Samba not honouring write/admin lists on shares
I'm running debian testing, so samba 3.05 atm. As of a few upgrades ago,
which i think coincided with a library restructure or somewhat samba is no
longer honouring read/write/admin lists on share definitions. Using the
below share as an example, previously all users could access the share with
read access, and those in the ntadmins group had write access. Since the
upgrade users can only

[ISSUE] Honouring Silent Caller ID Numbers
I am not sure how this works in other countries, but in Australia -
according to Telstra - the caller id is managed by the terminating
device which is the telephone. If the caller id has been flagged as a
silent number then generally the caller id is not display, but rather
display with an alternative message 'Number Withheld' or 'Private' or
whatever.

Bug? * not correctly honouring tag on To?
Hi Mark,
Current CVS, * isn't correctly remembering the tag added to the To header
by a server.

dovecot-acl-list not honouring owner / permissions that are set on dovecot-shared
Hi,
I've just upgraded our dovecot installation from 1.0.15 to 1.1.13.
This went smoothly and just worked -- thank you very much for writing such
a high performance and robust piece of software.
However, we have a shared mailbox that people can subscribe to. After
upgrading to 1.1.13 ... dovecot tries to create a dovecot-acl-list file in
the top level of this ... but it creates it

Why isn't Samba honouring UNIX permissions? [NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED]
Classification: NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED
Solaris 9
Samba 3.4.5
I know this isn't the sort of query that gets much response but I'd be
really grateful of any advice people can offer.
I'm getting really fed up with Samba as I've never been able to make it
work properly. Either I'm missing something basic (probably) or it just
doesn't behave in the way I think it should!

Help/Advice needed
I have a Solaris 11 build server with build 58 and a zfs scratch
filesystem. When trying to upgrade to build 63 using liveupgrade
I get the following upon reboot. The machine never comes up. Just
keeps giving the error/warning below.
Is there something I am doing wrong?

Repeated Indexing / Sequence Operation
Hi Everyone,
quick question before the end of the year.
I have soem indices to select data from a bigger sample. I want to select n
days before each index and n days after the index. Any clever way to do it.
A for loop would do but I wanted to know if there is a moreR-friendly way to
approach this
Example
# InitialIndices
i2 = (90, 190, 290)
# Indices I want to end up with
i3 = c(85, 86, 87,

Rsync 2.5.5 hangs for no apparent reason
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this email.
I'm using rsync to make a copy of my Netbackup Catalogs
to an offsite server for DRP. I have narrowed the problem
down to a few sub-directories that contains 16 directories
each and in each directory there are about 37 files. None
of the files are larger than 300MB. In fact, most of them
are around 1K-5MB. The problem is, rsync

Recovering a broken mirror
We have a production SunFireV240 that had a zfs mirror until this week. One of the drives (c1t3d0) in the mirror failed.
The system was shutdown and the bad disk replaced without an export.
I don''t know what happened next but by the time I got involved there was no evidence that the remaining good disk (c1t2d0) had ever been part of a ZFS mirror.
Using dd on the raw device I can see data

rsyncing a r/o-permissioned tree?
Hi, i have a question about rsyncing a tree which is largely
permissioned for read-only access(444/555, etc.). I have a production
environment which is mostly kept in r/o to make it harder to screw up,
but parts of it are sometimes manually worked on (in emergencies,
etc.). I need to maintain a remote mirror of this, and I would like to
do it with the same permissions as production, but I've

R 2.0.0 not suffisantly reliable to be be used
After wasting one whole day, I've finally decided to stay with 1.9.1,
some problems have been reported to R-Bugs.
For occasional users, I would say, there's no worst thing than that:
you installed the new release, and soem of your existing codes no
longer work !

winbindd will not connect to samba pdc
I'm trying to migrate to a Samba PDC from an NT PDC. Right now I'm
testing whether a Samba member server can effectively grab user account
info from a Samba PDC.
Both the PDC and the member server are vanilla, no-frills Redhat 9
machines, the PDC is running Samba 3.0.9 and the member is running
3.0.11. I've followed the instructions in the Samba HOWTO for setting
up winbindd, that

NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
Hi,
Since I don't have access to AD to add uidNumber & gidNumber attributes, I
used the second idmap config set. I also reverified the net ads testjoin -
Join is OK.
Still can't ssh from domain accounts and can't *write to* the share from
Win10 or Cent, but I *can* now see into it from Win10 or Cent.
I think my remaining issues are outside Samba, but suggestions/advice still

avoiding timconsuming for loop renaming identifiers

I was wondering if I can avoid a time-consuming for loop on my 600000 obs dataset.

There are, say, 143 different schools in this 600000 obs dataset.
I need to thave sequential identifiers, 1,2,3,4,5,...,143.

how to import db
I''m just starting out learning. So far, all I''ve done is little test
apps starting from scratch -- ie, ones in which rails creates an empty
database, then I make up some classes and views and controllers and
such. Nice system. But what if I have an SQlite database file created
elsewhere: (how) can I import this into ruby "easily"? I have not
tried yet because it just
