Mounting for non-root users
This has been asked before but the answers haven't worked for me.I upgraded from 2.2.7 to 3.0.0. I used to connect to Windows sharesusing smbmnt in .bash_profile as a non-root user having chmod 4755smbmnt. Now this doesn't work: - smbmount won't let non-root users run it (even after a chmod) - smbmnt says "Failed to find real path for mount point" - mount -t smbfs says

Domain Admin with tdbsam on 3.0.2a
Firstly I apologise for the length of this query but I am hoping that if I document everything I did someone might respond / be able to help. My Configuration is Samba 3.0.2a as a PDC on Redhat 8. I cannot for the life of me get the "Domain Admins" functionality to work I am hoping that another set of eyes can shed some light on this problem as I have now spent 41 hrs googling /

groupmap trouble
hi, i'm moving from nt4 to samba ( 3.0.7 on suse 9.2). I'm able to join the domain, and roaming profiles work. I used net groupmap to map unix to nt group, this way: System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1 Domain Guests (S-1-5-21-2839205766-3667556824-2828225164-514) -> nobody Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1 Guests (S-1-5-32-546) -> ntguests Power Users (S-1-5-32-547)

mapping well known groups problem (net groupmap)
Hi I have samba 3.0.14a (debian/stable) and wonder where the problem is that running this command: # net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=ntadmins rid=512 type=d gives: adding entry for group Domain Admins failed! but (note changed rid) # net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=ntadmins rid=1000 type=d works fine. Hm, winbind is not working, but I

PDC: Strange username translations...
Hi, i'm running a samba PDC on samba 3.0 and just had to reinstall the server because of a dead cpu causing corruption. luckily i had complete backups of the samba-files, so i copied them back to /etc/samba, /var/lib/samba and /var/cache samba. (tdb-files) i had one workstation (xp) removed from the domain and wanted to add it again, but then the station always gives me an error that i

Q about net groupmap examples on samba.org
Considering the following page... http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/guide/small.html First of, my compliments to John for some great examples to study. In my mind I see three levels of security: 1) Linux - such as SSH'ing into the Linux server, Linux accounts and groups come into play here 2) Samba PDC - "Domain Admins" "Domain Users" come into play here. Examples

Samba not honouring write/admin lists on shares
I'm running debian testing, so samba 3.05 atm. As of a few upgrades ago, which i think coincided with a library restructure or somewhat samba is no longer honouring read/write/admin lists on share definitions. Using the below share as an example, previously all users could access the share with read access, and those in the ntadmins group had write access. Since the upgrade users can only

How to make "Add permission" for folder in system withntacl support?
Hi! Let's go back to this topic please! I have to replace the Windows NT 4.0 server with Samba but I still don't know how to do this. I need to allow to someone (some user group) the right to add files into the folder. They use this "feature" on current NT server ver often and to this in the following ways: 1. Rightclick on file you want to add, Copy, then go to server, for

Unable to cancel print-jobs in cups-samba combination
Hi All, I am basically working on a product in which print-server is one of its functionalities. I am using SAMBA for sharing a printer which is connected to the hardware running Linux. I am running SAMBA and CUPS to manage the printing-options on the hardware. I am able to get prints when i give a print-command on the Windows PC which is connected via ethernet to the hardware. Also I am able to

Users can't pause or cancel print jobs
Hello all, I am running Samba 3.0.9 with CUPS 1.1.17. When my windows user try to pause print jobs it does not work and gives them an error "Error Processing Command" in Windows. If they try to cancel a print job it doesn't give any error. It just disappears from the print queue and print anyway. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks all Dominic Iadicicco

Folder Redirection, Roaming Profiles and Working Offline
Hi, I have been trying to use samba for a while as a way to have an identical desktop/startmenu/profile/favourites/etc on multiple PCs. Samba is setup as the PDC and I can join the domain and login. The problems started firstly when I wanted to have some sort of caching and also logon concurrently to different pcs with the same user. The main problem being that whichever computer I log off

Unable to cancel print-jobs with Samba+CUPS via WinXP
Hi All, I am working on a product(running on Linux with Kernel 2.4) in which print-server is one of the functionalities. For that I have integrated Samba and CUPS which will let me give print-commands from a Windows PC and the commands are communicated to the cups via Samba and finally the prints are done by the printer which is connected to the product. I have both CUPS(1.2.1) and Samba(3.0.22)

issue with adding machines to new domain
I have created a domain controller using samba 3.0.20. I following howto's from a couple of books and the samba.org site. I was able to use net rpc vampire to migrate the old nt4 domain user accounts, machine accounts, and trusts. However, now when I attempt to use add a new machine to the domain I receive and error. From windows I get: "The user name could not be found" When I

How to join a domain without using root?
This is part of a larger post that was maybe too complicated for me to get the right answer, so I'm breaking it down and will do it bit by bit. Server is Samba-3 PDC, clients are NT4 & XP. I can join the domain using root credentials (so the add machine script works), but not when using 'administrator'. unixuser 'administrator' has primary unixgroup 'ntadmins'.

Problem uploading printer driver in Samba 3.0.14a
Hi, I recently upgraded my Samba server from 3.0.2a to 3.0.14a running on Solaris 8. I made the assumption that all my printer definitions would be retained including driver information/files as long as the share containing all the files was still there. Although I still see the actual printers in the list of printers, it seems that they no longer know what drivers they use. When I attempt to

CUPS and Samba 3.0 - printers no show
Hi [Samba]s I have RedHat 8.0, and have installed a compiled CUPS 1.1.19pre4 and Samba 3.0 (latest this week from CVS). It all compiles and installs OK with CUPS support in Samba, but no printers show up (according to smbclient -L or from windoze) when "printing=cups" is used. It is OK if another form of printing is used, for example "printing=sysv". A reversion to Samba

Samba 2.2.7 as PDC causing BSOD on 2K domain logon
Hello, Have wrestled this one for about a week, now, getting frustrated ;-) Running samba as PDC for my domain (cf. smb.conf further down) When logging in on my 2K Pro machine, I first get a "can't find roaming profile, attempting local profile"-error, but logon using my user's smb account accepts only the correct password and so the identification part works well. Next,

CUPS cancel print problem
Strange problem here, whenever a job is selected by the user to delete, it disappears from the print queue visible from Windows (after press F5), but still remains in the cups queue. I've seen some mention of using disable spoolss, to fix problems like this, however, we have the printer drivers on the samba box. The configuration below is from our sandbox server, sandbox. The domain

On the fly Machine accounts
I have been trying for 2 months to get my samba server to add machine accounts 'on the fly" I have added both of these to my smb.conf add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 102 -s /bin/false Neither of these seems to do anything. I have around 250 computers to add, so adding the machine

Hello, I'm running FreeBSD-6.1, and Samba 3.0.22 with a Windows XP (SP2) client. As per subject line, administrator doesn't have administrator rights on the workstation. --- 'net groupmap list' gives, Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-3323006203-4037909810-1162086780-3003) -> ntadmins --- 'pdbedit -Lv' includes, Unix username: administrator NT username: Account
