Samba members in NT4.0 to AD upgrade
Hi, I've got an NT4.0 domain that I'm planning to upgrade to Active Directory. I've got a couple of Samba member servers in the domain, various versions above 3.0. So I have two questions: 1. Are there any gotchas with this scenario or will the Samba clients just keep working as NT4-esque clients. 2. Is it possible to "upgrade" a Samba member server to be an Active

Printing Setup
I have two Ubuntu Linux installations, one 9.04 and one 9.10, both with WINE 1.1.31. I have a networked printer, an HP Photosmart C-5100. Aps in WINE on the 9.04 machine print perfectly. Nothing prints in WINE using the 9.10 install of Ubuntu. when I check the printer setup I see this: STATUS: Dummy State TYPE: Dummy Type WHERE: Dummy Location COMMENT: Dummy Remark Oh, I can print fine with

LPR or LPRng or CUPS
I'm converting my NT 4.0 Print Servers to Samba Print Servers. Which printing system should I be using? LPR, LPRng or CUPS. I would love to have some feedback on the advantages and disadvantages or what the Samba Team recommends as a standard for working wih Samba. In case you need it, my system is SuSE 7 kernel 2.2.16 running under VM on s/390. Thanks, Josh Konkol, CNE MCSE Senior

unlink data file in cups_job_submit
With samba-2.2.5, cups-1.1.14, and printcap=cups, I find that I have to explicitly clean up old print data files in /var/spool/samba with a cron job. With a traditional LPR, we use -r to tell lpr to remove the file for us after the file is spooled. With cups, we send it over ipp, and I think we should then unlink the data file ourselves. Does this seem right? --- print_cups.c~ Thu May

Nasty kernel panic
I have seen the following kernel panic 5 times today on three different machines, two of which had been stable for months and one of which is a brand new install. We are running the x86_64 xen kernel and userland tools that came in the Xen 3.1.0 tarball from xen.org, on top of scientific linux (redhat clone) 5.1 or 5.2. <Aug/28 12:21 pm>Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at

Linux workstation can't print to Samba printserver
I'm trying to configure a Linux workstation to print to my Samba printserver and can't figure out what I'm missing. Both are running CUPS. Windows clients print fine to the Samba box. Any ideas?

Remote printing problem
Hello list, I am trying to set up a remote Epson printer with a Epson print server attached. I am using IPP and when setting up a print queue from system- config-printer, I am unable to print a test page. I get this error: There was a problem sending CUPS test page to 'remote740' queue: lpr: error - unable to print file: server-error-service-unavailable I can however print a test

File Lock Timeout
Hi, I've seen posts (but no answers) about clearing a file lock on a Samba share. Presumably this kind of thing happens when the program abnormally terminates and doesn't close its open files. I've got a file that smbstatus reports as: 1216 DENY_WRITE 0x20089 RDONLY NONE /shares/share1/Files/december.xls Fri Jan 12 12:51:30 2007 Trying to open this in Excel

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is

CUPS driver for Panasonic DP-2330 printer?
Can anyone point me to a possible source of a linux cups driver specifically for this machine or to a work-alike driver for a similar piece of equipment. Failing this, does anyone have any suggestions as to any open source software guys who might be willing to develop one for a fee? Regards, P.S. I have already googled, yahooed and sniveled on other venues in search of an answer. -- ***

Samba config
Hi I?m having difficulty configuring Samba running on FreeBSD. Samba version is 2.2.8a. The scenario is that we have an NT4 domain and I am looking to migrate the printers onto Samba. All of the printers are connected via print servers, mainly HP JetDirect. As far as security is concerned I am happy for guest/anonymous logon as the server will only be used for printing but I have set security to
