Samba as remote file share
Hello,
I have a client who is hoping to use Samba over the internet. He hopes
to be able to setup a single mount point that can be used by employees
from various locations via their broadband internet connections. The
clients will be a mixture of Linux, Windows 98, and Windows 2000/XP
machines. I know that a solution like this would be possible if all of
the clients and the server were on

Giving up on authentication to trusted domain
I've pretty much decided that this doesn't work, but I'd like to
take this last opportunity to find out if ANYONE has a working
configuration like mine:
Samba server: v2.2.3a running on a RedHat Linux 7.2 system, plus
Winbind. The Samba server is in the PHS-SC domain, and can be
browsed from "My Network Places".
User "cbenson" has an NT account in the FHCRC domain

Windows 2008 terminal services with a samba PDC
Dear,
My windows 2008 terminal server doesn't find the terminal license server
when I add the windows server to the samba domain. The license server is
installed on the same 2008 server as where the terminal services are
installed on. When the windows server was still in a workgroup, then he
found the TS license server.
I'm using samba 3.2.14-40 and on the windows server 2008, the

NT user name doesn't match unix username when winbindd is running
We are testing winbind and security=domain to authenticate NT users on our
UNIX box in samba (v2.2.3a). Winbind is working correctly. Wbinfo shows
users as domainname+username (we are using "+" as the separator), however,
the NT usernames aren't automatically mapping to their corresponding UNIX
usernames as expected. Perhaps I don't understand how this is supposed to
work?

Windows 2000 and XP Password
Hello All
I have been using Samba for a few years now with Windows 95 and 98
clients and have never had a problem at all. Recently I had to administer
a new network with Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional
clients. I am finding that both of these clients will not cache the network
password for very long. I find that if I reboot the clients through the day
they remake the

HP proliant and hpasm
Is anyone successfully running asterisk on an HP proliant while using
their management software, hpasm?
I have two DL360's and two TE220B's. The cards have their own IRQ's.
No matter what combination of settings I use, the cards fail the
patlooptest if hpasm (ver 7.9.1) is running. If I stop it the cards
pass the test.
I really want to run the management software, so I'd

problems with changing Unix UID's and Samba acting as a PDC
I am using samba 2.2.1a in the following environment:

The samba server is used as a PDC for authentication with the NIS server.
We don not have a windows server.
Recently I was asked to change the Unix UID's of our employees.
On the Unix side you modify NIS and run the chown command on all the
users files. I than

Update Samba - Build RPM or install it over existing version?
hi
as the subject already tells you:
is it better (and "cleaner") to build samba v3 always as RPM and install
it or - in case of an update of samba - simply overwrite the existing
version with "configure && make && make install" ?
normally there aren't too many changes in the paths of the
install-scripts, so that all (old) samba files are correctly
