Re: Filelocking-Problem: Mars_NWE together with Samba
Hi there,
we've got the following problem, while Windows-Clients works with samba and a
DOS-Client connects over Mars_NWE to the same Linux-Server:
When the DOS-Client opens a file on the linux-server and the WinClient opens
the same file, and when both clients want to write the same file, the
windows-client gets an error and crashes.
We tried it only with the windows-clients and there

Telephoning Announcements -- Suggestions?
In the subdivision where I live, we have a well that time to time has
problems. Currently, our trustees call me, I take a message, and
then call the people on our "phone calling tree" and give them the
message. They, in turn, pass the message on to the rest of the
residents.
We have a few problems with the way this works -- people don't bother
to relay the message, or,

MARSNWE -vs- SAMBA...
Here's the deal, I've got a SuSE Linux 8.1 server w/ Samba 2.2.5 running
on it. I cannot get an older multi-user database application to perform
the correct record locking if it's coming from a drive letter mapped to
the samba srvr. This program worked find off the old netware 3.12 srvr
that was replaced w/ the new linux box. After many many nights of messing
around w/ oplocks

SAMBA slower than MARSNWE...
I actually find Samba a very kewl server app so the subject isn't coming from
someone that has a preference for Netware over samba. My issue is actually
two-fold, one being the record locking problems in Samba and the other being
the slowness of dos apps in samba.
I'm not going to post any log messages here as I don't feel that for this post
they're really very relevant.

Netware server emulation on Linux
One of our group companies has just 'gone live' on a new laboratory
management package. Although the software is M$-based (ie: expects a M$
server at the heart of it), it is running with its core database on a
CentOS3 server using Samba for client access - in fact, the developers are
amazed at the performance and say it beats a Win2K/2K3 server 'hands
down'!!!
Anyway, the old lab

Website, book, paper, etc. that shows example plots of distributions?
By any chance is any one aware of a website, book, paper, etc. or combinations of those sources that show plots of different distributions?
After reading a pretty good whitepaper I became aware of the benefit of I the benefit of doing Q-Q plots and histograms to help assess a distribution. The whitepaper is called:

IP-less logging
I'm hoping this can get into 2.0...
On berkman, our Icecast2 server, we need to keep no IP logs of listeners
for their privacy (we also don't keep IP logs on Apache). I believe the
version we're currently using, from CVS a few months back, is properly
patched.
I'd like to see this become either a standard ./configure option or a
logfile option. Upgrading would become so much

Samba over IPX
I would like to add my case for a wish of IPX support in Samba:
We use a number of CNC tool machines whose host is pure DOS based.
Don't be surprised that DOS is stilll running somewhere. It is fairly OK
when we get to the field of HW and real-time control, unlike Windows and the
like...
These hosts use IPX to access LAN shares. IPX is here preferable to TCP/IP
because of its lower memory

samba and SMP
I've now tried 2.0.6pre2 with a SuperMicro P6DNF dual PPro as well as
the Everex StepDP/Pro dual PPro MB; same result,
large (more than 1 MB) file copies usually crash with only a message about
oplock errors in the logfile. Running a single CPU kernel works fine
(pre2 seems much faster, but I haven't done any testing).
2.0.5a does the same.

Help re speech software for the visually impaired
Hello Speex Development Team,
We have purchased many T-2000 phones from VAVAA ( Gold Score

Windows File Permissions
Greetings,
I just have a couple of questions. One is related to Samba specifically the second deals with Windows Networking, RSYNC, and Linux in general. I have asked it in the RSYNC mailing list, but so far no one has provided any insight.
I apologize if anyone has gone over this information. I have been unable to find much help in the mailing list archives, IRC, or the documentation.

Network disk? (like memdisk but over the network)
Hi,
I've successfully got DOS booting over PXE with Memdisk, but as RAM is
severely limited in the PCs I'm using (only 32-64MB) I can't load a huge
Memdisk image to run large DOS programs, Windows, etc.
Are there any programs out there like Memdisk, but instead of storing
the disk in RAM they read it over the network? (A "netdisk" program.)
This would be a really useful

Hello
I found that in this version, in the access log, the source log lines are wrong.
The number of bytes transfered for the source is always 19 bytes...

Samba on Linux with no ACL's is making things tough
Please for give me if this gets a bit long.
I am presently in the process of moving my company's file server from
Windows NT 4.0 over to Linux with SAMBA and the lack of ACL support in
the ext2 filesystem is making things very difficult to design. To
clarify I am NOT writing about Samba's support for NT ACL's on NTFS. I
am writing to possibly get some tips for getting around the lack
