computer name instead of username?
Hi,
Since the "Failed to verify incoming ticket" problem on Samba3.0.1, I rolled
back to 3.0. All the authentication and connection jobs are done successfully
for 3.0, and this time clients able to browse to the Samba. However, I keep ask
for the username, password when I access to any of the shared folder. The log
of client shows:

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members,
I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a
Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original
samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The
installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and
/etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed

Changing AD pasword
Running Samba3.0.2a in linux (Gentoo)
security = ads
Users are logging in fine (XP and W2K), using samba for file sharing and
printing.
We have (by corporate decree) a fairly short password life. When the
password is about to expire the user is prompted to change it during their
windows logon. I have seen mention of synchronizing the password with unix
but no mention of pushing it back to the AD

Full_Name: Joachim Geiger
Version: 1.9.0-1
OS: redhat 8.0
Submission from: (NULL) (194.94.233.87)
Hello,
the bug concerns the source-rpm of the 1.9.0 version on my redhat 8.0 system.
The specfile requires tk-devel for compilation, but on RedHat8.0 the headers are
already in the tk-rpm included. After changing tk-devel to tk, compilation runs
smoothly.
Best regards and thanx that U R to provide R

Slow response when using Msoffice
Hi,
Everytime I use MSoffice product such as Excel, Word and Powerpoint to open
file in Samba share, it takes very long time (at least 1 min) to browse, but
it has no problem on windows explorer, I guess it is waiting for some kind
of time out as it has no usage on the user CPU power. But not all of the
user got the same problem, and it seems most of the case are happened on
winXP. Any idea?

Call for help with Samba Printing and WinNT
Hi [Samba]s
This is a call for some generous people to try out the process of
installation of a Samba printer on WinNT and WinNT Terminal Server
Edition. I am working through Kurt Pfeifle's HOWTO on Printing and CUPS
printing in Samba 3.0, and finding some issues with NT/TSE. It would be
good if we had some confirmation or otherwise of these problems so that
Kurt can update his HOWTO (this is

WinXP allows login to expired/forbidden accounts
Hi,
I've stumbled upon this problem while trying to limit access to specific
machine to specific domain users. I did it by setting Samba to obey PAM
restrictions, and then using the pam_access PAM module ('account' clause)
to do user validation (described below).
On Win2000, this works fine - if an unauthorized user tries to login,
Win2000 says 'Account not permitted to

Solving two nonlinear equations with two knowns
Dear R users,
I have two nonlinear equations, f1(x1,x2)=0 and f2(x1,x2)=0. I try to use optim command by minimize f1^2+f2^2 to find x1 and x2. I found the optimal solution changes when I change initial values. How to solve this?
BTW, I also try to use grid searching. But I have no information on ranges of x1 and x2, respectively.
Any suggestion to solve this question?
Thanks,
Kate

3d plot
Hi,
I would like to have 3d plot, and I found that there is a command "scatterplot3d". x is V, y=sigmaV, and z=TSE (note: After some calculation, I update TSE). How could I do to have 3d plot I want?
V<-seq(1279,1280,,100)
sigmaV<-seq(0.28,0.29,,100)
TSE<-matrix(0, length(V),length(sigmaV))
ps: TSE[i,j] corresponds to V[i] and sigmaV[j].
Thanks,
Kate
