RedHat 9 Samba and SWAT
Hi all, I've googled and discovered that others have had this problem, but no one has given sufficient details about how they solved it, so I'm still stuck. As preface, I'm a high school teacher, and although I teach programming, my sysadmin experience is minimal, so please be explicit in your replies. I've been following the instructions in the O'Reilly Samba book for

Help with Swat
Hello! I am a Linux newbie. I have put a DHCP network together (to share windows drives on home computers) and I cannot get SWAT to work. On Redhat 7.0, SWAT is a choice in the settings bar on the Gnome desktop. When I run swat, the error message is something like "error, connection timed out" from Netscape. As far as I can tell, the port is inactive "http://localhost:901" I

Clients can find printer when "browsing" but not otherwise
I had a working Samba installation on my home network. Then I replaced one printer with another. The new printer is successfully installed on my RedHat 9.0 system on /dev/lp0. It is an Epson C82. From the RedHat system all is well. However, I am unable to print to this printer via Windows XP boxes on my network. Samba is working to the extent that Windows can find these printers via

expand.grid game
Dear list, In a little numbers game, I've hit a performance snag and I'm not sure how to code this in C. The game is the following: how many 8-digit numbers have the sum of their digits equal to 17? The brute-force answer could be: maxi <- 9 # digits from 0 to 9 N <- 5 # 8 is too large test <- 17 # for example's sake sum(rowSums(do.call(expand.grid, c(list(1:maxi),

Craddock-Flood Test in R?
Hello The "Craddock-Flood Test" is recommended for large tables with small degrees of freedom and low-frequency cells. Is there an R procedure and/or package which does the test? Story Runner, autoincrementing
I''ve written a story and I run into a snag. I''ve written the create_forum method and told it to set the id to 1 but when it creates the forum the id is autoincremented. My forums table is empty but the id keeps incrementing the newest record on creation. When I run the story it comes out as something like 59 which fails my story because I''m asking it to look at /forums/1

mongrel_cluster clarification
Apologizes in advance if this sounds rather dense, but I want to make sure I''m understanding everything correctly. We''re in the process of migrating from Apache2.0/FastCGI to Apache2.0+mongrel (why not 2.2? that story is too long and too uninteresting to recount here, but I will tell you that it involves RHEL and only using RHN rpms). The init script that comes with mongrel

SWAT: How do I save the settings?
Hi, I might have overlooked something very obvious, but: I am running Samba 2.0.3 on a SuSE 6.0 system. When I connect to SWAT, I can see all the settings in the Globals sections, I can change them, but I can't find any button anywhere to *save* these changes... Can anyone help? :)avid <>< David A. Samba Won't Start
Hello- We're running Samba 1.9.14 on UnixWare 2.1.1, well, it was running. Suddenly it won't start- not when the machine is booted, not when I try to do it manually in /etc/rc2.d, from /usr/local/samba/bin or from the samba source directory. I tried starting it with debugging but got no messages. Has anybody seen this problem before? Any ideas? It may be a system setup problem, but

Savin Copier Print Processor
I have FreeBSD 5.3 running on an Sun Ultra 10. I installed Samba 3.03, from patching SWAT now says version 3.07. I am having an issue printing from Windows through Samba to Savin copiers (model 9935DPE and 9945DPE) when downloading the Windows drivers directly from the [print$] share. When I print a test page, the orientation of the lettering is correct but the letters are gibberish. The

SWAT and cups printing.
I have been using swat for a really long time. This is the first I have ever REALLY caught it doing something wrong. In the latest version of SAMBA, with swat compiled at the same time (with the explorer patch added afterward) I am fairly certain, I have found and issue. I am tooling along, I use swat to add a share. No problems, share works fine. About 10 minutes later, I start getting phone

Testing that named_scope is defined
Hi guys, I''m just beginning to use RSpec and I ran into the issue of testing a named_scope. I''m not actually trying to test its behavior, as it''s not my code, but I wanted to test at least that it''s defined. I tried doing this: describe Post, ".most_recent" do it "should be defined" do Post.method_defined?(:most_recent).should be_true

Cannot mount gluster volume
Hi, We recently installed glusterfs 3.3.1. We have a 3 brick gluster system running that was being successfully mounted earlier. Yesterday we experienced a power outage and now after rebooting our systems, we are unable to mount this gluster file system. On the gluster client, a df -h command shows 41TB out of 55TB, while an ls command shows broken links for directories and missing files.

Samba and Network Neighborhood
Hi All, I turned my Debian box into a file server on my home network. What happened is now no boxen except the localhost shows up in Network Neighborhood on the Windows boxen. All shares work fine and if I search for the Linux server, I find it. Has anyone ever run into this and resolved it? Three days of Googling have left me with the same problem and a headache. Thanks.
