client driver = yes" in your printer share. For details please see the

This is probably your problem. You override the default mangling method
in samba3 from hash2 to hash. hash2 behaves more like Windows mangling.

Fw: Moving Samba to a different Linux server.
Please help,
I am having a problem with a Samba server I have attempted to move to a new
Redhat 9 box (it was on Redhat 9 before).
Here's the what I did:
1) I transferred the follwing files & dirs to the fresh RedHat box :
/etc/passwd
/etc/shadow
/etc/group
/etc/gshadow
/etc/samba/* (the whole dir)
/var/cache/samba/* (the whole dir)
2) I stopped SMB services on the old box

Samba 3 tdb's
Which samba 3 tdb's are safe to have smb regenerate on startup?
I know in Samba 2 you can remove everything except winbindd_idmap,
share_info, and the nt* tdb's. Is it the same for samba3?
Reason I asked is I just had a pretty bad failure on 3.0.1pre3 that
started with bad magic errors in connections.tdb, after a few hours grew
into sessionid.tdb, and finally winbind problems (though no

man smb.conf /Access Denied (or /Unable to connect)
Turns up the "use client driver" parameter. Best way to deal with this
problem, which occurs when you have w2k and XP users who install drivers
locally and are local admins, is to not have them install the drivers
locally (use the print$ share). Second best is to use client driver =
yes, which has some side-affects but gets the job

Outlook pst errors on samba share
A user has recently moved his .pst file onto a samba shared
folder for testing, but he is seeing the following error message
on a samba 2.2.8a installation (linux/s390 SuSE SLES8):
"Can't open this item. The file z:\Personal Folders.pst could
not be accessed because another workstation has modified it.
Close and then restart all mail-enabled applications."

Using working devmode from windows clients on samba server?
Samba 2.2.7a (built from samba RPM's) with LPRng print subsystem.
I've been having troubles with some print drivers which fail to work
properly when uploaded to the samba server whether devmode gets left as
null or a default devmode is used. Some drivers do not leave you in a
position where you can "tickle" the driver to generate a devmode with
page orientation etc before

access 2003 clients can't print to samba 3 server (access 2000 can)
Has anyone else heard of or had any issues printing with Access 2003 to
samba servers? Other office 2003 products print fine, and Access 2000
worked, but Access 2003 will not print to a samba server here. In order
to get access 2003 to print, I have to change default printer to
something on a windows server, and then it works?
Anybody heard/seen anything?
Thanks,

Samba 3 beta 3 helpers and squid?
I'm trying the new RHEL 3 beta, which comes with samba 3 beta 3, and
squid 2.5.STABLE3. Both samba and squid seem appropriately compiled...
and I'm using the same config files as samba 2.2.8a and squid
2.5.stable3 (which worked), but windows authentication with the helpers
is failing.
I asked the squid list first, and got

Samba 3 - ntlm_auth ntlmssp failing
Is /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp supposed to be
working at this stage of samba 3? With RH EL3 beta (taroon) which comes
with samba-3.0.0-3rc1.3E packages (and squid-2.5.STABLE3-2.3E packages),
the /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-basic helper works
great but /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp always

Usernames with dots
Now that I have winbind working, life is good. However, I've hit upon a
real kick in the pants.
As you can see from my email address, we have a convention here of
usernames being firstname.lastname. So, when I go to change the owner
ship of a file:
$ chown chris.palmer myfile
Linux thinks I mean user chris, group palmer, and says "invalid group"
(there is no palmer group,

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] LLVM 3.0 broken in lib/Support/Windows/DynamicLibrary.inc
I don't know since when, but this file has been changed to remove all the
trickery (aka defines) needed for MinGW-w64 (and probably everything else
that as forgotten) to succesfully compile it.
Attached is a patch that reintroduces the compiler checking. I would like
to see this in LLVM 3.0, otherwise (by the looks of the reintroduced code)
anything newer than _MSC_VER_1500 will be broken.

Last Resort Route...
Hey all, can''t find the answer to this through the powers of Google.
How can I get a "catch-all" route for anything that doesn''t get mapped
otherwise.
So basically, the idea I want is to have something like:
map.connect "*", :controller => "page", :action => "redirect"
and call it good. I''ve tried overriding a couple of

I just realized libguestfs uses fork. Now we know why qemu-img worked - I
launched it with popen.

Delete source folder?
Hello all,
We're using rsync to move files from a server to a client (an embedded
device, connected over GPRS) using a cron script on the client. To
accomplish this, we use the --delete-source-files option. As I found in the
archives, this doesn't remove any folders. Is there a way to have rsync
remove the folders as well?
As all data flows over the internet, we encrypt it using an SSH
