Creating Shares from Windows Management Console
All, I have what I hope is a small problem.... Here at RIT, we are testing using Samba 3.x hooked into windows AD for filesharing between Windows and Apple fileshares. The way we are set up is in a OU structure where there is really no one domain admin. We are split up into multiple OU's and each OU has an administrator. What we are trying to do is to get what I call an

Samba and Active Directory Permissions RESOLUTION
All, Thanks for the responses. There were two things I had to do to get this to work. The first thing was I had to change the readonly attribute in the smb.conf to NO. I also noticed that there was an error in my /etc/fstab so that the options were not read in for some reason. Once I fixed this and re-mounted the filesystem with the ACL option, I was able to do what I needed to do. Thanks

Samba & Outlook Express
Hi to all. I'm making a samba PDC and I want that accounts and the mails that every user have in Outlook Express will be saved on the server, so that in every computer in the domain the user can have his mails... How to make it? Probably it's not the correct place in which make the question but maybe someone know the answer! Thanks to all

samba not printing queue
Hi folks- I'm having a problem with Samba printing from Windows to Solaris printers, running samba 2.2.8a. At the moment, when windows jobs sent to samba, samba is copying them to /var/spool/samba, but not starting printing. This worked fine until yesterday, and nothing in Samba has been touched (at least, not to my knowledge). We use SystemV printing, which works on the unix side-I can go

Samba and Active Directory Permissions
All, I am currently running Samba 3.0.2a on a RHEL3 server. I would like to use the extended file systems permissions through windows, but I haven't had much luck. Here is how I am set up.... My linux box is joined to my AD domain and appears to be functioning correctly. I also have winbind set up, and functioning, although I still have some tweaking to do, it is assigning user and

I'm trying to wedge an input filter in front of ices (latest nightly from 5/5), and if I'm using the 'stdinpcm' input module, ices segfaults on me after a few seconds. I'm running on FreeBSD-4.8. Here's the relevant section of my config file: <input> <module>stdinpcm</module> <param

getting files and ACLs from a fileshare in Python
Hi, I am weighing Python for an application which needs to connect to a fileshare, to index the documents and also to retrieve the ACLs. Is there an equivalent of the Java libjcifs in Python? Given that the application will be running on Windows, what is the best way to use the win32 API from Python? If the application is running on Linux, I might be better off simply mounting the share. speex support in icecast
Has anyone looked at added Speex support to icecast2 and ices? I'm not quite sure where to start adding support and don't want to duplicate it if someone else has. --Joe -- Joe Sunday <sunday@csh.rit.edu> http://www.csh.rit.edu/~sunday/ Computer Science House, Rochester Inst. connection problem to fileshare for a certain user
sambalog.txt <http://samba.2283325.n4.nabble.com/file/n4699851/sambalog.txt> Hi, I use samba for a long time, and didn't touch the config since. A while ago i did a debian update to jessie, because i was way behind with updates on wheezy. Samba got probably also a big jump in version. Since then i have connection problems for my default user that connects to the samba server shares.

slow to drill into directories
I have a samba server configured at a clients office and sometimes when he is drilling down into directories in his "File Explorer" it stalls. I tail'ed the log files and I ran tcpdump, but I can't see anything that stands out. What should I look at? I am running Samba Version 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian. brian -- Brian Lavender http://www.brie.com/brian/

Fileshare - how to enable Modify permission for an rwx-enabled file
Hi, I'm searching the web for a while but cannot find an answer to this, even on Samba wiki, so please, does somebody have a clue, how to enable MODIFY access permission for a file that is located on Samba share? The fileserver is Samba, member of AD domain, local filesystem ext4, basic ACLs. The file has properly set rwx for users and groups needed, both for a file and for parent directory.

Can only access new SAMBA fileshare from Windows as privileged user SAMDOM/Administrator, not as an ordinary user.
Hi Rowland, thanks for your suggestions. I have read and re-read the Samba docs to try and understand where I went wrong here. I added the uidNumber and gidNumber exactly as per your comments and that seems to improve the situation markedly. I can now at least see that the share exists from SAMDOM\stephenellwood which wasn't possible before. File access is now possible from
