Persistant Z drive in XP
Hello. New to SAMBA.(2.2.8 on RH9) Mixed environment of 98 & (trying)
XP. My "net use s: /home" command works wonderfully for XP and 98. But
XP throws in an "extra" "more home-than-home" directory - namely
\username\.win_profile on the Z drive. I've tried disconnecting it with:
net use Z: /delete, but XP claims to have a process running on it (even

XP SP2 connecting to 3.0.10-1.4E
I have been running our companies XP Pro systems on our Samba domain
controller (version: 3.0.10-1.4E) with local administrative rights up to
this point. Everything has worked fine.
We are getting larger now and I'd like to make the logins locally
restricted (I want them to have XP's "Users" rights and "Remote Desktop
Users" only). When I restrict the accounts

SMB Multichannel not working?
Hello,
I, like many before me, am having an issue with SMB multichannel. I am running Samba v4.10.16 (package is provided by Amazon) on an Amazon Linux 2 EC2 instance. I am aware that SMB multichannel is an experimental feature until 4.15, but the documentation states it is supported so I would like to evaluate it.
We have had reports of performance degradation when certain workloads (heavy

Migrating W2K Workstation to Samba Domain
I am replacing a W2K AD server with a Samba server. The server has
a single W2K Workstation client, in a public area and used by a dozen
or so different users. When I join the workstation to the Samba domain,
it complains that it cannot load a roaming profile (in the W2K AD domain,
it used local profiles), and it does not create a new local profile,
instead using a temporary profile.

W2K Workstation not reading NTConfig.pol
I have recently set up an small SAMBA network(just my
server and a W2K SP4 Workstation). My Server is acting
as a PDC. Everything seems to work flawlessly, users,
roaming profiles, netlogon script, etc... But I cannot
make this machine to read my NTConfig.pol file.
I have it at my NETLOGON share [/srv/netlogon] with
rwxr-xr-x permissions. I have tried with different
filenames (NTConfig.POL,

W2K Server and Workstation can't join SMB/LDAP domain
I have a SMB Domain set up with a PDC and BDC. The BDC is joined to the PDC
domain fine and shows up in the LDAP directory.
I can add and delete users to the LDAP directory. I can use the user
accounts to access the Linux boxes. My W2K boxes see the domain and domain
servers when browsing. I can access the shared drive on the PDC.
I cannot join the Windows servers to the domain. I get an error

Samba new server in existing domain/sever
Sirs,
I have Linux Samba Server with following "global" smb.conf file.
This server is acting as PDC with CAT domain name. We have window 2000 PC's connect to this server. We had changed some registry for win2000 PC so it can join the domain CAT. I believe that was required.
Now, my question is, can I set up new Linux Samba Serve even though I have one server acting as domain?

Samba as PDC. I have followed the instructions from :
http://sg.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch04.html
But, the problem is when I want to view the list of user (Figure

nobody logon but guest ok = no
I have an annoying problem with my new (and first) SAMBA PDC deployment.
Valid users are being connected to the root directory "/" of my server
as nobody. The only way you can discover the user is to troll the log
file.
Here is my config file as pertains to users:
[global] - encrypt passwords=yes ; wins support=yes ; security=user ;
domain logons=yes ; oplocks=no ;

WIN2k Log in problem to samba PDC
I am in the process of setting up samba as a PDC for a mixed computer lab of WINXP boxes and WIN2k boxes. The winxp boxes aren't having a problem, but the winnt/2k ones are causing trouble. They will join the domain okay and log in fine. After reboot however, they will no longer allow a user to log in and will say unable to log in because the domain COMPUTERS is not available.
Clues?
