FW: smbmount question
Nevermind...need to read the whole msg... I didn't notice you were installing WINS on the NT box...hence the reboot. Standard practice for Winxx: 1. Install, reboot 2. Update, reboot, repeat.... I support about 25 pc's-it annoys the hell out of me how MS manages updates. How many Internet Explorer security updates have there been so far this year-22? Each one of them requires a

Samba in a WAN Environment
Brevard County is about 70 miles long and 20 miles wide. We have many small sites around the County that will eventually have their current servers replaced with Linux/Samba servers. We've been successfully running a test Samba server since January and I'm convinced of it's stability and usefulness ... good work Samba Team and Linux in general. Other than for the test Samba server,

smbmount question
Hi, I'm running Linux 2.2.2 w/ Samba 2.0.2, using the smbmount that comes with Samba 2.0.2. I noticed that when I mount shares, smbmount sticks around, almost like a daemon: [root@jason /root]# smbmount //XXXX.gatech.edu/XXXX$ "XXXXXX" -U jkau -c "mount /mnt/cnd" < /dev/null > /tmp/smbmount.out [root@jason /root]# ps ax | grep smbmount 10678 ? answering machine screening with MixMonitor
I'm using asterisk 1.8 as an answering machine. I'd like to hear the calls it answers aloud in case I want to pick up and interrupt the call. There are a few articles describing, for example, three-way calling a monitor phone set to auto-answer, but I couldn't find anything that described how to just send the audio to a local speaker. I am currently using MixMonitor to append the

Building a view for a 3 model has_many relationship
I''m working with three models: - Charge. has_many :budget_plans - BudgetPlan. belongs_to :charges, :rollups - Rollup. has_many :budget_plans This works out perfectly. A budget plan contains the ID of a charge and rollup and then there''s a 3rd attribute for hours. So working with data is no problem. My budget plan scaffold works nicely so I can select a charge, select a

Using MSDFS
I've set up a dfs share according to instructions. There is one part of the instructions that I don't understand. I've checked the forum archives but can't find any examples which might help. In the Instructions section (4.1 of the HTML Samba Project Documentation), is shows how to set up the symbolic links in a DFS share, as shown below. I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2).

INTERNAL ERROR Report
I have read the BUGS.txt file, used 'testparm' (successfully), and run through all the steps in DIAGNOSIS.txt. I don't see any problems that those tools have identified. The BUGS.txt file indicated that INTERNAL ERROR was almost certainly the result of a bug. I'm hopeful I have sent you the information you need. Let me know if there is something more I need to send. What

Fw: INTERNAL ERROR Report
I realized that my choice of options for grep did not do a very good job of including the last error message before the INTERNAL ERROR. I've included it in this email. Sorry. create_policy_hnd: ERROR: too many handles (1025) on this pipe. Off Subject
Pardon me for asking this general question with regards to Samba but I've been searching and haven't found a source that would answer my question. Is there some site, list, etc, that lists companies, schools, etc, who have volunteered information that they use Samba in their day-to-day operations? This would be of great interest to us as it would show Linux/Samba to be a viable

And route print? Do you have any servers on the WAN? (or is everyone connecting to the servers THROUGH the WAN?) Can you see the samba machines at all in network neghborhood? What happens when you type in the UNC of a samba server manually? (i.e. \\SAMBASERVERNAME) I hope I can help you, and I'm trying, but I'm not a samba guru. -Dan PS. Samba3 HowTo
For John Terpstra: Just got your new book from Amazon. All I can say is: VERY GOOD!!! Can easily recommend it for anyone, especially those of us who just want to make better use of Samba but aren't Linux gurus/code commandoes! I wouldn't begin to know how to contribute anything, but I'll certainly continue to buy and learn from such good material! Thanks, Marion D. Haines

Samba with winbind trouble
Hello, I try to implement a samba server (2.2.7a) with the authentifiactions via winbind to a PDC W2000. Misleading error message when case-insensitive file/dir names from config files clash with case-sensitive file system.
Hi, Is it noted somewhere that Dovecot (v 2.0.9) doesn?t use case in directory names in its config-files? I found that out the hard way (i.e. a week of debugging)!! in /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-master.conf, the line: unix_listener /var/spool/postOut/auth/dovecot-auth { creates a: Jul 29 22:15:58 server dovecot: master: Error: service(auth): unlink(/var/run/dovecot/) failed: Is a directory but

Best way of dealing with Case-Sensitive Issues in Dovecot
In order to deal with case-sensitive issues, I am thinking to use the variable %L (adding it to my current configs --as suggested before by other users in this list) in the configuration files in this way: In Dovecot.conf: mail_location = maildir:/vmail/%Ld/%Ln/Maildir:INDEX=/indexes/%Ld/%Ln auth default: username_format: %Lu passdb: driver: sql args:

Case Sensitive Problem in SMBFS mount
Hi, I am using Redhat Linux 9.0 on one machine and Windows XP on another machine. There is a folder named "Test" on WinXP which is mounted on my linux machine using mount -t smbfs //servername/Test /mount-point. Everything is working fine and I am able to get into this folder. My problem is when I am trying to access Test in linux using " cd test", I am able to access it

Case sensitive validate_uniqueness_of isn't working
Hi, validate_uniqueness_of has the option :case_sensitive, this option is true by default, there are tests to check that :case_sensitive => false is working, but there isn''t any test to check that, when set to true (the default!), is working, in fact it doesn''t work at. There isn''t a database agnostic way to do a case sensitive search, there is in myql (binary like)

[PATCH 0/3] Handle NTFS 3g case sensitive Windows paths in the daemon
In the current Perl library we have a function called resolve_windows_path which handles the useful [for Windows guests] case where we need to resolve the true, case-sensitive path behind a case-insensitive Windows path. For example, a Windows path like "C:\Windows\System32" can be presented to Linux by NTFS 3g in a variety of ways, eg: /WINDOWS/system32 /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32
