Overloaded samba server. Is it a bug?
Experts,
We've just migrated from samba 2.2.8a to samba 3.0.20b in a very large
corporate environment. Everything was really fine in our lab, but we
began
experiment serious load problems on the productive servers the morning
after
the procedure took place. I'll try (briefly) to describe the
characteristics
of the scenario:

Weird EINVAL readig *large* file
Hi All,
I'm about to clean and re-initialize a Maxtor 160GB disk that
shows a weird problem but I think I've found a bug in RELENG_4_7
somewhere so if preserving my disk can help conquer one more bug
I'm happy to wait a couple of days and help solve that bug.
Here's the story:
While upgrading from 4.3-STABLE to 4.7p4 and at the same time
reorganizing my vinum volumes I copied

Winbind and local groups with nss
Hi all,
First of all, sorry for my english. I don't speak well english (of course I'm french! ;-) ) but I will try to do my best to explain you my problem.
I have a CentOS 6.3 system running with samba 3.5.10 against an AD 2008. My goal is to build a vsftpd server authenticating with users in my AD domain.
Everything is working quite fine but I have something strange :

I successfully installed RedHat 8.0 onto two ATA133 80gig drives running a mirrored RAID with the hpt37x (highpoint 372 onboard RaidController on the SOYO DRAGON motherboard.)
I used ext3 as my filesystem type of choice but unfortunately the system shut down uncleanly and it now is coming up with the "press Y to force file system integrity check" at boot.... which it runs by

DMA related disc issues
Howdy. I apologize for vagueness of this report but I am not immediately sure
how to proceed with this or what details will be relevant.
I look after a community server which has been running just fine for the last
6 months or so with no disk issues at all. The box has an all in one Shuttle
motherboard which uses the VIA 8233 ATA133 disk controller according to what
I see from dmesg. The

CentOS 5 + Nforce 4 SLI Intel SATA problems
I've been having an extremely hard time using the on board SATA
controller on my nvidia based board. I have two 160gig Maxtor SATA
drives attached to the on board controller, setup as software raid0. The
problem is the array is extremely unreliable, where I'm getting constant
I/O errors like:

[PATCH] BUG on fsync/fdatasync with Ext3 data=journal
Hello,
We found that fsync and fdatasync syscalls sometimes don't sync
data in an ext3 file system under the following conditions.
1. Kernel version is 2.6.6 or later (including 2.6.8.1 and 2.6.9-rc2).
2. Ext3's journalling mode is "data=journal".
3. Create a file (whose size is 1Mbytes) and execute umount/mount.
4. lseek to a random position within the file, write 8192 bytes

make installworld fails : touch not found ?
Hi, hackers :
Yesterday night and this morning, I cvsup my system to latest STABLE branch
source (RELENG_4). All make buildworld, buildkernel, and installkernel
procedure was completed with no error. But when I boot into single user mode
and try to make installworld, I always got " touch: not found " error.
Does anyone encounter this situation ? I have no idea about that. :-(

System hanging in acpi during shutdown
This morning, I upgraded my main system to an up-to-date -STABLE
including acpi and it now hangs during shutdown after reporting:
Waiting (max 60 seconds) for system process `vnlru' to stop...stopped
If I set hw.acpi.disable_on_poweroff=0 then the shutdown completes but
poweroff fails with (hand copied):

Samba performance on FreeBSD and other platforms in a 'Normal' world.
Hello everyone,
I have issues with samba on FreeBSD. Before I get into the gory details.
I'll outline some research I've done. As well as try to show that the people
who ask for help and are curious as to why they are getting poor performance
from their file server are not A. Crazy, B. Inexperienced and / or C. Twits.
(Mind you there is every possibility that I could be covered under

Hi.
I've noticed that dovecot (using 2.2.26.0 here) starts dovecot/config
processes that stay for long time. Example:

delete tc entries
I''m a newbie to tc and after some experimenting I have the following
problem:
# tc qdisc show
qdisc sfq 8006: dev ipsec0 quantum 1514b perturb 15sec
I can''t get rid of this entry. Is there a way to clear all entries? I
tried all sorts of "tc qdisc del xxx" but nothing seems to work. It

reshape speed improvement?
Hi,
have anybody a hint how i can perform my speed for
a big reshape jobs?
My "long" data.frame have dim 1.342.116 3 and the "wide" data.frame
could occur (if i don't filter the timevar) max. in a
246744 x 1444 data.frame with a lot of NA what could be set to 0.
Neverthless i didn't need really 1444 columns
(idependent's for data-mining) , but

Asterisk on Zonbu, impact of transcoding
Zonbu.com sells a little box I was planning to use as a router, but I
couldn't resist putting Asterisk on it just for fun. It may never see its
intended purpose.
The box costs US$249 (and was delivered 40 hours after being orderd!), but
you can get it for less if you subscribe to their service. I didn't.
The box is an Intel compatible processor (VIA Esther processor 1200MHz)
