pam_winbind and SuSE 9.0
Hello List,
has anybody got pam_winbind get to work under SuSE 9.0?
I try to set up a pam.d file to enable users auth'd against winbind to
access my mail server. I am testing with console login or ssd files at
the moment. I found some docs at samba.org (esp the winbind section),
but that didn#t work.
I used to manage with older versions, but i can't figure out what went

winbind, pam_stack and debian
Hey all
Im trying to get a samba pc reading passwords off a windows pdc for
authorising user shares.
The howtos all say to use pam_stack.so for this however it does not
exist in debian (its a redhat thing).
is there a workaround for this?
Thanks!

Samba and Winbind
Hello eveyone,
Thanks in advance, for what every help you can provide me :)
I'm trying to get Winbind to work at home, but I seem to be getting nowhere
awfully fast. Here's my situation.
I have a server (Redhat 9.0) called Mail... which acts as SAMBA PDC,
NIS/NFS, MAIL, DNS and DHCP server. In addition, I have two other servers
setup. 1 is an Windows 2000 standalone server, that

SUSE 9.3 Winbind+ PAM+AD
Hello,
I have been using Fedora Core, Samba, and Active Directory to provide
authentication services for Windows based users for a few years now, but as
an experiment I wanted to accomplish the same service with SUSE 9.3 .
I have been able to get this configuration to run successfully with RH9,
FC1, FC2, FC3, and FC4 (buggy but works), but with SUSE I have stalled a
bit. I feel I have

Winbind problem - "id: cannot find name for group ID"
I've configured pam to use winbind for login authentication ... the
problem is that when I login with my domain user I get "id: cannot find
name for group ID 10004" ... 10004 should be "Domain Users" ... and when I
do getent groups|grep 10004 I can see this group... although when I do
getent group 10004 it returns nothing. Also, when home directories are

Winbind & Wrong Password - PAM Issue?
Good Morning,
I have been a user of winbind and Samba for about a year now. It's been
working well for me on Red Hat v. 8.0 and 9.0.
Recently I purchased and installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 3.0 and
configured winbind and samba the same way I normally do. However when I
attempt to authenticate to the Linux workstation before I am even prompted
to enter my password, winbind submits a

authenticate using pam_ldap.so
Hi All,
I've been trying for quite some time now, but feel that there's just
that one situation that doesn't work, and that's probably the one
thing I'd like to use.
I've got a simple samba server (3.0.23c) on RHEL5 that only has one
large share. That share is to be used by a certain number of users,
that can exchange large amounts of data using that share, but not

Authenticate Linux Session with NT Domain Acct.
Despite configuring winbind and my /etc/pam.d/<files>, I am still unable
to actually log into a Linux session (ie, at the gdm login screen or

Samba 3.0.4-Suse-Package with Suse 9.0
Hello,
at a client's site I have to use Suse Linux 9.0 Pro for specific
kernel-modules Suse Linux 9.1 does not provide anymore.
To get the server up-to-date I took the Samba-rpms from sernet.de and
ran a successful "rpm -Uvh".
For an application it is necessary to print via the smb-backend of
CUPS, I have to get a queue pointing at a printer located at a Win-PC.

Winbind not quite working yet
Hello,
I'm trying to get Winbind to authenticate users that don't have local
accounts on a SAMBA BDC.
I have (3) BDCs (1) PDC running OpenLDAP 2.1.23 pass backend and Samba
3.0. These are on RedHat 8.0 systems. 3 BDC are also slave LDAP and 1
master directory server on the PDC.
I went through the Samba documentation CH21 and made modifications to
the BDCs and PDC as follows:

Winbind & ssh
Hi All,
I've got winbind happening and can telnet into the box using my NT
account (have manually made home directory) and it works a treat.
When I try to ssh in I get access denied.
As you can see from the log winbind is granting access but it seems that
sshd is blocking access before winbind can get to it? That's a guess of
course.
Any ideas?
