Secondary Groups and Group Mapping
We are having what appears to be two main issues in our attempt to setup Samba 3.0.0 compiled from src on Solaris 8. We are using Samba to provide Unix shares on W2K clients, and to authenticate against a W2K Active Directory server. OpenLDAP is used on the Samba side for the UID/GID to SID mappings.
The first issue deals with the file sharing. Even if a file gives full permission to one of a

Samba/Winbind slow with Active Directory
Hi all,
I'm looking for answers regarding a problem I'm having with Samba. Since
a year our Samba fileserver is part of out worldwide corporate Active
Directory. Before that Samba was part of our local NT4 domain. Since the
change to Active Directory the Samba server became slower and sometimes
does not respond at all to share requests.
I need to find a solution to reduce the time

domain users appear as local to samba
Hello,
I have a samba server (3.0.21c) that gets its UNIX user info from
nss_ldap. It acts as an ADS member server (the UNIX usernames match the
ones in the Windows domain).
Simple usage works fine: if I log in on a Win client as DOMAIN\user then
I can map a drive on \\samba\user and read/write and so on. However if I
look up the security properties of a file in \\samba\user, the owner
shows up

Don't worry, your sanity is not affected. My mail provider had changed
submission policy without a sufficient notification, causing my transit mail
server to block mail queue since last August.

Local and domain SIDs -- WAS: Is there any way to change the vm computer name which joined AD

This is not a hostname issue. This is a pure AD/NT-SID issue**

Help cleaning up domain SID mess...
I have four SLES 10 servers working as Samba servers on the same domain
with an LDAP account backend. Relevant smb.conf entries are:

workgroup = UNIX
realm = UNIX.UIB.NO
server string = ukl-samba
netbios name = ukl-samba
security = user
allow trusted domains = yes
domain master = yes
local master = yes

Profiles utility not obtaining SID
For a few years, I've used a homegrown script to migrate local profiles to
domain profiles utilizing the profiles utility. After upgrading to Samba
3.0.23c, the profiles utility has changed.
The script used to run the profiles utility against the NTUSER.DAT file to
obtain the user and group SIDS. Now, however, the utility will only print
off TONS of stuff to stderr (of course not the SIDS,

Re: Moving samba PDC to new machine (unable to change domain SID)
So, I followed these directions and got errors in log.nmbd regarding
"domain_master_node_status_fail". There were still entries for the old
server's ip address in connections.tdb, gencache.tdb, locking.tdb and
sessionid.tdb, so I stopped samba, deleted them and restarted. All was
well.
I then changed the SID using "net setlocalsid

WinBind Questions
Hello everyone,
I'm working on integrating the latest version of Samba (3.0.20b) into
our environment. I've been able to get the base of Samba working and
tied into our domain thanks to the HOWTO guide. I did have a quick
question though. In my smb.conf, I've got the tag 'winbind use default
domain = Yes' but when I run something like 'wbinfo -u' I see multiple

Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba
3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with
ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is
crunch time to update/upgrade.
I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10
(Redhat 6.4 based). So far I have tried to add two of my XP systems to

idmap_nss: Default domain not being used
I have an existing PDC which I am attempting to move across to a new
server. On the new server, I'm having trouble with idmap (using an LDAP
backend) and trusted domains. The smb.conf file is the same on both
servers. My idmap & winbind parameters are as follows:
ldap idmap suffix = ou=idmap
idmap backend = ldap:ldap://127.0.0.1
idmap uid = 10000-29000
idmap gid = 10000-29000

Recover from inadvertent change to domain SID
I have run Samba 2.2.2 without problems for three years.
The server acts as the domain controller for a domain of
thirty XP/2000 computers. Two weeks ago the domain
SID was accidentally changed. I can confirm this by
looking at backups of /etc/MACHINE.SID. I am not sure
how the SID changed but I _think_ that it may have occurred
during testing for an upgrade to Samba 3 :(
I now find that _some_

Problems to join domain (clients XP send false SID !)
Hi all.
First, sorry for my poor english.
I'm using samba on debian stable as PDC with backend ldap on a small
network.
Sometimes, and I don't know exactly when and why, there's a problem
when clients XP3
joins domain (it blocks on next window just after login while receiving
profile , sorry I don't know the message in english version),
and this, only on 2 physical

AD Functional Level vs very old SaMBa member server
Will I really HAVE to use the idmap backends AD or RID? I was planning to
use TDB2 with a script which I've already written:

confused about directory permissions for profdata
This week I migrated out main server from Fedora 8 to Fedora 11. It
has been a stressful time, but things are mostly working. Samba and
LDAP weren't really a problem, but I've beat down the list of problems
to something Samba related.
(For the benefit of anyone else going this route, the biggest problem
by far was iptables. Maybe we had it turned off under FC8, but I

[Old] Clients cannot login into Samba-Domain
I had a working "Samba-2.2.7a-SuSE" domain (with roaming profiles,etc.)
but this server crashed. So I copied the samba directory with the config
files (including secrets.tdb, passwd, ...) from my backup to the second
server and started nmb and smb, but the Clients could'nt log onto the
domain. The error was something like: "You couldn't log on. Please check

Missing sids for domain administrator?
Hi,
I'm working on bug https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6592 and
something that has apparently changed in my setup is preventing me from
testing the final stages of the fix. I have a machine running Samba
server and joined to the domain, and am accessing that from the W2K3
domain server logged, logged into the latter as the domain
administrator. But the problem is that in its access

Moving a domain to new Linux install - Win7 ok but WinXP not ok
Hi all,
I am migrating a Samba 3 domain from an ageing server to a new server. I've
exported all users from the old server and imported them on the new server
using the following command (LDAP to TdbSam):
pdbedit -i ldapsam:ldap://127.0.0.1 -e tdbsam:/tmp/tdbsam.agix
scp /tmp/tdbsam.agix new.server.local:/etc/samba/passdb.tdb
I've set the same SID on the new server. Windows7
