Installing R-2.2.0 package
Dear list, I've just installed R-2.2.0 under Solaris and have a question about installing packages. If a package fails to install for any reason and I go to install another package, I get this message: $ R-2.2.0-64bit --vanilla CMD INSTALL ~/srca/cran/RSQLite_0.4-0.tar.gz ERROR: failed to lock directory '/app/openpkg/lib/R-2.2.0-64bit/lib/R/library' for modifying Try removing

3.x & Solaris 8 lockups
Is anybody experiencing what I have twice now -- Samba 3.x running fine on Sparc/Solaris 8 for a week or more then one day out of the blue it'll just go all haywire? So haywire that in both my instances of this I had to change Samba versions to get the servers back to life. Long boring story short on any useful detail below... Recently I had to go from 2.x to 3.x series since there

CIFS + NFS'ing a single filesystem w/ locking
Hi, I have a Solaris 10 server exporting UFS directories using built-in NFS. I've built Samba 3.0.20b from OpenPKG (www.openpkg.org). I have a Solaris 10 (x86) client mounting the NFS share and opening OpenDocument files using StarOffice 8 (SO8, aka OO2.0). I also have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server mounting the Samba share and opening documents with SO8. This is a temporary development

Basic SAMBA setup
Hi, I want to setup a simple SAMBA file server, in its most simple configuration first, and then fine-tune that gradually. I've never worked with SAMBA before, so I based myself on Carla Schroder's "Linux Cookbook", chapter XX: SAMBA. Here's what I did, following the step-by-step instructions and reading the explanations as to what-does-what: # mkdir -m 777 /shares Rename

Samba from Sunfreeware and nss_winbind.so
Sunfreeware.com has compiled packages of Samba 3.4.2 with kerberos and ldap support included (if you also install the ldap and kerberos packages from sunfreeware.) However it does not include the nss_winbind.so.* or libnss_winbind.so.* files. Solaris does include nss_winbind.so already (since it is included with Samba 3.0.x) or I could compile it from the 3.4.x source code. But then I

pop before smtp
I'm using the latest version of dovecot on my FreeBSD 4.x box with OpenPKG to keep other services up to date. Now...I'm able to get pbsmtp to allow relaying through postfix on this server using UW IMAP, but I would like to get dovecot working with relaying...but pbsmtp is not adding the ip when I uncomment the dovecot section after I authenticate. The log is below: [root at

Basic Setup Question
I have been struggling with SAMBA for about a month now. Wow, as a Windows user it's really infuriating trying to use SAMBA to put a Linux machine in my system. This is clearly the most frustrating aspect of Linux, in my opinion. All I want to do is make my Linux machine behave like any other Windows XP Professional machine in my office (I do confess, one of my employees brings in her

Samba 64 bit compilation
Which platform? If on Solaris 10 sparc, GCC (either from Sun or sunfreeware.com) should be 64-bit by default. GCC from Sunfreeware for Solaris 10 x86 will compile 32-bit by default. For Solaris, you are better off using Sun Studio and Dmake. Actually, you are better off just using the compiled version from Oracle/Sun. On 06/13/12 02:08, prabu.murugan at emc.com wrote: > Hi, > >

Building Samba 3.5.9 on Solaris 10
I wanted to build samba with CUPS and LDAP support, and put it into a location from where it can be automounted by other systems. There were a few gotchas I solved the hard way, to save anyone else's time, this is what I did. C compiler I used is Sun's Studio. Solaris sed behaves differently to Sunfreeware sed tolka source3 $ echo libwbclient.so.0|/usr/local/bin/sed

Possible issue with PAM/OpenSSH?
I recently compiled OpenSSH and its supporting products (see version list below) for my Solaris 8 system. With the exception of options changing the install locations of the products and the fact that the versions of the software I used were current, I followed same procedure used to compile and install the products outlined in the Sun white paper "Building and Deploying OpenSSH for the

Windows password longer than 8 char
Hello,, Our Samba servers use SERVER security, and authenticate against the same MS-Windows logon server (PDC) that serves all our Windows 2K desktops. Any of us with a Windows network password less than or equal to 8 characters long can mount the Samba shares seamlessly, just like any Windows file server. However, if you set your Windows password longer than 8 characters, Samba authentication

Here's a recipe for Samba+Active Directory on Solaris 9
Samba 3.0.22 on Solaris 9 with Active Directory =============================================== Dan Shearer Version 1.0 May 2006 Official Samba binaries for Solaris 9 are not enabled for ADS support. Enabling ADS is much harder than it looks, mostly because of the crazy Solaris 9 build environment. Here is the simplest reproducable recipe I could find for ADS-enabled Samba on a default fresh

Build on Solaris 8 gcc-3.1 fails make check
Dear R-help, I am trying to build R-1.5.1 on a Sun Blade 100 (sparc). It fails make check when var(1) returns NaN instead of NA. Using gcc-2.95.3 from sunfreeware.com, the build succeeds and passes make check I have: Solaris 8 gcc-3.1 (built on that machine from sources and installed in /usr/local/gcc-3.1 with binaries symlink'ed to /usr/local/bin) A synopsis is at the bottom of
