Upgrading LDAP entries from 2.2.7 for Samba 3 not happening
We have been using samba 2.2.7 for awhile now with ldap no problem. We are
ready to move to Samba 3 though, and this is where the trouble begins.
We do not have a domain set up. We have a few samba boxes and they just use
the ldap servers to get their passwords from. (no roaming desktops or
anything like that.)
I did a bit of reading up and see that I need to run the convertSambaAccount
script

"easiest" way to write an R dataframe to excel?
I am using R 2.11.1 in a Microsoft Windows 7 environment.
I tried using WriteXLS, but get the message " In system(cmd) : perl not found"
What is the "easiest" way to write an R dataframe to Excel? (I am familiar with
WriteXLS, but I do not have PERL installed, and if not needed, do not wish to
install it.)
I am also familiar with write.table, but if possible, wish to

Checklist for eDirectory back-end?
Aren't Friday's wonderful! I've just been hit up with a request from
management to install Samba on our Solaris 8 UNIX servers to share out
information to the windows PC's. This wouldn't be an issue if the
backend was Windows AD but in our case it's eDirectory. The shares also
need to be seamlessly accessible to eDirectory based groups/users
without interfering with the

re: Spatial stats: R vs. Splus
Hello,
Could someone tell me whether the spatial statistics module of
Splus is worth the rather high price, or whether one could (with
reasonable effort) carry out the same things using R and some of
its contributed packages.
Although we do have Splus (Windows and Unix), we definitely prefer
to use R whenever feasible (both for research and teaching).
Thanks for developing a superb

loading a package within R, in a MS Windows environment?
I am using R 2.11.1 in a Microsoft Windows environment. Is there a way to load a
package (e.g. the zoo package) using only "written code", not menus or mouse
clicks?
The "code" below code brings up the "Select One" [package] menu. I just want to
automatically load the "zoo package".

[Bridge] Any way of knowing a packet's been defragmented
Hello,
Due to a recent change in the bridge code, we now need a way of knowing if
a packet has been defragmented. The bridge code now checks on the packet
size and drops packets that are too big for the output port. Defragmented
packets will get refragmented later, so they shouldn't be dropped.
I've been reading the defragmentation code and can't find an easy way of
knowing if a

convertSambaAccount from non-PDC to non-PDC
I've been using Samba 2.x authenticating UNIX and Samba users to
OpenLDAP 2.0.x fro quite some time. Now I need to upgrade OpenLDAP to
2.2.x and Samba to 3.0.x. Although I've been using OpenLDAP with the
old samba schema to authenticate Samba users, I did not have a PDC set
up. Now when I try to use the convertSambaAccount script to move to the
new Samba schema it says "You

Security checklist for new Centos server?
Greetings, everybody
I've browsed around a bit, but there seems to be no single practical
list of this kind.
What would you do to make a new Centos server which must run apache,
IMAP (Dovecot) and SMTP (PostFix) and nothing else for a few domains
as secure from attacks as possible, using only standard RPM packages
as much as possible?
(Please note that choice of other IMAP and SMTP servers

Adding Windows servers to a Samba PDC network
Hi everyone.
Just wanted to ask a question here.
We are running RH 7.3 as our samba PDC. Everything is working great and im
really enjoying the setup.
However, we need to add two Windows 2000 Adv. Servers to our Domain because
of software that we run on this.
I probably already know the answer, but I figured I would ask this anyway.
The default account on the Windows servers is

AD integration checklist
Hi,
I compiled Samba 3.0.23d on a CentOS 4.4 machine. Then I configured
/etc/krb5.conf for my domain. Was able to successfully run kinit and
join my Windows 2003 domain with a net ads join. Net ads user and net
ads group returns the users and the groups of the domain.
So far so good.
I'm kinda stuck on the next step. I would like to grant access to the
share defined in smb.conf to anybody

using read.table, removing extra quotation mark from a text field? (e.g. ""cat" )
I am using read.table to import a text file within R.
There are several "errors" in my text file. An "extra" quotation mark has
inadvertently been included within a few text fields.
e.g. for a pipe (|) delimited text file, I have something similar to this:
1|7|30| "dog"
2|6|25| ""cat"
3|4|20|""
4|5| 56| "mouse"

dual-head patch from IDEALX / Master/Slave LDAP
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a master-slave LDAP-SAMBA configuration.
This is from smbldap.conf:
#Notes: to use to dual ldap servers backend for Samba, you must patch
# Samba with the dual-head patch from IDEALX. If not using this patch
# just use the same server for slaveLDAP and masterLDAP.
So ,is it enought with setting up the folowing directives in
smbldap.conf ? :

Authentication: Dovecot -> Vpopmail - > MySQL with one table per domain
Hi All,
I am using Dovecot 1.0.13 with Vpopmail (Qmail
Toaster current) backed by MySQL with one table per
domain (--disable-many-domains) . What I cannot figure
out is how to have Dovecot authenticate to Vpopmail
when Vpopmail uses one table per domain. Basically I
need dynamic SQL in the Dovecot-sql.conf file.
Currently I have:
password_query = select pw_clear_passwd as password

informal conventions/checklist for new predictive modeling packages
Working on the caret package has exposed me to the wide variety of
approaches that different authors have taken to creating predictive
modeling functions (aka machine learning)(aka pattern recognition).
I suspect that many package authors are neophyte R users and are
stumbling through the process of writing their first R package (or R
code). As such, they may not have been exposed to some of the

DID IT! - Samba 2.2.8a+LDAP+PDC
I am so stoked I just had to share this with y'all.
I just "SEAMLESSLY" migrated all of my machines and users over to my new
Gentoo Linux Server.
I even kept the same: domain name and old PDC NetBios name.
The trickiest part was getting all of the users to keep their same
profile, but I managed that by cloning the RID and Lanman/NT hashes for
the user accounts.
Free at last!

samba-3.0.0 release won't authenticate
Hello,
This is the 3rd time I'm sending the message.
I've just upgraded from samba3-alpha23 to samba3.0.0 release. I'm
running samba with an LDAP backend and I used the convertSambaAccount
conversion script, and now the latest 3.0.0 ldap schema. The problem I
have is that no Windows user can authenticate against their home
directory, or any other machine. Authentication against the
