AW: WinXP Profiles
This worked. I am just having trouble with the profile I copied over to my
server. It seems like something got screwed up in the copy over. My
desktop and Start Menu, well all my windows as a matter of fact look like
win 2k instead of xp. And none of my settings I configured before I copied
it over came over.
The profile is fine until I copy it to my server. I tried it on a bunch of

WinXP Profiles
Does anyone know how to edit smb.conf so that a users profile won't be saved
upon log out? Or how to get it done any other way?

AW: SAMBA 3 as PDC - W2K/WXP Pro logon trouble
Oh, so you are using ldap..., well I'm still working with smbpasswd as
backend :-(
Anyway, I tried 'net getlocalsid' for the domain-sid -> ok
Next 'net usersidlist' which should show me the user-sids -> didn't
work: "[2004/03/04 06:40:05, 0, pid=31232, effective(0, 0), real(0, 0)]

User can delete file when they have no read/write access
Im haveing a problem with my profiles share on my Samba 2.2.3 PDC server.
I have a share like this:

[Old] Clients cannot login into Samba-Domain
I had a working "Samba-2.2.7a-SuSE" domain (with roaming profiles,etc.)
but this server crashed. So I copied the samba directory with the config
files (including secrets.tdb, passwd, ...) from my backup to the second
server and started nmb and smb, but the Clients could'nt log onto the
domain. The error was something like: "You couldn't log on. Please check

samba roaming profiles not working
I've been at this for hours now and am still not getting it to work.
I've been through the lists trying to find an answer and so far as I can
tell, everything is configured OK. Obviously it's not, but I'm stuck.
I recently installed Squeeze on my home server, overwriting a Lenny
installation. I've been able to add my NT (Windows XP/Pro) domain
accounts back in and pdbedit

ndiswrapper and 4K stacks problem (system freezes)
Hi Folks,
I'm trying tio install WLAN - USB - Stick Netgear WG111v3.
ndiswrapper -i wg111v3
works.
I can see ndiswrapper -l
wg111v3: driver installed
device (0846:4260) present
But after modprobe ndiswrapper the system freezes.
Troublshooting on ndiswrapper-sites says:
It's a problem of "kernel is using 4K stacks (CONFIG_4KSTACKS)"
Solution: recompile the kernel.

root ownership on some profile files cause login errors
Here's another question related to how to use masks --
In my PDC area I specify:
logon path = \\netapp\profiles\%u
This puts server-based (roaming) profiles on my Network Appliance (which
itself is an SMB/PDC client).
A previous admin here left this commented section:
#[profiles]
# path = /var/lib/samba/profiles # path = /netapp/profiles ???
# read only = no

Moving roaming profiles between domains, risky?
OK, now i've to start to move the big part of my users from my old
NT-like domains to my new AD domain.
I've setup roaming profile in the new domain following the wiki
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Roaming_Windows_User_Profiles, 'using
windows ACL') and for new profiles works like a charm.
But i've tried to move/copy old profile to the new domain, and seems

The domain-login ist ok in general. But when a user logs in, he gets

Troubles on Roaming Profiles...
I don't know if is relevant and maybe is the same as GPO that you've
created, but Ive a profiles folder with this configuration:
[profiles]
path = /server/share/profiles
read only = no
browsable = no
Other options are on my smb.conf global section so is the same as your
configuration.
Next I've changed the profile path on the user configuration instead use a

Moving roaming profiles between domains, risky?
Hai,
Sorry for the late reply, but yes, this is a risky move.
Did you make sure this the DOMAIN SID's are exact the same between old and new servers?
This:
rsync -av --progress --xattrs --rsh=ssh
Does not copy the (windows) acl's.
Look at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Bidirectional_Rsync/Unison_based_SysVol_replication_workaround
Howto to this with rsync and unison, the
