Problems writing to a mounted CIFS share
I'm currently struggeling with a cifs mount from a windows 2003 server. The share can be mounted with mount.cifs, but despite using the rw mount option, the mountpoint can only be accessed read-only. Trying to write on the share results in a permission denied error. This happens on a 2.4.21 kernel with the shipped CIFS kernel module.
The mount command used is:
mount.cifs

problems with multiple linux boxes hitting WIN2000 shares, cifs cifs-1.20c-2.4, linux 2.4.27 kernel
We have a cluster of webservers running smbfs mounts.
I switched one box to cifs, 5 shares pointing at a Win2000,
Monday 11 Oct - a week ago. The box ran fine all week.
It is a moderate use production system - /proc/fs/cifs/Stats
reports several hundred thousand SMBs in a week.
Today I switched another box in the cluster to cifs.
Immediately both boxes began spewing errors like:

Asterisk SIP Microsoft Outlook Integration
Does anyone know how I could integrate my Asterisk setup with Outlook so
that when I click on a phone number is my outlook address book it will
dial the number and ring my SIP phone so that I can just pick it up? I
am interested in this integration for WinXP with Outlook 2003 and
WInVista with Outlook 2007.
Thanks,
Michael

Samba & Active Directory - Login from non Domain Machine
I have Samba running on debian etch using winbind and my windows 2003
active directory infrastructure. Everything works find. I have one
issue.
I cannot connect to a share from a machine that is not on the domain.
If I try to connect to the share from a windows xp box that is not on
the domain that the samba server is in, I am prompted for a username and
password. If I put in my domain

Samba write errors, broken pipes and client lockups
Over the last few weeks I've had problems using Samba on a FreeBSD.
Windows XP clients (that's all I have) would experience intermittent
long delays (lockups, freezing) when accessing the samba shares using
Windows Explorer or any other applications. This occurred both directly
when browsing the network neighborhood, and when accessing the share
through a letter drive mapping.

Lockups after Asterisk upgrade
Hi
We've recently updated our Asterisk 1.0.x installation to 1.2.4. Since this
upgrade we're experiencing sporadic lockups of our Linux server. By lockup I
mean no response from network-traffic or keyboard-input. However, the kernel
seems to be running as it responds to SysRq, and NMIs.
If we terminate all processes using "SysRq + E" the machine instantly gets

Total lockups using ext3
For several months I have had frequent lockups using 2.4.x kernels. They
began with about 2.4.10 and have continued down to 2.4.17.
They always occur when I am online, downloading. The moden stops, the
hard disk light is on, and no key works. They never happen with 2.2.20
or with earlier (i.e. pre-ext3) 2.4 kernels, and they never occur on my
laptop with any kernel, including those using ext3.

Solution to my Grandstream lockups
Like many others on this list, I had been experiencing periodic
lockups with my Grandstream products (Handytone 286 ATA & BudgeTone
101). The lockups consisted of seemingly dead devices, no dialtone or
response, until I power cycled via software or hardware. The
workaround had been to reboot the device every 30 minutes with a cron
job. I contacted Grandstream and although they didn't

Group Polic Software Install Packages located on SAMBA share
Hi All,
I am running debian etch and samba 3.0.24. I have it configured to for
krb5, winbind, and ads. Everything is working perfect as far as
accessing shares, authentication using AD logins. I have one issue. I
have some computer group policies on my AD server to do various software
installs. The msi and files themselves are hosted on a share on my samba
server. The software installs

Windows Graphics Device Lockups with Rterm
I've been using Rterm with ESS to run R for some time. Recently I've
experienced lockups when displaying graphics; the first display seems to
work, but then refuses to respond and must be killed with dev.off(). Rgui
has no problems. I've tried eliminating all other processes that might cause
conflicts, to no avail.
I'm using win XP and R 2.9.0. Here's a transcript using rterm:

[PATCH v2 0/2] fix "perf top" soft lockups under Xen
v2:
- fix compile issues if no CONFIG_SMP, Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk
- move inc_irq_stat after irq_work_run
These 2 patches fixed the "perf top" soft lockups under Xen
reported by Steven at: https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/2/9/506
Both Steven and I tested it and "perf top" works well now.
The soft lockup code path is:
__irq_work_queue
arch_irq_work_raise

Steam Client Lockups
I've not had any (uncommon) issues with the Steam client before but my new Notepad is having a rather major issue at the moment.
The Steam client seems to start up (and shows the small connecting Window) but then hangs there for several minutes. Terminal output looks normal:
Code:
enverex at bahamut ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam $ wine steam.exe
