getent does not get remote users
I have a samba 3.0.2a -server running Linux, which I try to set up to authenticate users from a NT4 PDC using winbindd. Now, everything works to the point, where I try to list users with "getent passwd". Getent only gets the local unix-users and has no clue about the NT4 -users. Also, home directories for the NT4 -users are not created and no logs whatsoever are left behind by the

How to enable both remote and local users?
Is there any way to enable both local (/etc/passwd or smbpasswd) users and users authenticated remotely by winbindd? I have a problem with samba-3.0.2a not recognizing local users at all, if winbindd is enabled (and vice versa, of course). However, I'd like to have local users take precedence over networked users, i.e. samba would let in a user, if he/she is a local one and only ask the

Automating kerberos authentication on Mac OS X?
Is there any way to "automate" kerberos authentication on Mac OS X? Here's the problem: When a user wants to access samba-3.0.2a -server from a Mac, he/she has to run "kinit" to get the principal ticket. If this is not done, Mac's tools (Finder) will try to authenticate with NTLM, which is and will be disabled on our servers. Of course, this fails miserably. I

Change password via rpcclient?
Is it possible to point rpcclient at a samba PDC and change the user's password? With rpcclient I can "logon" to the PDC as someone with admin privilages (to do adddriver, etc..) from a remote machine. smbpasswd -r seems to provide no similiar functionality.

3.0.2a: SID, User Enumeration
I'm runninng samba 3.0.2a on a few machines, ADS security mode, domain member roles. I throw nessus at it, and it can fetch the SID and then list all of the users on the system. I view this as a security problem, is there a way to prevent this?

Security Hell
I have been trying to setup two samba servers on Fedora Core 2 for the past 30 hours and am about to jump out a window. I'm simply trying to create a few shares that multiple WinXP clients can have readonly access to and a select few have write privilages. Also, a few shares that are are private for a select few users with write privilages. In all cases, anybody should be able to browse the

troubleshooting a custom passdb module
Greetings, Is there any tips/docs on trouble shooting a custom passdb module? The module compiles and can be loaded without problems I can even access shares with my username and password. When I try to assign privilages so our tech members can join computer to the domain, I get a error message. Even with level 10 dumps it is hard to see where the problem is. Our user database contains all the

Nessus test issues with open shares
Hi, My name is Joseph Villa, I'm new to the message boards and I'm also new to Samba. I just got an e-mail back on our Nessus scans.. Here are the 2 that are relivant.. 1.) The remote host has accessible LOGS$ share. ScriptLogic creates this share to store the logs, but does not properly set the permissions on it. As a result, anyone can use it to read the remote logs. Only the first copy is printed and the rest don't get printed. 2) My spool directory is getting filled up and I would like the job removed after the print job is finished I've

[LLVMdev] Gentoo ebuild of LLVM
Hi guys, there are few issues concerning LLVM and Gento Linux below. 1. Gentoo encourages to think of smarter packaging. Oversimplified, but... there are at least three audiences using LLVM: - application users - developers *using* LLVM in their projects - developers *changing* LLVM sources. Application users are not interested in LLVM, they are rather interested to have their favorite

libshout, ices, and icecast2 CVS Ebuilds
All - I've just posted a set of ebuilds (package format for the Gentoo distribution) in my web space. I figure I'm not the only one hacking on icecast that uses Gentoo and these haven't made it into the main Portage tree just yet. To use them, place them in the following locations underneath a Portage overlay directory (i.e. /usr/local/portage): icecast2-cvs-2.0.ebuild into

Permissions
Hi Group, I set up samba3.0 to work as ADS-Member-Server. I created a share called /test and chown group to gg_test to it. Access to share works without any problems. I also can add files and directories to this share. When I now make ln -l, the files I added got the group-permissions "Domain Users" and not gg_test, as I expected. Do someone know a solution? Thanks in advance.

getent passwd problem (please it's quite URGENT)
Hi, My ultimate goal is to use this samba installation as a member server without having to maintain NT user accounts on the samba box. I have installed samba-3.0.1 in three Red Hat 9.0 machines installation went through fine. My configuration options for Samba were the following: ./configure --with-winbind --with-winbind-auth-challenge --with-pam --with-acl-support --with-ldapsam
