Fwd: machine account with strange behaviour
Hi Oliver, My opinion is that try delleting the machine name using the 'control center' and delete the machine account in the passwd file. Then add the machine name again using "control center, edit & creat users ", then In console add the machine using: # smbpasswd -a -m <machinename>. Note i managed to do this on SuSE 8.1. Please send me an email if u're

Samba 3.0 - LDAP create machine account fails
Hello, It's me again. I'm running Samba 3.0 and LDAP 2.1.23 on a RedHat 8.0 system. I am able to browse shares and home directories. I get a: Logon failure: unknown username or bad password when I try to connect a W2k machine. For Win/95/98 the system already works. I believe it is setup OK I need to work on scripts that work with MMC. I just want a basic connect a w2k machine right

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future, there will be Linux clients. I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a

samba-3 trustdom AD (mixed mode) problem
Hi, I want to get my SAMBA-3.0.0 domain to trust W2K AD (mixed mode) both ways. I don't want to make my samba box an AD member, just trust it. Samba-PDC uses ldap as passdb. winbind isn't used. WINS server is running in W2K PDC server. Also created a machine account entry to LDAP base, set samba I flag. Here we go (using mmc @ w2k PDC): I add my samba domain to "Domains trusted by

strange BDC Behaviour
Hello everybody I am running two Domaincontrollers PDC and BDC both with an LDAP Backend (Master and Slave) and another samba fileserver FS1 who is a Domain Member. We have about 180 win clients (W2k and XP) on the network. We are also running a w2k terminalserver (TS) with about ten clients hooking up to it. We are running a login script assigning shares automatically to the clients. The

samba+ldap machine account bug workaround?
Hi. I've used Samba for years, but just this week I decided to try to figure out how to use it with LDAP. I've got everything working to the point that I can now log in on a W98 machine, but not on a W2k .. problem with the machine account. I understand that there is a bug which has been fixed in 3.0.11, but Debian/unstable still uses 3.0.10. Is there a work-around, as in manually

CUPS printers not visible, strange behaviour
Hello all, I've done this before before so I'm a bit confused, but I've upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0.4 on a debian woody box (samba 3.0.4 from backports.org). I also have cups 1.1.20 backport as well. I've set up printing using cups (should be simple right?) but no printers appear when I browse the computer from a W2k machine. rpcclient -c "enumprinters" gives me "No

add machine account with sudo instead of root account
Is this possible to add machine account from several different tech user accounts. What I have been reading on the Internet sounds like it is possible. In my smb.conf file I tried to do it like this. add user script = /usr/bin/sudo /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g ntmach -c 'Machine Account' -s /bin/false -M %u The reason I want to do this I use sysprep to automate the installation

machine account locations
OK I'm confused. Can machines be in ou=Computers,dc=somewhere,dc=net ? Every thing works fine if I configure so that machine accounts are created under ou=Users. If configured for machines to be in ou=Computers, I can't add a new machine. Error returned is "The user name could not be found." This is from the w2k machine itself. The release notes for 3.0.11 seem to say adding

machine account not accessible
Hi, I'm setting up a PDC, but joining the clients (w2k, nt4) fails. I use this in smb.conf: add user script = add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u Just using the script I get the error: "no account in domain" under linux. Useradd itself works but it seems to fail for samba. All clients originally used a nt4 PDC. Now this nt4 PDC must be
