Puppet Not Running chkconfig correctly.
So, I noticed that when adding a service to puppet, puppet is running
a chkconfig <service>. However, as far as I can tell, puppet should be
running a chkconfig --add <service>, otherwise the symlinks don''t get
created from the service in /etc/rc.d/rc6.d back to the service in
/etc/init.d. As as a result, the service is not stopped on shut down.
I must be missing something

Samba Newbie
I'm in the process of beginning to set up Samba with the aid of the book
Special Edition Using Samba. The problem that I have is that I cannot
get the service to run.
I am using Red Hat 7.2 - kernel 2.4.9-13.
I modified the smb.conf file and get the following when running the
"testparm" command:
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
Processing section "[homes]"

Shutdown script not being run
I've got an odd problem. My server will not shutdown normally because
the AoE driver is not being shut down properly. While investigating the
problem, I found that the aoe script is apparently not being called for
shutdown. I have been able to duplicate this with a brand new test
script.
My test script is just a simple file that echos back the start or stop
command:
#!/bin/bash

SysV install problem in FC4
After a fresh install, I noticed that shorewall 2.4.0 wasn''t starting
automatically under FC4. The startup script installs properly from the
rpm:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/shorewall
... but the post install "/sbin/chkconfig --add shorewall" produces
this in the runlevel symlink directories:
/etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S-1shorewall
/etc/rc.d/rc0.d/K-1shorewall
/etc/rc.d/rc6.d/K-1shorewall

another iscsi question
I have an iscsi array that I'd like to mount and share using NFS and I
need it to happen without user intervention on a reboot. In the default
configuration this doesn't seem to work very well because the iscsi
intiator isn't started until after the network is up (obviously) and by
that time all local filesystems are mounted. I can't mount the
partitions in rc.local because NFS

Using a program
OS: CentOS 5 x86.
There is a program I am using which requires a start up service running.
The service runs in Runlevels 3,4,5. When I am using the program as a
root it works fine. When I am using it as a user it produces an error.
If I do as a root, /etc/init.d/program start, then I can use it as a
simple user. I have emailed the company that makes it and had no
response. Any idea on how

# chkconfig: kill at run level 3
In the control script of my daemon in /etc/init.d?, I have
# chkconfig: 35 97 3
The result of this is that I have links:
/etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K03...
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S97...
/etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S97...
As mentioned in a previous thread, my complex daemon throws
an exception when I shutdown. Perhaps things might be better
if I had:
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/K03...
Might this be a good idea? If so,

Assistance with startup script
Could someone give me some assistance in getting this startup script to
conform to chkconfig and such where the service will start up after
networking comes up, and then shut down when networking goes away?
Where all do entries need to be made, and what would they consist of?
Many thanks.....
Sam

Logon script, help please
Hi,
I'm having trouble getting a logon script to work...
I have created a DOS batch file (timesync.bat) and placed it in the scripts
directory of the server.
The file contains only one line - net time \\ptlserver /SET /y
My smb.conf "Globals" section is:-
[global]
workgroup = PTLTRAIN
netbios name = PTLSERVER
server string = Llandrindod Trainee Server
encrypt passwords = Yes

setting up swat
I've looked in /usr/local/samba/swat for help
and even the samba source docs and can't
find anything on setting up swat.
I've also looked at samba.org/samba/docs,
but can find a swat setup doc.
Can some please point me in the right direction?
thanks,

HAL Problems
Hi,
since the last few days my system crashs at startup of gdm (on system boot).
If I choose runlevel 2, the system doesn't crash. I found out, that HAL is
the problem. After disabling hal (chkconfig haldaemon --off) no crashes
appear.
The system freezes completly so I can't look into the logfiles.
I removed an reinstalled hal already, but nothing changed.
I tried older kernels

starting/stopping services
In an earlier thread it was mentioned I could use postfix stop to stop
postfix. I'm trying to get sshd started and starting on boot. I did
chkconfig sshd on and that worked fine, but then tried sshd start, but that
didn't work. It looks like I need to do service sshd start (I did just
that and it is now started). Why the difference?
Thanks,

X-Windows Login
I have a server with all the x-windows stuff installed. But it's
giving me a text based login prompt on the console.
I can log onto the console, and run
gnome-session
and GNOME comes up fine. How do I turn it on so that I get a X-Window
GUI login prompt?
