Hiya,
i have had a HTTP directory tree shared out via SMB on my HTTP
development server for a few years with no trouble. recently however
various files have started becoming read-only as far as my Win2k machine
is
concerned. upon ssh-ing into the tree in question i find all the
permissions are fairly open and i cannot see why i should have any
problem at all.
i have attempted chmod-ing in various

multiple smbd/nmbd on one machine
Hi everybody,
hope my question is not misplaced :)
I have an HA-Cluster (RHEL 4 update 3, Veritas Storage-Foundation
4.1, samba Version 3.0.10-1.4E.9) an have to run 3 different smbd/
nmbd on one machine.
So my smb.conf looks different for each "service", and is also stored
in a separate folder.
(Structure is:

delete file problem with samba
I am running samba 2.2.8a on FreeBSD 4.8. I installed that from the FreeBSD
port tree.
In IE, when I try to delete a directory which contains subdirectories in it,
it will pop up a Windows dialog saying that,
Cannot remove folder foldername: Cannot find the specified file.
Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.
However, if you click on the Okay button on that Windows error dialog

Samba errors
I appologize if this has been answered previously or if the answer is
obvious. I have done the best I could searching through the mailing list
archives and through google to see if I can find an answer to my problem.
With that said, the problem is that whenever I use my connection to samba
(3.0.23c on FBSD 5.4) from my Windows XP (Professional, SP2) machine I
receive these errors:

Machine account being rejected
I have been running Samba at home as a fileserver for a long time and I
have now been changing it to a PDC (later I want to try switching it to
an AD server as a learning experience prior to doing the same on a
server in work, which is already a PDC).I have got it to the point that
it logs onto the user account but not the machine account.
The local machine is called asus, the user account

Greetings list,
I am about setting up a domain controller in a little company, so I choose
samba (debian lenny) and I did it against openldap. Everything seems to be
ok in the server but when I try to log in (windows client) I have a bizarre
output: it said that my profile will not be saved. And after that when I try
to connect to virtual machine running in the same computer, it doesn't work:

Samba 3.0.2 PDC, reinstallted box fails to rejoin domain
Hello List
Samba Version :3.0.2 (Debian Woody)
Kernel Verion :2.4.27
I had to reinstall a Windows XP-Professional-Box at work. When I got to
the point where you
add the box to the domain, it wouldn't let me to. (I also disabled the
settings
in secpol.msc)
I deleted the entry in smbpasswd using smbpasswd -x -m trick$, added it new
and still the same problem. (The UID are right)

Samba3+samba-vscan+clamav = A big headache.
I just installed samba3+samba-vscan via ports on a FreeBSD 4.x system.
Samba is running just fine and thanks to the help of webmin it was
easily configured. Today I finally was able to get windows shares to be
mounted on my FreeBSD server. So naturally I want to run av scans on it.
I set it up to mount the entire C drive and to scan it using clamav
which is also installed from ports. I recompiled

Connection by peers
Our Samba work very bad!
My some users can't save changers in Exel and Word files.
We have file-server ( Linux RH7.3, kernel 2.4.18, Samba-2.2.7a-1)
We local network consists of 500 computers with NT Domain Controller
(Win98,Win2000,WinXP,Microsoft Office 2000).
The user opens a file, he changes it and sometimes can save a file, and
sometimes no. Why?

slow directory access, convert_string_internal: Conversion error: Incomplete multibyte sequence
I think the issue may be related to the broken trusts. First of
all only two people had specifically reported issues which meant for
most people it was acceptable. Then I noticed that some directories
seemed slower than others.
If I ssh'd into the server and checked permissions, listing permissions
on most directories was quick (under 2 second.) On directories that
