online resizing patch for ext3-2.4?
Hi Andreas, Any plans to do a release of the online resizing patch for ext3-1.0? I've put off asking about this until Al Viro's superblock handling and other fixes were done, but now that LVM 1.0.1 seems to be approaching a stable and -linus/-ac mergeable state, this would certainly make deploying ext3+LVM a lot simpler. Oracle on ext3?
Hi All, we´re currently running an Oracle DB un SuSE 7.2 with kernel 2.2.19 and 0.0.7b ext3 Patch. Do you have any recommendations for maximum performance with the Database? Tablespace Sizes are about 15 GB User, 10 GB Temp. Main Operation of DB is reporting (index load, table scan, arithmetic operations). Which mount option should be best (concerning performance)? Hints welcome. -- Christian

1.36 again
Given that no 1.36 has appeared from Fedora Core, I thought I would create the rpm myself. I took the 1.35-11.2 src.rpm from FC3 and updated the spec file for 1.36. However, the build fails. Has anyone successfully created a 1.36 rpm for FC3? If so, what did you need to do? Gene

Re: [linux-lvm] lvm deadlock with 2.4.x kernel?
I think I have this one solved, I hope. I think what Andreas and I are running into are a few different assertions. One being the LVM lvm_do_pv_flush caused assertion which is related directly to invalidate_buffers() being called which then triggers refile_buffer() on a journaled buffer, which appears clean in all other ways according to the checks in refile_buffer(). The following is what

ext3 device reported to be 100% full, but we do not know where?
Hello to everybody here, We have a strange problem with ext3. df reports 28 of 30 GB to be used (rest may be slack) which it calls 100% used. But with du we can only find 13 GB, most of it actually in pretty large files (archives). Where are the other 17 GB gone? [SUMMARY] 2 Linux boxes, failover, & 1 EXT3 RAID
Hello, Many warm thank yous to Bill Rugolsky Jr. and Stephen Tweedie for their help on this one. Both pointed out that since the file system is journaled, if the primary box (nas1) were to crash, the secondary box should mount the ext3 file system without any problems. Depending on the nature of the journal (metadata journaling and/or data journaling), we may have little or no data loss. Bill

DO NOT USE Software Raid1 and Ext3
Conclusion: DO NOT USE SOFTWARE RAID-1 WITH EXT3 I've started with this conclusion cause i am positive that raid-1 and ext3 are causing data corruption. I've upgraded from 7.1 to 7.2 and from the first date i run into data corruption problems @ least once per day (i was monitoring once per day only) after 7 days we bought a brand new server cause the previous was very old and i thought

RAID-5/LVM/ext3
Hello: We trying to configure one machine (Compaq Proliant ML760) with 8 disks (72GB each disk) with RAID. We are thinking to use ext3 and LVM in RedHat 7.2 for manage one filesystem with 500GB. This filesystems have to store near off 5.000.000 of files. Is this possible? Could I resize the filesystems/volume to 1TB? what are the ext3 and LVM limits? someone have tested sismilar environment? Enlarge ext3 Logical Volume (Filesystem) in a volume group (LVM)
Anybody know a way to enlarge a filesystem ext3 without having to unmounted it, when they are still space left in the volume group (when using LVM) ? I will be running large production linux system running Oracle. I can't stop the database everytime I have to enlarge a filesystem. We can do it with all others filesystems (JFS, REISERSFS and XFS) when they are created in a volume group. Why

[PATCH] Strip trailing . when using HostbasedUsesNameFromPacketOnly
The following simple patch (against openssh-3.1) moves the test for a trailing dot in the client-supplied hostname so that it is also stripped when using the server option HostbasedUsesNameFromPacketOnly. Please CC me on any replies, as I'm not subscribed to the list. Cheers, Bill Rugolsky --- ssh/auth2.c~ Sun Feb 24 14:14:59 2002 +++ ssh/auth2.c Wed May 8 16:26:26 2002 @@ -709,15

how to use LVM snapshot with ext3 - VFS lock patch applicability
Hi, I have an ext3 file system on top of LVM and i use journaled mode. I would like to make a snapshot of my filesystem while the application is running in order to backup on another physical storage. For that i have to create an LVM snapshot and then to mount it in read-only for copying the content. This is not possible as far as ext3 needs to do a log replay at mount time ( AFAIK). I would

SEM model testing with identical goodness of fits
HI, I am testing several models about three latent constructs that measure risk attitudes. Two models with different structure obtained identical of fit measures from chisqure to BIC. Model1 assumes three factors are correlated with each other and model two assumes a higher order factor exist and three factors related to this higher factor instead of to each other. Maximum ext3 file system size ??
Hi, If the ext3 file system maximum size updated or it is still 4TB for 2.6.* kernel? The site at http://batleth.sapienti-sat.org/projects/FAQs/ext3-faq.html says that it is 4TB yet, but I would like to know if it is possible to create and use stable & easy-to-fix (or at least as stable & easy-to-fix as ext3) file systems as big as 100TB for 32 bit Linux architecture? Any experience

Decoding only a certain frame results in different values than when decoding the entire file
My file is 3 hours long, so decoding takes around 5 minutes on an average computer. That is a bit too long unfortunately... resize2fs on LVM on MD raid on Fedora Core 3 - inode table conflicts in fsck
Hi. I'm attempting to setup a box here to be a file-server for all my data. I'm attempting to resize an ext3 partition to demonstrate this capability to myself before fully committing to this system as the primary data storage. I'm having some problems resizing an ext3 filesystem after I've resized the underlying logical volume. Following the ext3 resize, fsck spits out lots

Building 3.7-p1 on i686-pc-linux-gnu for execution oni386-pc-linux-gnu
Peter, thanks for the idea! I did it exactly as you described... and I still get "Illegal instruction" on the 386 platform. I also tried # CFLAGS='-mcpu=i386 -march=i386' ./configure --prefix=/my/prefix/here and # CFLAGS="-mcpu=i386 -march=i386" ./configure --prefix=/my/prefix/here just for grins, and all had the same result. Still trying... Thanks, Mike >
