RID to SID Bug? Share ACL Access Denied
Hello, I have been trying to work through an Access Denied problem and have found that the user rid is not getting mapped properly. I have yet to figure out where the assigned rid is coming from, but I know is that is incorrect. In the log (level 10) for the connecting computer, I see: "pdb_set_user_sid_from_rid: setting user sid S-1-5-21-74637098-2648309090-13861XXXXX-21006 from rid

Samba PDC Server Local SID, Domain SID, and GROUP RID Question
Hi, I have a question regarding an issue I am having with our new Samba PDC. We used to be running an NT domain controller and about two months ago, I made the transition to a Debian linux box running Samba. The PDC is currently running Samba 3.0.8. My samba PDC is using the tdbsam backend and, for the most part is working flawlessly. However, when using smbpasswd to add samba accounts, I

Winbind rid + SID History creating duplicate per-user groups
Since upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 (Samba 3.6.3) to Ubuntu 14.04 (Samba 4.1.6), I've noticed some strange problems with our group mappings: First, each of our Active Directory users now has a corresponding group in Linux. I don't remember ever noticing this in Ubuntu 12.04 / Samba 3.6.3. Is this feature new? Is it documented anywhere? (I tried searching online and couldn't find

pdbedit and root SID/RID
Hi I've been reading every documentation available for creating smb domain groups and users, mapping domain groups and users... still learning... Every document I read states that root should be modified to RID 500, by running ' pdbedit -U `net getlocalsid | cut -d ":" -f2 | tr -d ' '`-500 -u root -r', but I always get root to RID 1000 and its domain group RID

importance of sid and rid?
Hi, I would like to know, what's the importance of sid and rid, for: 1) a win2k to samba migration, with roaming profiles 2) brand new domain on samba, with roaming profiles If rid and sid need to be migrated to a samba+ldap how do I do it? Another thing is, I've read in ldap-smb-HEAD-howto.html that the builtin accounts are implemented internally in the samba server. Does this mean I

Samba SID/RID, UID/GID Best Practices?
I have a new Samba 3 domain backed by LDAP. I am using Fedora-DS for LDAP component, so I have relied on a blend of tools to get up and running including Fedora-DS console and phpLDAPAdmin and (momentarily!) sambaldap-tools. I am generally following the great IDEALX How-To but having to adapt it somewhat. Standards for well-know Samba groups like "Domain Admins" were easy to

Could not peek rid out of sid
New samba deployment; samba 3.0.24 w/ldapsam, em64t (Dell 2900), CentOS 4.4, using nss_ldap with LDAP master and two slaves (OpenLDAP 2.3.32), one Samba PDC (on LDAP master) and two Samba BDC's (on each of the LDAP slaves); no Windows servers; one Linux domain member server (first of several). All four Samba servers use the same LDAP parameters. testparm checks out. All accounts are in

Problem with RID,SID and usrmgr
Hello, First of all, I would like to say that this is my third attempt to make Samba working as PDC. On the very beginning I had a problem with machine account, but after group mapping and cleaning group maps, I was able to add it from command line - using smbpasswd (according to this point, I would like to ask: "machine" unix group is only allowed for machines? Am I not able to

'Could not peek rid out of sid' error 3.0.25c
Hi, All of a sudden, my samba logs are filling up with errors like: Could not peek rid out of sid S-1-5-21-3203556629-3307610231-1688239997-3018 Now it appears that I'm no longer authenticating because I cannot get to private-by-user directories. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks. -- James

idmap_rid problem - winbindd_sid_to_uid: Could not get uid for sid
In a ADS(Adv Serv 2003) setup with a few linux members, I'd like to achieve consistent UIDs for domain users across these linux machines, and idmap_rid seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. However, I cannot get winbind to create uids or gids from SIDs at all. Any hints? --Erik S. Johansen ares samba # smbd -V Version 3.0.10 ares samba # pwd /var/cache/samba ares samba # rm *.tdb

winbind / sid problem.
Hello all, I have a strange problem that I'd like advice on. Here I run several samba servers as home directory and print servers for an NT 4.0 (sp6a) domain. The domains relevant to this problem are CANNING and STUDENT. The STUDENT domain trusts users in the CANNING domain. My samba server is RedHat 6.2 (+ updates) running samba 2.2.7 (built today). I upgraded because of a different

Samba-2.2.8a & LDAP - Can't join Domain - SID mapping error
Hi everyone, I am at my wits end and am hoping one of you can help me out. I am getting the following error when attempting to join Windows XP/2000 machine to the domain: "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "MY_DOMAIN" No mapping between account names and security IDs was done. smbpasswd and RID/SID problems with LDAP
Problem number one: ------------------- I'm running a few-hours-old CVS version of Samba 3.0 with LDAP as the authentication backend, and I'm having some problems trying to set up the LDAP accounts using "smbpasswd". I build the structure of the LDAP database by importing a couple of LDIF's, and then I import the following user account to create an administrative account

Active directory and winbind RID/SID to uid and gid maping across several linux servers
We are using a windows server 2003 active directory as our single sign on server. I have been able to get our RHEL4U6 servers to authenticate with active directory. My concern is that the RID mapping to unix uid/gid range (15000-20000) is stored locally on each machine in a tdb database. So far all of the servers have produced the same mapping, but I do not think it is guarantied. I think the

SID problems?
I?ve upgraded from Samba 2 to version 3, and am having some problems. I think they?re related to SIDs, which I?ve not really been aware of before! Currently I only have the Samba server which is acting as PDC for Win XP Pro machines. My smb.conf looks like: ------------------------------------------- [global] netbios name = scofp1 workgroup = SCODOMAIN server string = Samba
