CUPS setup with 3.0.3pre1
Hello, I am currently trying to setup Samba 3.0.3pre1 to share my freshly installed LaserJet. I have NOT had any printer until now, so I can't tell you if the behavior was different before 3.0.3pre1. The problem: My smb.conf contains: > [global] > ## Printing > load printers = yes > printcap name = cups > printing = cups > [printers] > comment

3.0.3pre1 byte range lock leak?
I'm having a problem involving Outlook and .pst files and a lock that is getting "stuck" I believe. Once Outlook crashes in the fashion it does, it is unable to reopen the file, claiming it is already in use. Explorer also does not let me access the file. Rebooting the workstation does not fix it. smbstatus does not show the lock, however hwen I show byte range locks, there is one,

WHATSNEW-3.0.3pre1
Found interesting info on http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/pre/WHATSNEW-3.0.3pre1.txt Gerald (Jerry) Carter <jerry@samba.org> * Fixed iterator in tdbsam. * Fix bug that disabled accounts with a valid NT password hash, but no LanMan hash. Is this means we can have only sambaNTPassword without having sambaLMPassword attribute? it was allowed by the schema anyway. --beast

Automatic Windows Patch Deployment (OS Agnostic)
A month ago I mentioned on this list work on a automated package deployment tool for Windows systems, which is server agnostic. At the time, I didn't have the time to put it up in a place for public consumption. I do now. The utility is named wpkg (punny isn't it?) It's nothing more than a simple .js (jscript) file which needs to be run on Windows, from a directory containing three

PDC and concurrent logins
Hello! I am using samba running as a PDC at our school. I have read many docs and howtos but I can't find anything about Concurrent logins. I would be a nice feature becouse I don't want my users to login more than one time. Is there anyone that does have a clue? WPKG
Just wondering if anybody out there actually downloaded and got my Wpkg utility working. I'd like to hear what people think about it. Not having a progect page for it and all doesn't make that easy. Hmm. Maybe i'll set up a sourceforge page. Anyways, anybody using it? (for those not aware, it's a utility to automatically install software on windows computers, without any specific

Dfs - Load Balancing
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with using the Dfs functionality within Samba. I've been searching for any performance information and or documentation regarding Dfs in particular load balancing i.e. 1) How does it load balance? Is it some sort of round robin? 2) Is there a limit to the number of servers that can used in the load balance? 3) How many requests per

Perhaps GCC knows about its own builtin functions and the prototypes for them so that if you declare a similar function with the wrong prototype

Asterisk and SER - choppy sound with G.729
Hi, We are using Asterisk running on FreeBSD, as IVR / Voicemail for SER. We have redirected certain calls from SER to *. On * there is some 'testing' extension. It's simply playing some demo now ;-) As long as I use plain G.711 the sound is nice. When I switch to G.729 the sound is choppy, not recognizable. What is going on? Debug shows everything is normal.. I understand that all

Quality Suffers on Outgoing Only
Hi all, It appears that something very strange is going on... Here's the deal -- whether someone calls in to my * server or I call out (doesn't matter), I can hear them perfectly: no gaps, no packet loss, nothing ... however, when I speak there seems to be very noticable latency and "choppiness" as if there were packetloss or lots of jitter. I'm using SIP for outgoing

ACD Functionality
I have a couple of real quick questions for ya'll. I am trying to setup * in a test scenario to emulate my company's 20 agent ACD. 1) First, I am curious if anyone has any configs that they can throw up on the wiki or just send via e-mail. I have a bit of it pieced together and am able to make some very basic queued calls, but I am sure that there are much smarter people out there

ldap passwd sync
Having a bit of trouble understanding, or getting, "ldap passwd sync" working. I assume, setting it to Yes, would make it issue a change password command to the ldap server, just like pam does, ldappasswd does, or any other ldap program. Right? Samba Success Story
I'd like to thank the Samba team for making our switch off of Active Directory amazingly smooth. We're a small company, only 30 desktops, but things went great for us. Actually, nobody even notices the Windows DC is even gone! The Exchange migration that went along with this wasn't as hassle free though. =( It's really refreshing to be able to SSH into our file server and see
