Mounting / as ext3 when ext3 is modularized in 2.4
Hello,
I recently switched from 2.2 to 2.4 kernel. Each partition already contains
a journal. I tried kernel-2.4.5-0.2.9 from RedHat Rawhide, where ext3/jbd is
modularized. For the people who want to try this kernel, you first need to
rebuild it, and enable CONFIG_JBD_DEBUG. This solves an unresolved symbol
in jbd.o which prevents ext3 to load. (This issue will be solved in next
RawHide)

How to replace ntfs by ntfs-3g?
Hello,
I can write to an ntfs partion if mounting it by hand with 'mount -t
ntfs-3g /dev/sdf5 /mnt/xp'. But if I use the mount option from the kde
Storage Media panel applet (kdebase-3.5.4-13.6.el5.centos) then the
partion will be mounted without write support. So how to say kde and
CentOS to use ntfs-3g and not ntfs? Maybe by changing some links?
Thank you very much.

Hardware RAID 10 server - reformat NTFS partition to ext3 and resize for Centos 5.5
Here's the situation. I have a dual boot machine - originally had Red
Hat and Windows 2000 Pro. The NTFS partition never did seem to 'get
along' with the Adaptec 2400A caching RAID controller. Linux always
seemed to like the I2O drivers. I went from RH Enterprise to now running
Centos 5.5. Works great! I really don't want the 200 gigs worth of NTFS.
Can't I just run

ext3-2.4-0.9.0
An update of the ext3 journalling filesystem for 2.4 kernels
is available at
http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/
Patches are against 2.4.6-ac1 and 2.4.6.
Changes since 0.0.8 include:
- Multiplied the version numbering by ten to cater for bugfix
releases against the 0.9.0 stream.
- The main thrust has been the removal of a number of changes in
the core kernel which were required

Disk size on share with multiple partitions
Hi list,
I am exporting share which has a small base partition into which several
much larger partitions are mounted. Which are used by different user groups.
My problem is, that windows takes the size of the base partition to be
the size of the whole share.
If I try to copy anything larger than the base partion into a partition
that is actually larger Windows reports insuffient disk size

none on /proc type proc (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/hdd1 on /mnt/tmp type vfat (rw)

iSCSI disk preperation
I am currently going through the process of installing/configuring an
iSCSI target and cannot find a good write up on how to prepare the disks
on the server. I would like to mirror the two disks and present them to
the client. Mirroring isn't the question, its how I go about it is the
problem. When I partitioned the two drives and mirrored them together,
then presented them to the client,

ext3 file system becoming read only
Hi
In our office environment few servers mostly database servers and yesterday it
happened
for one application server(first time) the partion is getting "read only".
I was checking the archives, found may be similar kind of issues in the
2007-July archives.
But how it has been solved if someone describes me that will be really helpful.
In our case, just at the problem started found

Re: Windows apps from windows parttion
I'd have to guess "no" on this one. I believe wine uses it's own
registry settings, so for most windows apps to run they need to be
configured in the windows registry -- unless they happen to be
stand-alone apps that don't require any special files or registry
settings (some of these do exist).
I'm assuming you'd like to run programs installed on your windows

Hi, All
I get following question:
A data format like following:
[Day time x y]

ext3 patch for 2.4.6 (plain or ac1)
Does the ext3 patch applies on top of the newly released
2.4.6 kernel (and/or the 2.4.6-ac1 variant) ?
I want to upgrade to the new kernel and wanted to know
before I run into problems if there are any known problems
and if it's better to wait for an 'official' release.
Thanks.
Stelian.

disk partitioning: 6.0 install to harddrive using liveCD
Greetings:
I'm planning to set up a test Centos 6.0 box (has CDROM, but no
DVD) with these partions:
/ 10GB ( no separate mount for /usr )
/tmp 1GB
/var 10GB
/boot 500MB
The centos mirrors I have seen do not provide the full distro on
CD (this box has no DVD). I'm used to having about 6 CD isos to work with.
The livecd install to hard

RAID Hot Spare
I've googled this question without a great deal of information.
Monday I'm rebuilding a Linux server at work. Instead of purchasing 3
drives for this system I purchased 4 with intent to create a hot spare.
Here is my usual setup which I'll do again but with a hot spare for each
partion.
Create /dev/md0 mount point /boot RAID1 3 drives with 1 hot spare
Create two more raid setups
