unable to open passdb database.
I found many questions but no answers on the web. I described my needs in earlier post, but now switched from security = domain to security = server, and designated the AD domain server as the password server. It works as desired, i.e. I don't need smbpasswd any more, and if windows users change their passwords by ctrl-alt-del, they can later use the new password without coming to admins.

Kerberos and Native Mode AD
Server 1: Win 2003 Server (in Native Mode) Server 2: Red Hat 7.3 (with Samba 3.0.2a) My RH box has succesfully joined the domain. getent passwd/group grab Unix/ADS info okay. (I can login to the RH with an ADS account.) The problem is mapping to the Samba shares. \\IP_Addr\Share works just fine. \\Hostname\Share fails with Access Denied. I've read the IP works because it uses NTLM, but via

FW: Can't get more than one SIP device to be able to make outgoing calls
I'm in the initial stages of my asterisk experimentation, and after some messing about, have it working to some extent. Right now I'm in a pure SIP environment with no trunk lines and no NAT, and am configuring everything via Asterisk@Home. My problem is that I am only able to get one SIP device to be able to call out at a time. For example, if I register my Cisco 7960 at extension

I have done all the gain adjustments What I would like is for someone to answer me with what works for

rsync giving directory by name, instead of contents
Hi all! I've read the manual and google'ed aplenty, but sadly can't figure out this particular issue. Perhaps someone can thwack me with the correct cluestick? I have a number of directories listed under one path in an rsyncd module. I'd like to rsync the contents of some of the directories. Here's essentially what the source filesystem looks like: /home /home/user1

PDC error; can not open passdb database
I am looking to setup a domain server. I have tried and tried and this is the closest I have gotten so far. The main problem I have is in the user authentication. I am getting an error that the user or password is wrong. Currently it looks like Samba can not access the passwd file. What is this file? My log for the client give this error: [2003/06/05 15:35:35, 0]

password server vs. passdb
Hi, Is it possible to run a non-PDC file server which references an authentication server via the "password server" directive as a BDC to the PDC? In short, I have one machine that serves as the LDAP auth server and PDC for my domain. I have another machine that is the file server and uses the aforementioned "password server" directive to authenticate users. Now, I would

WinXP, samba 2.2.7, and intermittent "unable to open passdb"
Greetings. We are seeing an intermittent problem with Samba on our RedHat 8.0 file server (also seen with RedHat 7.3 prior to the upgrade to 8.0). Normally, a Windows XP machine can connect to the file server's shares and work on them. However, sometimes after being up for a while, connections from the XP machine to the file server no longer work. In particular, on the XP side, the following

Access Database
One of our servers is a CentOS 4 Linux/Samba filesharing server that serves an access database (via a mapped drive) to a client application running on Windows 98. Ever since we started rsync'ing it to back it up every night, it required samba to be restarted after the backup or the clients had trouble accessing the database. Recently though, the client application is complaining when
