Problem with win2k and winXP
Hello, I have a network, where users want to login with their same username from Windows 2000 and from Windows XP on a samba PDC. When the machines logon, I can see the OS in the logfile of the machine on my server, but i cannot use different profiles for Win2k and WinXP, because the %a in smb.conf always gives back Win2k. The profiles of win2k and winXP aren't compatible, so i can't just

Shorewall and CUPS printing interference
I''m having a problem with the Shorewall firewall and CUPS printing interfering with each other. My Linux firewall machine is acting as both a CUPS server and client for all of my tests. Shorewall 2.0.13 CUPS 1.1.22-2 Linux kernel 2.6.9 CUPS was working fine to print to my Epson C84 (network connected via a Netgear PS101 print server using lpd://PS101.IP.address/raw ) until I

This should not happen Nothing has been changed on the samba config in over a week and that change was about the spin lock time setting. The server is RedHat ES 3 running Samba 3.0.2. Microsoft KB835732 Update Disrupting Samba Connections
I'm not 100% sure it's that WinXP KB835732 update but it's the only thing that has been changed in the last two days. Machines are regularly losing their network connections, mapped drives, and printers, leading to lockup and crashes. I found this in the samba logs of the affected machines. JetDirect
Hi, WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now. The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago (within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you _MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??) This can be confirmed if you have an NT only shop. In the

Win'95 printer lock-ups & filters
Greetings all, I hope this is appropriate for this list, if not I'll take it somewhere else. ;-) Printer lock-ups: I have some printer shares available on my Samba server (RedHat Linux kernel 2.0.32, Samba 1.9.18p3) and they are working just fine in most cases, but from time to time the Win '95 client will either lock up while printing or send a print job samba & lpd don't like

one printer doesn't print under samba
I have a problem I hope someone can help with. I have TLS 6.0 set up to provide print services to Win98 clients using samba. There are two printers, an HP LaserJet 4050 and an HP DeskJet 950C, both attached to separate JetDirect 170 print servers. The HP4050 works wonderfully, no problems at all. The 950C doesn't work. The printer is available when browsing and can be installed on the

integrate print with windows, print administration from w2K/NT
Hi list, I'm working on a RH 7.2 non intel system which I'd like to do printserving for windows clients. I'm using samba 2.2.5-1 installed via RPM. Ideally the print administrator would manage access to the print-queues remotely from his win2k box. Am I understanding correctly, that if I hand-off user/group checks to winbind in my nsswitch.conf, that NT groups can be enforced

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Jet Direct Printers and Plotters
We have a HP Design Jet 650C Plotter which is hooked to the net via a jetdirect nic. Now I dont have a clue on how to use this plotter over the net. It doesent show up in the network neighborhood and I cant find anything about jetdirect plotters in the Linux documentation or the inet. The server is running Suse Linux 6.2 and Samba 2.05a. jetdirect printer configuration
I am trying to set up a jetdirect plotter in our network (samba server running un suse linux 6.2). When I start printing from on of the windows boxes everything seems fine but the printing files only show up in the spooling directories on the samba server. The plotter (HP Designjet 650 C) never receives anything. Here are the relevant parts of my smb.conf and my printcap file: PRINTCAP:

DNS and DC replication clarification
All, I configured two DCs (Samba version 4.5.5) replicating ad.corp.com in two sites ( https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Active_Directory_Sites) Following 'DNS configuration on Domain Controllers' section from this wiki https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory If I configure nameserver DC1 to be the first resolver for DC2, samba_dnsupdate

Designjet 1050C, JetDirect question
Any problems serving up this plotter with Samba 2.2.4? I am using RH 7.3, the plotter has a jetdirect card. I am not using samba print drivers, just passing it through raw to 192.168.21.50:raw1. Planning to let windows 98 clients use their own drivers. I couldn't get a job to print (from linux or windows). I ran out of time for today, picking up again on Monday. Any gotcha's I need to

printer giving Access Denied
I have 2 printer queues setup on my samba 3.0.6 NT4-style PDC. About a month ago, one of them stopped working due to an issue with CUPS. After restarting CUPS, printing to that share was giving Access Denied. From a windows box, I was able to add drivers and set default print settings as a domain administrator but I still couldn't print. I created a new printer share pointing at the same

IP printing to Jetdirect boxes
All, Hey hey, am new so if this is way basic, flame on. ;-) I have a Dell Poweredge 2300 running RedHat 6.0 and whatever versions of samba and such that are part of that distribution. Samb 'works' from the standpoint of file sharing and printing in a sense. The issue is that the printer is an HP Laserjet 4 connected via an external HP Jetdirect box running IP. HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello, I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers. I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba. I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module and assigned IP) with samba? Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made it work? FAQs tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is the server? Trust me, the HP doesn't know jack about port 139. Using samba 2.0.4 on Solaris 7 and NT 4.0 SP5 with

Slow printing to HP jetdirect from cups
I've googled for this and poked around linuxprinting.org, but couldn't find anything helpful. I have a CentOS 5 server with an HP LaserJet 4 attached via JetDirect with the hplip driver. The problem is that when I have multiple print jobs in the queue, there is a delay of about 15 seconds between each job. This gets very annoying when there are 10-15 one-page jobs in the queue.
