Good News, ou=computer works! :-)
I'm just storing machine accounts under ou=computer,ou=site,dc=domain,dc=com and it works. Tested with W2K sp2 and W2K sp3, recreating from fresh ldif 2 times were never failed. Im sure it is 'stable' right now :-) 'works' means it was able to add machine trust on-the-fly, or using manual creation with smbpasswd command. The key is in not to use

secrets_fetch_trusted_domain_password
It apparently samba stored trusted info on secret.tdb so only samba PDC was able to retrieve this info, am I correct? (though trust account waqs stored in ldap). I can't browse samba BDC from (trusted) NT domain, it always ask for username/password again. samba domain = IRSJKT NT domain = DOMJKT msg from samba BDC : [2004/03/18 21:16:42, 5] auth/auth_util.c:make_user_info_map(216)

Log user log-offs
Does anyone know of a way to log when a user logs off using Samba as a PDC. I have Samba 3.0.2a and can log log-ons using root preexec on a share all users mount, however I do not know of a way to log log-offs. We need this data for record keeping purposes. We don't use roaming profiles, so using root postexec is not an option as shares disconnect when not in use. Thanks for any help,

Manual creation of machine trust and comments on Samba books
I just receive a copy of the official samba 3 howto, to be honest i'm rather disapoint with the content and layout. Well with free online version, i can't complaint, but with 'paid' version maybe i can complain to the author :-). Most of the contents are still the old documentation with few 'little' updation for samba3. Imo, its better if it can be rewrite from scratch

I am at a loss to find out why my posts to this list never show in my in-box while everybody else's does. I verified my options in my profile for this list but no luck yet. What should I do ? Could you please reply to me so I know that my post is at least read by you, John H Terpstra. I have done my reading, struggled with Samba 2.2.8a and the smb.conf file on a HP box and verified quite a few

[Samba/LVS] Howto, coming soon ...
Hi all, I've built an LVS architecture for Samba PDC to get load-balancing for very large community of users. It intends to make an authentication processes repartition, offers load-balancing on shares access as well. I'll try to complete a draft for the end of next week. All feedback will be really helpful. The account is not authorized to login from this station.
I'm in the process of upgrading to Samba 3.02a on a file server and I'm trying to finish all the configuration and testing. When I try to access the server through network neighborhood I get the error message that is in the title of this email, what are the possible causes for this? I've got encrypt passwords set to no when this happens. If I change that setting to yet, I get a

Two WINS servers on different subnets
Hi If I connect two LANs (on different subnets) and want to use windows filesharing, I need a WINS server right? Can I have one server on both subnets and make them "talk to each other" ? The problem is that the two networks are connected through a VPN tunnel and I don't want to place a WINS server on just one of them in case the VPN tunnel is lost. I want the subnets to work

Réf. : Re: Réf. : Re: using a master ldap server and a slave ldap server for one samba
If the first LDAP server faild, the second can be used directly. This server is a PDC server with more than 100 people connected and some application required domain authentification for running. For me is a critical server. ----------------------------------- St?phane PURNELLE stephane.purnelle@corman.be Service Informatique Corman S.A. Tel : 00 32

Sigh. I’ve been through like 5 mailing lists and got trolled off each one. Let’s start simple
A secure macro It’s like static but well optimized. Any ideas how I can implement it universally? I thought about a secure application to help with compiling and security. It’s like sudo but more secure and can chain. I don’t know much about pipes and streams, but I’m pretty sure I can write it into llvm with enough time and help. Another thing, and I got trolled off gcc’s mailing list for this,
