Meaning of "smbstatus" display
Hello.
I'm wondering about what smbstatus of Samba 3.0.2a display. When I run
"smbstatus --processes", I see that some "entries" from the lower
"services" list are not present in the upper part of the list.
Why is that so?
Let me give an example. In the smbstatus list below, I'm concerned about
these entries:

Hmm, all of a sudden SWAT started to respond. Now when I try to access

Problmes joining Samba server to Active Directory
Hi.
I've now been told the name of our Kerberos server for the Active
Directory that I'm trying to join my Samba 3.0 alpha 21 to.
As described on
http://techupdate.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t481-s2122363-p2,00.html, I
configured /etc/krb5.conf like this:
[root@ugkbase samba]# cat /etc/krb5.conf

net rpc group addmem returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi All,
I'm trying to add a user to a group using
/usr/local/samba/bin/net rpc group addmem room11 dunk -Uroot%password
The user is added to the group as far as I can tell but the command
returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
This is on Solaris 10 (Sparc) and Samba 3.2.1, OS and Samba are both
configured to lookup users and groups in LDAP.

Changing AD pasword
Running Samba3.0.2a in linux (Gentoo)
security = ads
Users are logging in fine (XP and W2K), using samba for file sharing and
printing.
We have (by corporate decree) a fairly short password life. When the
password is about to expire the user is prompted to change it during their
windows logon. I have seen mention of synchronizing the password with unix
but no mention of pushing it back to the AD

kerberos ticket expired
Hi,
Does the kerberos ticket useful after added the computer account into
win2000 domain? Since I find that even the kerberos ticket expired, Samba
still work. Does that mean I can simple destroy the ticket right after
Samba init?
Samba3.0.2a on Redhat8.0
Thankyou.
Best Rgds.,

Dear All,
I am running Samba3.0.2a Domain. For some unknown reason, the printing ( 3
laserjets running) were mal-function and no-one included the admin account
couldn't send out the print job. While I went through the log, I have found
the following:

samba 3.0.24 + openldap + solaris won't start up
I have been planning for some time to change our systems over to
openldap. This morning was that time and for the most part things
went as well as expected. Except for samba.
my test systems worked. I moved things to the production server and
it won't start up. As far as I can tell I have done it all the same
(save the SID, etc) but smbd won't start.

RES: squid authentication to samba 3
Yes, it is. I've made that some times...
After having the Samba infra-structure running (winbind -u, winbind -g,
winbind -a), you need to create some ACLs in squid.conf, take a look at:
http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-23.html#winbind
To check group membership you can use wbinfo_group or LDAP, I had some
problems setting wbinfo_group with Samba 3.0.2, that's why I use LDAP. If

My Ldap database keeps on corrupting..please help
Hi everyone,
I'm using Samba3.0.2a, Openldap-2.1.30 for authentication and about 150
Windows XP computers as clients.
I was able to join all my XP clients to my domain. But for sometime now,
my ldap database keeps on corrupting for an unknown reason when a lot of
my users log in to my PDC... Can anyone help me find the reason of this
corruption or has the same problem that I have? Please

[Old] Clients cannot login into Samba-Domain
I had a working "Samba-2.2.7a-SuSE" domain (with roaming profiles,etc.)
but this server crashed. So I copied the samba directory with the config
files (including secrets.tdb, passwd, ...) from my backup to the second
server and started nmb and smb, but the Clients could'nt log onto the
domain. The error was something like: "You couldn't log on. Please check

Hi Folks,
I'm trying to run samba on Solaris 9. It works OK when I don't compile in kerberos and ldap, but when with those two compiled in, smbd seems to freeze (nmbd and winbindd are OK). After a bit of investigation I notice something strange in truss:

3.0.22 on solaris9 does not start as daemon
I'm trying to start smbd (samba 3.0.22) as daemon (smbd -D
--configfile=/etc/smb.conf) on solaris 9 sparc with current recommended
patches but the smbd process never returns from trying to become a daemon.
Samba was built with ldap, (heimdal) kerberos and active directory support
using gcc 3.3.2 from sunfreeware. Solaris 9 is a new install on a
development
machine with production patches.
