Simple lme/lmer random effects questions
Hello,
I have two very rudimentary questions regarding the random effects terms
in the lme and lmer functions. I apologize if this also partly strays
into a general statistics question, but I'm a bit new to this all. So
hopefully it'll be a quick problem to sort out...
Here is my experimental setup: I raised butterflies in 5 different
testing chambers all set to different

[How-To?] Using Syslinux AltMBR + TrueCrypt System Encryption (RFE: swap drive ID's)
Just achieved success using syslinux to multi-OS boot, including a WinXP
System (boot) partition that's been encrypted with TrueCrypt (TC).
You'll need syslinux version 3.81-pre13 or newer to get a working
altmbr.bin file. I used:

Hello,
I re-post my question from some days ago, as I got no reply..
Please let me know, if my question is unclear, or if I can do anything
to make answering it easier.
I appreciate your help.
Greetings,

stepAIC invalid scope argument
I am trying to replicate the first example from stepAIC from the MASS
package with my own dataset but am running into error. If someone can
point where I have gone wrong, I would appreciate it very much.
Here is an example :
set.seed(1)
df <- data.frame( x1=rnorm(1000), x2=rnorm(1000), x3=rnorm(1000) )
df$y <- 0.5*df$x1 + rnorm(1000, mean=8, sd=0.5)
# pairs(df); head(df)

pkcs and host keys
Hi Damien,
I see in your asia bsdcon presentation you mentioned the possibility
of storing host keys in PKCS #11. I'm interested in using a usb rsa
fob for host keys and am interested in this feature. What's the
current status? As you said: root compromise != persistent hostkey
theft.
THanks much,

Re: Possible compromise ?
Yeah but if you are uncertain about your own box my VERY STRONG advise
is that you reinstall. IF your host is indeed owned, then you are a lot
further away then just reinstalling, god knows what issues can arrise
when a cracker exploits the system to do bogus tasks..
Then i say: Too bad for your time, sorry but it's like that

Speex WBB decoder on AT91SAM7S microcontroller?
Hi,
I would like to compile the Speex fixed-point, WB decoder for an
AT91SAM7S256 ARM7 microcontroller using gcc-arm-elf and was wondering,
before I roll up my sleeves and try to figure out all the autoconf
things that I'm really unfamiliar with, if anyone else has done this and
can share their experiences.
I see in the archives that some folk have compiled for this processor
before but

Need help modding src.rpms to generate complete SAMBA AD DC binary RPMs for CentOS 8
When RHEL8 and CentOS8 were released, I was looking forward to setting
up SAMBA as a AD DC server for CentOS8. But when I lifed the hood on
the samba.spec file I found the option to build the samba-dc binary rpm
has been disabled for rhel family builds.
Apparently Red Hat does not want to support a unified SAMBA AD DC
environment. I believe we have all of the componentns needed to set up

1 should be 2. huh?
There''s another quirk I wanted to bring up. It''s about the failure
message with should_equal and should_be.
x.should_equal 2
a.should_not_be nil
When they fail they yield messages like:
1 should equal 2
nil should not be nil
When I''m caught off guard, which can be often, these messages confuse
me. 1 should equal 2? No it shouldn''t. nil should not be

You just let Asterisk do the fax detection for you, and when it hears CNG,
send it to the fax extension, and your fax extension would just Dial() one
of the IAXmodems (using IAX)

isolinux puzzle
Peter,
Thank you for isolinux. What a relief to be rid of floppy images!
ISOLINUX works great except in one puzzling instance.
I recently upgraded my system with a Promise Ultra 133 (PDC20269)
controller. In order to boot from either the hard drive or CDROM drive
connected to this controller I set the boot device in the motherboard
BIOS to SCSI. Everything seemingly works great.

Quicktime + FLAC?
I bought myself a PowerBook and hoped to play my FLAC-encoded library via
iTunes. Alas -- it doesn't work.
My understanding is that iTunes uses QuickTime for playback; does anyone
know where to find a FLAC codec for QuickTime?
I noticed that there was some discussion about this ~1 year ago on flac-dev.
Did any dev projects get underway, or should I roll up my sleeves and give
it a go?

RFE to extend "LISTEN" directive to support host-colon-port (as single token)
Cheers all,
A recent discussion in the issue tracker brought up the idea to allow the
`LISTEN` keyword to also accept a single "host:port" token (e.g. if there
is only one argument, with at least one colon, and the last colon is
followed only by numbers, split it into host and port) :
https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/issues/2424
I see certain pros to the idea (may be more
