Inverse Prediction with splines
Hello, I have fit a simple spline model to the following data.
Data
x y
0 1.298
2 0.605
3 0.507
4 0.399
5 0.281
6 0.203
7 0.150
8 0.101
Model
Sp.1=lm(y~bs(x,df=4))
Now I wish to inverse predict the x for y=.75, say. Optimize works fine
for a polynomial but I can figure out how to get the spline model into
the function argument.
Can anyone help me out.
Thanks!!

samba.org Solaris binary is incompatible with Mac OS 10.2.x as client
More precisely what I've discovered is, at least in the cases of 2.2.8a
and 3.0alpha22, when a 64-bit Samba is built with Sun's Forte compiler
you'll end up with something incompatible with Mac OS 10.2.3.
I always compile Samba myself with Sun's compiler to produce a 64-bit
Samba. Well yesterday it came to my attention that Mac OS 10.2.x doesn't
work with whats on my main

Many "Error: Corrupted index cache file /XXX/dovecot.index.cache: invalid record size"
Hi all,
I just joigned this list, so I'm sorry if this problem has already been
reported.
I'm running Dovecot 2.0.13 on many servers, one for POP/IMAP access,
others for LDA, others for authentification only, etc.
All servers are accessing a shared file system, based on MooseFS
(www.moosefs.org). The FS is mounted using FUSE.
All my Dovecot servers have this configuration :

Re: Redhat 7: cgroup CPUACCT controller is not mounted
Thanks Martin to confirm that the issue is due to privilege access. How can I run a domain as non-root and be able to access the cpu information?

Configure SSL problem
Hi everyone
I have been trying to get Dovecot installed with OpenSSL support, but no
matter what I do,
when I run Configure, it says "Building with SSL support.........No".
I have even tried configure --with-ssl=openssl, to no avail.
I have built and installed OpenSSL, and libssl.so and libcrypto.so are in
the /lib directory -
what more does Dovecot want? I have tried figuring it out

ssh-rand-helper probs
Hi all
Am i doing this right? Is this the right list to post to? If not, a
quick lesson in ettiquette for me would not hurt. As I am both just
starting to use newsgroups and SSH, I am not entirely familiar with the
processes. I have a question about ssh-rand-helper. First an outline: I
am currently using the SSH packages for Solaris 2.8 available at
sunfreeware.com. The environment is

Problem with Sol8 and LDAP
Hi, i am experiencing a problem with ssh 3.0.2.p1 running on Solaris 2.8.
Everything works fine with local users (i.e. with local passwd and shadow
entries). With LDAP authenticated users, i obtain:
treno at tao[!] -> ssh -v
Segmentation Fault (core dumped)
The probem is the same with 2.x releases.
Thank you,

[LLVMdev] updated code size comparison
[cross-posting to the GCC and LLVM lists]
I've updated the code size results here:
http://embed.cs.utah.edu/embarrassing/dec_09/
The changes for this run were:
- delete a number of testcases that contained use of uninitialized local
variables
- turn off frame pointer emission for all compilers
- ask all compilers to target x86 + SSE3
- ask all compilers to not emit stack protector

sshd can't change expired password on Sol8 with Openssh3.0p1 + PAM
The reason I ask about the patches is because I think the problem you're
seeing might actually be a bug in pam_unix.so.1 - it's something to try at
least. We don't use password aging and we don't use the "passwd" command
to change passwords, so we haven't run into this at our site even though
we probably don't have pam_unix.so patched up. Also, the passwd
