No error on change to password below configured length
Hello!
Our users change their passwords using the original Win2K password
change mechanisms (Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Change Password). If one of the users
changes his password and the new one is shorter then 5 characters it is
rejected. This appears in the logfile and that's OK so far but the users
don't get notified. They think the password has changed and use the new
one.
Why is that? Could

SAMBA 3 as PDC - W2K/WXP Pro logon trouble
I have a Samba 3 PDC running with an LDAP backend on Red Hat 8. All
authentication appears to be working correctly but I can't login to the
domain from a W2K or WXP Pro workstation after I have successfully joined
them to the domain. If I login locally to the workstation I can browse the
Samba shares just fine. I have checked the schannel and sign or seal
settings on both the workstations

Samba Update Newbie Problem
Hi
I'm quite new to Linux and now I've got a problem with installing the Samba
3.0.2 RPMs on my SuSE 8.2 system.
I deinstalled the older version of Samba and tried to install by using the
rpm -i command.
After successfully installing the client and documentation RPMs i get the
following errors:
pcy23:~ # rpm -i samba3-winbind-3.0.2a-30.i386.rpm

WinXP Profiles
Does anyone know how to edit smb.conf so that a users profile won't be saved
upon log out? Or how to get it done any other way?

Roaming profiles on a small network
Hi list,
I intend to run an old pentium 133 as a linux-based fileserver on my home
network (I have to use windows for my main machine and laptop!) Im having
great diffiuculty synching the data, email, etc on my laptop and desktop, so
I thought I might configure samba to act as a DC and use roaming profiles to
make sure that my data is always synched. My question is this: is it worth
the effort?

AW: SAMBA 3 as PDC - W2K/WXP Pro logon trouble
Oh, so you are using ldap..., well I'm still working with smbpasswd as
backend :-(
Anyway, I tried 'net getlocalsid' for the domain-sid -> ok
Next 'net usersidlist' which should show me the user-sids -> didn't
work: "[2004/03/04 06:40:05, 0, pid=31232, effective(0, 0), real(0, 0)]

AW: WinXP Profiles
This worked. I am just having trouble with the profile I copied over to my
server. It seems like something got screwed up in the copy over. My
desktop and Start Menu, well all my windows as a matter of fact look like
win 2k instead of xp. And none of my settings I configured before I copied
it over came over.
The profile is fine until I copy it to my server. I tried it on a bunch of

When WinXP users login to the samba domain a text file opens that contains:

This seems to be tied to the roaming profile, it only surfaced once I

[Old] Clients cannot login into Samba-Domain
I had a working "Samba-2.2.7a-SuSE" domain (with roaming profiles,etc.)
but this server crashed. So I copied the samba directory with the config

server and started nmb and smb, but the Clients could'nt log onto the
domain. The error was something like: "You couldn't log on. Please check

Error copying folder with desktop.ini
Hi,
I have some issues to copy a folder which includes hidden desktop.ini to a samba share using Windows 8 Pro RTM.
Every time I copy a folder which contains a desktop ini with the LocalizedResourceName attribute, then Windows copies
the file and immediately tries to copy the file again and therefore asking whether the file shall be replaced or not.
My desktop.ini is copied from a Windows 8

Win10 to Samba as NT- PDC needs 3 settings
Upgrading Win7-32 (connected to Samba as NT-PDC) to Win10 requires
- disable HardenedUncPaths (MutualAuth & Integrity)
- install NTVDM
- enable LegacyConsole
otherwise the logon-script in Netlogon does not run,
even if samba.cnf contains "server max level = NT1"
Is Samba as NT-PDC supposed to handle HardenedUncPaths?
Did I miss that I should have enabled that somehow in smb.conf?

Here's another little problem I'm having. When clients log onto the

anyone know what this is and how I stop it from popping up?
TIA

How do I compare 47 GLM models with 1 to 5 interactions and unique combinations?
Hi R-listers,
I have developed 47 GLM models with different combinations of interactions
from 1 variable to 5 variables. I have manually made each model separately
and put them into individual tables (organized by the number of variables)
showing the AIC score. I want to compare all of these models.

and different number
