31_config=as=1
I believe the following patch would address the incorrect parsing:

Printing seems to be entirely broken
Here's the problem: clients that already have a Windows machine with the
printer installed (through Samba, several months ago) can print just fine.
However, any client trying to add, view, or do anything with a printer
*now* always receive a message stating "Access is denied."
When I double-click on the printer to add: "Could not connect to the
printer. Access is denied."

Samba 4 Cleanup Managing and Otherwise
OK, there has got to be a way to work with this thing other than
wiping the Domain every time an error pops up.
Trying to resolve problems I did a git upgrade and:
setup# /usr/local/samba/sbin/upgradeprovision
Which provided the unhelpful:
Found 3 domain controllers, for the moment upgradeprovision is not
able to handle upgrade on domain with more than one DC, please demote

Can I remove lib-elf.so.1?
I am cleaning up my 4-STABLE system. After a fresh installworld, I am
looking at files that did not get touched by the install. Is it safe to
remove all such files?
In particular, I am looking at /usr/libexec/lib-elf.so.1, which has the
schg flag set. I am afraid to remove this for fear of making my system
unbootable. Could somebody please reassure me that it is ok to noschg
and remove this old

Getting Samba 3 to communicate with Win2k3 ADS
I'm having a *terrible* time trying to get Samba 3 to communicate with my
Windows 2003 Active Directory Server (the primary and only domain on my
network). Basically this is what I'm trying to do: create a Linux File
Server to replace my old WinNT 4 File Server. I would like it to show up
under all my XP clients on network neighborhood just like the old server,
with each account on my

Fw: failed tcon_X with NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
I don't know if this got posted.
Sorry for the double.
Basically I have 4 Win AD servers I'm trying to use for password servers.
I can net join others but not this one.
All AD servers are identical and I have a computer account on all 4.
What does this error mean?
Thank u !
I'm also getting intermittent “password server not available” and users can't connect at random.

smbclient lookup fails when querying local machine
Debian Sarge, Samba 2.2.12 (legacy install), openLDAP 2.2.17, connecting to a PDC running Samba 2.2.8a. The machine in question failed DIAGNOSIS.txt step 3.
I've got a really odd issue -- a Samba server that can "smbclient -L" everyone but itself. Samba still serves shares and PDC authentication works fine, but this failure is annoying, and as such, must be fixed. :)

Recently joined 2k3, shut down primary, seized roles, now have slight dns (maybe) problem.
Hello All,
As per the subject, we have recently joined a w2k3 domain folowing
instructions on wiki as well as well as relying on valuble information on
the list. The steps we took were the following:
Join samba as secondary
Created dns records by hand (ldbsearch, samba-tool dns add)
Checked replication
Copied sysvol
Transferred some roles from windows
Transferred some roles from samba (fsmo

samba AD not working
Hello,
After classic upgrade from PDC to AD, most things look like they're
functioning but I'm having issues. Note that the upgrade did include a
system change, a new name, new IP address.
Using samba-4.6.5 compiled from git on Debian Stretch.
First issue I noticed was when trying to join the new AD from a
Windows machine I received:

mapping multiple groups with: net groupmap?
Sorry if this is obvious but I'm not up to speed yet
with Samba 3.
Google turned up this command:
net groupmap modify ntgroups="Domain users" unixgroup=users
which would be all fine and dandy if everybody was in the
same primary group, which they are not, since it completely defeats
the purpose of having groups in the first place.
On my system we currently have 87 groups (one

having problems with samba 3.0 with net groupmap access ldap
Hi
I thought I finally had this PDC pu and runing but I don?t. Samba is working fine ?cos I can see the shares from other machines
(I?m yet to join them to the domain). I have a mandrake 9.2 and using samba 3.0 and ldap 2.1.22 as backend and not able to
join machines to the domain so I used ldapsearch and net groupmap to see what?s up with the ldap server and it came up with the

The man page describes options --chown, --usermap, and --groupmap, but
these seem to be silently ignored beyond validating that the user and
