Re: Long Directory Names and DOS
Hey list, I thought I'd try this one more time. I can't believe there isn't any way to get directory names to be listed properly under DOS 6.2. My original message was: I'm having some trouble getting Samba to properly display directory names for a DOS machine. Basically, I have a few old DOS 6.2 boxes mapped to a Samba box to drop some files into. The folder name on the Samba

upgrade 2.2.8a -> 3.0 Debian DOS long filename problem
Hi, I tried to upgrade from Samba 2.2.8a to 3.0. It worked generally speaking fine and speed went up tremendously, BUT since then the DOS conversion of long file names is freaking me out. Using long file names produced a readable short version plus ~1 oder ~x. where x stands for a number. now long file names produce some cryptic 8 letter name plus extension. listing in a DOS box

Samba-to-Samba connection problems
Hey list, I'm still having some issues getting 2 Fedora machines running Samba 3.0.7 to stay connected for any length of time. My setup looks like this: 1 of the systems is set up as a Samba Server as the main fileserver. I have some Windows XP machines connecting to it just fine, nice and fast. However, I also have some FC2 systems that connect to it using the smbfs filesystem, and while

Non running DOS programs from path with long names
Greetings List I have a redhat 7.3/Samba 2.2.3a file server (NOT PDC) on a linux/windows network. Everything seemed to work well in Win32 land until we noticed this interesting feature. We have stored a DOS program ("DOSPROG.EXE") in a local public Samba share, 777 directory and file permissions. So all open and highly unsecure. We want to run the program from a Win98 client. To do

long filenames always mangled under dos
I create a Bootdisk from Win98 with "sys a:" and the netsetup from the Microsoft FTP-server to have TCP/IP under DOS. I can map the shares from Samba to a drive with: "net use d: \\server\win98" The problem is that all long filenames are mangled, but not in the way DOS does it. The Folder "Program Files" does not become "Progra~1" but "Progr~4Z".

SAMBA 3alpha. DOS - long filenames not listed.
I have compiled and tested Samba 3-alpha (CVS up to 10/12/01) and I have the following problem. Anyone tell me what I am doing wrong as I can't believe that I am the only person suffering from this. The environment is Mandrake 7.2 with kernel 2.2.17 talking to multiple machines running Win98 and WinMe. This also happens on Mandrake 8.1 with kernel 2.4.8. I have the ability to easily

Samba 3alpha. Where are my DOS long filenames?
Does ANYONE know why a directory listing from the MSDOS box of a Windows9x/Me client of a Samba 3 share on Linux not show the long filenames as well as the mangled form? This works on Samba 2.2.3. All I get is this. Volume in drive T is TESTBED1 Directory of T:\ COMPATID TXT 95 15/10/00 16:05 AUTOEXEC I4 406 04/12/00 17:17 NPWMSDRM DLL 8,608 08/06/00

Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Sambashare
Nathan, Thanks for the tips. Most of these settings were already in place, but the ones that were not already there I set up, with the exception of the 'force group' setting. I hesitate to try this simply because many of the subfolders under the shared volume are have their access controlled by group, and I didn't want to risk preventing others from accessing their files in the middle

SMB/NMBD configuration troubles.
Folks, I am stumped! I have followed every tech tip I could find and I am still unable to complete my SMB installation. Specifically, I fail Test 4 and Tests 9 and 10. I believe the problem has something to do with the NMBD configuration. Below are the parameters of our system. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cofnigure (Building) trouble
Hi, I'm trying to build R on SuSE 10.1/x86_64. I had to download fortran as it wasn't supplied by SuSE. Octave, which also uses both C and Fortran was able to compile w/o trouble. The problem I run in to with R is the following. R's configure script will complain that it can't find the fortran libraries (octave didn't give this complaint). When I specify them using

Linux-to-Linux permissions?
Hey list, I'm having some permissions problems with a couple of Linux boxes. I have 1 box set up running as a Samba server for our Windows boxes, which is working great. I also need to have a second Linux box connect to it to run some applications against it. So, I have everything set up in the fstab file to mount the shared drive. That part works great. However, the permissions are always

dos floppy client for samba wanted
I need to be able to access my Samba network from a DOS floppy. Obviously it must be a tcp/ip client rather than netbeui. Any pointers on doing this? Not *too* cryptic as I'm not expert at this sort of thing. I'm pretty sure I saw some material on the Samba site, but now I cannot find it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Lindsay Allen

Permission Denied when "all" bits not set to r/w
Hello, I'm having trouble with permissions on Samba 3.0.21. It almost seems that the "all" bits are the only ones that Samba is obeying. For instance, I created this file remotely over a samba share: brandon.dimcheff@unity ~/untitled folder $ ls -als total 17 0 drwx--S--- 3 brandon.dimcheff westpole 160 Jul 3 15:51 . 1 drwx------ 12 brandon.dimcheff westpole 816 Jul 3

Help
I am trying to figure out 2 things. First I have downloaded the version 4.05 of the syslinux distribution and am looking for the pxelinux.0 file and can't see to find it in the distribution am I missing something? Secondly I have an older copy and I can get it to boot to the tftp32 server for a server I am building. It errors out when it gets to the nic card and then exists to the shell.
