Printers Always Paused - A Solution
I had a problem with Samba 2.2.5 with the printers being
permanantly paused to Windows machines. They could print OK - it
was only the status that was wrong.
The reason for this was because I had used the word office in the
printer name / comment. This was causing the parser which
recognises the printer status to find 'off' pausing the printer.
A quick fix for this is to replace the

Ext3, Lots of Files, Slow performance
A recent thread has hinted on slow performances on large
directories (thousands of entries) on the ext2/3 filesystem. I
appreciate that the answer is to store these directories on a different
file system or to reorganise the way you store the files into
subdirectories.
I'd just like to ask has anyone done any tests to determine
approximately what the limit is before slowdown occurs.

Custom smbprint script for testing
Hello there,
I've produced a modified version of the smbprint script that comes
with the samba source.
The script is aimed to retry sending the print job if the windows
machine is switched off at the time of printing (samba seems to just
drop the print job after a period of time if the machine is off). This
script will mail you to tell you the machine isn't turned on yet and if

Oplocks, Oplock_break and request Oplock_break
Hello there.
I'm having a few problems using samba 2.2.3a and sharing a paradox database. On the whole
everything works fine but (there's always a but), every now and again. a machine's shares will
close causing the database to crash (sometimes only that machine) - the other networked
machine recover after a few error messages.
I guess the easy answer would be to disable oplocks

Having issues with rpcclient's adddriver
Hi,
I'm trying to add a Windows NT/2000 OKI C5100 print driver to a Samba
2.2.3a server. I've been told that this driver does some server-side
stuff, so I'll have to use 'adddriver' in rpcclient.
I've read the manual page for rpcclient, and I printed out a 'Windows
2000 Printer Test Page' to get all the relevant information.
This is probably just something

Apache auth failing for Active Directory group members
On my web server, I have a .htaccess file set up to restrict access to a
folder for specific Active Directory users. The Active Directory domain is
imaginatively called "AD". Using 'require user ad\brian.cochrane' in
.htaccess works great. 'require group "ad\domain users"' also works.
However, 'require group "ad\_it"' does not work. The

I sent this message to the list yesterday, but I believe it was before I had
fully joined the list...so I'm not sure if it got through. My apologies if
this is a repeat.

ADD Printerdriver to server through APW
Hi
I recently tried to install the printerdriver to the samba server (samba
3.0alpha30 on debian) from a windows 2000 client.
The APW asked me for a Win2k-server cd for the winnt drivers, although
i had them on a disc...which I don't have
2 Questions:
1) does anybody know why the APW will not accept my winnt driver from
the driver disc when i comes to install the winnt driver
2) is it

Memory leak in Samba with APW printing configuration ?
Hi,
On Samba 3.0.2a on debian stable with a 2.6.5 kernel, each time I use APW to
configure my printers, smbd takes more and more memory and the kernel does an
Out of Memory (I have 512 Mo RAM). It's Xerox printers.
Is the problem known (and corrected in 3.0.3rc1) or is it new ?
Thanks for the answer.

APW Permissions Issue
SuSE 8.2 with Samba 2.2.7a, smb.conf is at end. (Hostname=outside)
This box runs VMware with a Windows 2000 client configured as a
workgroup member (hostname=RNOME-W2K). I created a Linux user account
for the W2K machine, edited etc/passwd to add a "$" at the end of the
username for the machine, and added the machine account and my user
account to the Linux ntadmin group.

No matter how I try to use the RPC calls, whenever I try to add a new printer to a my Samba 2.2.5 server I get an "access denied" error. I am running on RH 7.3 and have patch everything including Samba with the patches from Jerry's patch folder. My user has full

I did the usual,

installing printer drivers through APW problematic
Hi,
I'm part of an organization managing Windows clients with a couple of
GNU/Linux servers.
We're having some trouble configuring our Samba 3 Debian Linux server.
It's just a domain member with authentification done with a Windows AD
Domain Controller, it's supposed to be our new print server.
The printers have already been set up for lprng.
Whenever trying to add a driver to any

Package ‘orcutt’ bug?
Hello~
Did any one have used the package 'orcutt' ?
I find that it can not work smoothly in a single variable regression. I use the example following, it function very well.
But when I regress "cons" on "price" (use the "reg1<-lm(cons~price+income+temp)") , then use "reg11<-cochrane.orcutt(reg1)
". There is an error message “Error in
