Crippled file list on samba 3.0.23-c2. Debian Etch x64 (files randomly not showing up)
Hi there people.
My first post here at the list so I hope I havn't made any misstakes so
far and that I can write in such a way so you people understand me. =)
The problem I have is that when I list folders on disks mouted with "mount
-t smbfs ..." the file lists of folders are crippled. What I mean is that
files are randomly missing in the lists even if they are there. A refresh

Does Gluster not support mul-thread to the same file?
I used a mul-thread program to write the same file in gluster. We just gained about 30MB/s write performance by gluster native client, whereas, using the same program, it's 100MB/s writing performance if mount gluster volume by NFS.
Could anyone tell me why? and how to improve write performance for mul-thread writing to the same file mouted by gluster native client. Thanks.

Samba-to-Samba connection problems
Hey list,
I'm still having some issues getting 2 Fedora machines running Samba 3.0.7 to stay connected for any length of time. My setup looks like
this: 1 of the systems is set up as a Samba Server as the main fileserver. I have some Windows XP machines connecting to it just fine, nice
and fast. However, I also have some FC2 systems that connect to it using the smbfs filesystem, and while

GPOs don't work after update from Samba4.0 alpha 17 to 4.0.1
Hi!
I have updated our server from Samba 4 alpha 17 to Samba 4.0.1.
Everything seems to work fine after some reconfiguration, but our
GPOs are not working anymore.
Samba 4 alpha 17 was using ntvfs and the root partition with the sysvol share was mounted with "user_xattr" only in /etc/fstab.
Samba 4.0.1 is now set to use s3fs and the root partition is mouted with

Do I need LILO or Grub for pxelinux network booting
Hello,
perhaps a stupid question.
I boot via network and use an initrd.
Do I have to prepare an MBR?
If yes, where have I to prepare it?
In the boot-sector of the initrd?
Or in the boot-sector of the drive that holds the root-file-system
that's mouted after initrd?
Sorry but I want to understand this.

mbox to maildir: what about INBOX
I migrated from UW IMAP/Qpopper to Dovecot using:
# indexes on /var/indexes is faster: local, not NFS mouted
default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=/var/indexes/%u
# Qpopper
pop3_reuse_xuidl = yes
The new mail is sent to in /var/mail/%u in mbox format
How can I migrate some users to maildir and have them receive
their emails either in POP3 or IMAP. (lots of big files to

rsync stops files transfert unexpectedly
Hello,
i used rsync for some years ago...Well fine because i synchronize laptops
and servers or laptops and PCs using rsync AND between both unix/linux
machines and unix/linux filesystems. Ok.
Now, i have to synchronize files that are on unix/linux filestems AND on
win filesystems (NTFS and FAT)...I thought: "don't worry, mounting win
filsystems with samba and so on". Yes

Bundling vendor library inside a package
If I have a vendor library (say libvendor.so) that I want my package to
link to, what is the "right way" to bundle that inside my package? My ideal
outcome would be that the package can be installed from tarball without
having to worry about installing anything to /usr/lib or tweaking some
systemwide variables. This isn't for public distribution so I'm not worried
about CRAN

Unable to delete files on Samba share
Hey list,
I'm seeing some strange behavior on a Samba server on a Fedora Core 2
system. What's happening is that a user, with full access to a folder,
will delete a file through Windows explorer. The file will disappear,
just like it was deleted. However, upon a refresh, the file is back
again. Thus far, the only workaround I've found is to change the user to
be the owner of the

Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Samba share
Hey all,
We're having some trouble saving Excel documents on our Samba Fileserver. We are moving people over to our Samba box, and have moved most of our documents over.
Now, we have people opening their Excel documents, but are unable to save them. When something is saved, we see this message:
Your changes could not be saved to 'document.xls', but were saved to a temporary document

What is the most cost effective hardware for R?
Has anyone got any advice about what hardware to buy to run lots of R
analysis? Links to studies or other documents would be great as would
be personal opinion.
We are not currently certain what analysis we shall be running, but our
first implementation uses the functions lme and gls from the library
nlme. To do one data point currently takes 1.5 seconds on our 3 year
old sunfire box, and

Menu using Scriptaculous Effects = OnMouseOver bug
I am trying to achieve a Flash-like menu with OnMouseOver effects on
3 divs below. Unfortunately, the javascript resets when the mouse is
rolled over the text and if you go mouse crazy on the divs, the
script seems to remember where it cut off, and doesn''t roll down
completely afterwards.
Is it a good place to ask for help? I couldn''t find any Scriptaculous

Mouting Xen DomU images in Dom0
Hi everyone,
I have a CentOS 5 Domain0 with a CentOS 5 Domain U installed on my
machine, it all works flawlessly. One of the problems I am faced with
is transporting the Domain U image to another machine (not in real
time).
Since the Virtual Machine Manager allows installing the guest
operating system using the CentOS 5 installer, it ends up treating the
partition (in my case an LVM partition)

ext3 mout: error 22
Hello,
I'm using RedHat 7.2. I needed to mount my root fs to
QNX 6.1. QNX only support ext2 but I tried that
anyway. The disk was mounted bad (for example the
/root directory seemed to be symbolic link to a
non-existing file).
When I wanted to boot from the RedHat again, these
error messages occured:
