getent does not get remote users
I have a samba 3.0.2a -server running Linux, which I try to set up to authenticate users from a NT4 PDC using winbindd. Now, everything works to the point, where I try to list users with "getent passwd". Getent only gets the local unix-users and has no clue about the NT4 -users. Also, home directories for the NT4 -users are not created and no logs whatsoever are left behind by the

3.0.1-member-server-printing
hello list, after successfully playing around to get a working samba 3.0.1-PDC-LDAP-Suse9 configuration a new challenge takes place : scenario: suse9 with samba 3.0.1 as a member server in a NT4 controlled domain. winbind works as expected (thanks to documention authors). There seems to be no problem with file sharing, ACL is working properly (I'm using xfs filesystem). :-) so, now the

Please assist with Winbind issues!
Hello, I've been trying for a couple of weeks now to get Samba to authenticate via Winbind to an NT domain. I've scoured Google and the mailing lists to no avail. I've tried various configurations that I've found during my searches, but none of them have worked for me. I need to be able to authenticate users, that do not have an account on the Linux box, against the NT domain,

Automating kerberos authentication on Mac OS X?
Is there any way to "automate" kerberos authentication on Mac OS X? Here's the problem: When a user wants to access samba-3.0.2a -server from a Mac, he/she has to run "kinit" to get the principal ticket. If this is not done, Mac's tools (Finder) will try to authenticate with NTLM, which is and will be disabled on our servers. Of course, this fails miserably. I

SUMMARY: Getent does not get remote users
The problem was solved. Thanks to Stefan G?nther for help and for providing a working smb.conf excerpt, which helped to trace the problem. It turned out I had configured samba just right. The problem was, that samba was not compiled with ldap -support and winbindd simply did not ask for users from the active directory domain controller. This was due to the fact, that Gentoo Linux ebuild did

validate root locally with winbind
I have set up winbind successfully, but every time I need to perform any task as root, winbind tries to login via the domain server, which gives an "incorrect password" error. Is there a way to set things up so that the root user is only checked against the local passwd/shadow files? -- Ramon Casha Malta Linux User Group (http://linux.org.mt)

UNDI packet driver?
Hi all, I'm still trying to figure out a good way of booting a DOS disk image via PXE and accessing files over a network share. Having some success with the Microsoft network DOS client, it seems that many programs have issues with its IPX support - so, now I'm trying to use Novell's IPX driver instead. Unfortunately it seems I need an ODI driver to do this, and there are no

Using memdisk to remotely flash BIOS
I am using memdisk to remotely flash the BIOS and other firmware. It works well for most flash programs. After the flash I need to initialize the NIC to send a signal to my management server that the flash is complete. I am curious as to how others have solved this problem. Thanks.

dovecot and ntp: Fatal: Time just moved backwards
Hallo, I am running dovecot on a PC (a workstation) to have a mail client independent storage for my mails. Now I would like to have the system clock set correctly by using ntpd or ntpdate (using debian/sid). The problem is, that the PC is not online at boot time, but is set online on demand manually using "pon" to start the pppd later. So ntpd cannot sync the time on boot time

Hello, I am having a problem with my dovecot-daemon. It is forking one or more (I saw up to perhaps 8 of them) imap processes under my user name.
