smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi, I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very clear about smbmnt though! I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300 to 400Kb each. I understand that Samba is capable of doing

How to automate SMBMNT
Hi there, How do I automate smbmnt so that when logging on, it mounts the required shared directories on an NT4.0 file system using the user name and password I used t gain access to the GUI ? I s this possible. I am currently running Network Neighborhood and have been using this application for access but this requires that I scan mount and log-on again before gaining access to that share.

fstab based shared user mounts not possible
Hi! I first reported this issue as http://bugs.gentoo.org/136272 Mounting windows shares as a normal user causes quite a lot of trouble for me, using samba 3.0.22. I have this entry in my /etc/fstab: > //workstation/share /mnt/mountpoint smbfs \ > user,noauto,username=un,password=pwd,uid=un,gid=users,\ > fmask=660,dmask=770,codepage=850 0 0 With a root owned mount point I

smbmnt and disabling mtab update
Hi, I'm trying to run smbmount on a machine with the root filesystem mounted as read only (it is a little embedded Linux PC which I want to pick up some files from its controlling NT box). The problem is that smbmnt doesn't appear to support the -n flag that normal mount supports which avoids accessing /etc/mtab. Can any one suggest any solutions to this ? Dave

smbmnt and friends
Dear all 1) Could you happen to know why smbmnt, smbmount and smbumount are not compiled whem I rum "make" from the source directory? I found (for example) bin/testparms in the PROGS1 Makefile variable but no reference to those little fellows. 2) How do I change the config directory to be /etc instead of /usr/local/samba/lib? I tryed "./configure --sysconfdir=/etc" and it

Can't mount share on my linux boxes as a regular user. I have no trouble mounting shares as root. This problem occurs on both my linux boxes. All the commands I show I have run as a regular user. Here is all the data I have: smbmount \\\\JHAMMER6\\public /mnt/NetWork/JHAMMER6/public/ -o debug=6 mount.smbfs started (version 2.0.7) Initialising global parameters params.c:pm_process() -

smbclient v3.5. user mounts: setuid -> fstab
This is pretty much a response to http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2009-September/067058.html except not on samba-technical. Hi, Well 3.5 has already been released, and since I was attached to the previous behavior allowing setuid mounts on directories owned by calling users (without sudo) I thought I'd throw in my voice. Though autofs, smbnetfs and the like are interesting,

how to mount shares as a user without mount.cifs setuid
I'm running Debian/Squeeze on an AMD64 system. For some reason they have recently stopped shipping mount.cifs with the setuid bit set. Now it appears that they have changed the internal settings to prevent it from running setuid. This means that I can't define the share in fstab with "user" and connect from my Linux user account. Mounting smb/cifs shares seems to be blocked

ChrootDirectory %h
Hi, many people are having problems using SFTP with ChrootDirectory when the jail directory (or the path above) is not owned by root. The question is if chroot'ing to usual home directories can be allowed, even though they are owned by regular users. I know that this topic has been discussed on the list several times now, so I searched the list archives for posts that invalidate the

user-mounts
Hi I have little problem on doing "user-mounts". There is a line in fstab "//server/share /mnt/server smbfs user,...." The problem is that smbmnt wants the mountpoints to be owned by the user doing the mount. Other devices can be mounted when the mountpint just has the group of a user. I can circumvent this by using sudo. Is there a solution to establish a fstab entry
