rc3 net groupmap add fails
Relevant part of "net3 groupmap list" is
System Operators (S-1-5-21-1617713866-2789119093-1479812082-1007) -> sys
In howto there is the following example
net groupmap modify ntgroup="System Operators" unixgroup=sys
net groupmap modify ntgroup="Power Users" unixgroup=sys
You can add System Operators but trying to add Power Users fails. If you do it in reverse

How do I get Winbind accounts in LDAP?
I've seen this posting before but I need to get a grasp on this. I am
using winbindd for users that don't have a local account on a Linux box.
I thought that placing the entries below in the smb.conf would create
users in ou=Idmap. Instead the ou=Idmap increments the uidNumber with
every user that is added, but the user ID mappings are stored in
/usr/local/var/locks/winbindd_idmap.tdb. What

samba 3.0 with ldap / sambaSID
Hello,
I'm lloking for a way to convert my company's existing samba2.2 ldap
backed service to samba 3.0. What's particulary making me curious is the
sambaSID. As I've read it is the unique identifier of a PDC in the
windows world. So, how does samba3 generate this? Is it supposed to be
changed by the admin or is it determined by samba on the first startup?
Any pointer to a doc

Back to 3.0.1, Winbind and Solaris 9
I've gone back to 3.0.1 to try and get winbind to work with my Solaris 9
machine and NT4 domain. Everything works except user authentication. The
wbinfo and getent commands do what they are supposed to.
I've included a truss of 'su - ganguly'
According to pamlog, the user 'ganguly' has been granted access but it is
still hanging.
How do I do a truss of a telnet login?

NT4-Samba Migration Test Results
John,
We previously corresponded on our testing of Samba 3.0.0 RC4. Since
then,
we have downloaded the Samba 3.0.0 Release version for testing with some
interesting results.
The Setup
Major Networks: Solaris (NIS), Windows Native NT4 Domain
Our Test Plan
We are testing Samba 3.0 as a candidate for replacing the old NT4
Domain.
Being a complex production networking environment, we replicated

Samba Winbind and LDAP backend
Just a quick question, it may sound a bit stupid but I just want to make
sure.
I have a Solaris 9 machine running winbind, the backend is an OpenLDAP
database running on a RedHat 9 machine.
My question is, apart from the 'smbpasswd -w' command and the obvious stuff
in smb.conf, do I have to set up the LDAP client on Solaris for Samba to be
able to put new mappings into the LDAP database?

Samba 3.0 and LDAP as a PDC
Hello all,
I hope this is an easy one, I've read all the howtos but I'm still very hazy
on how to do this. What I want to do is replace my NT4 PDC with a Samba 3.0
PDC with an LDAP backend.
I've got my OpenLDAP up and running with the basic People, Computers and
Groups ou's.
I've put the builtin NT groups in too.
I have Samba 3.0 functioning as a BDC
The trouble is

"getent passwd" doesn't list domain users
__________________
Hi all,
I've configured samba 3.0 as a domain memeber in NT 4.0 domain.
Server has been added to the domain, without any problems, BUT, for three
days...., I'm not able to find a way how to use NT domain resourses for
this samba server. I can list domain users and groups with "wbinfo"
command from but "getent passwd" lists only the local

Patch to Samba 3.0.1?
Dear list,
Is it sufficient to patch my 3.0.0 install to 3.0.1 on my Solaris 9 machine?
Or do I have to recompile the whole lot from scratch? Does the new version
put all the files in the right places, e.g. pam_winbind.so and
libnss_winbind.so? (I think the HOWTO still says you have to copy these to
the right places and make links if you want to use winbind)
I'm just wondering whether it

One last try...winbind Solaris 9
I'm still stuck on the logging in part of winbind on Solaris 9. I've
applied the required patch to the OS that is mentioned in the HOWTO and
tried various other things. When I login at a command line console with a
NT username and password I get a message (I've configured syslog.conf)
saying that I've been granted access by pam_winbind but that is as far as it
goes. I get no

Solaris Winbind LDAP pam_mkhomedir.so
Dear list,
How do I test whether I have access to my winbind LDAP backend from my
Solaris 9 machine? My LDAP database is held on a Redhat 9.0 machine also
running Samba 3.0.0.
I know winbind works because getent and wbinfo show up my NT users and
groups.
I would also like to have people log into my Solaris 9 machine with their NT
usernames, I have this working on Redhat already but Solaris is

Samba 3.0.0-2 WINS Static entries
Hi,
I'm trying to add static entries to the wins.dat file, as per The Official Samba 3 How-to guide but can't get it to work.
If I add entries and just leave it be, the server responds with unknown host and If I restart nmbd it removes all the entries (static) that I manually added.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug ?

Confused with profile filesystem permissions
What should be the filesystem permissions for the profile share? Something like
0700 user:group for the directory?
I'm getting permission denied errors from winxp pro sp2 and samba 3.0.8pre2.
Does it have something to do with "profile acls"?

how to set valid allowed workstation logins
I'm having trouble setting the Workstations value on a tdbsam backend
using pdbedit. I can't seem to find the correct syntax to accomplish
this.
I found some references in an older version of the HOWTO where there
existed "Chapter 10. Account Information Databases". This whole chapter
is missing from the current HOWTO even though it is referenced in the

LVM Input/output error
Hi,
I recently installed centos for the first time and I like it!
Also, I just started working with lvm. The following warnings
are genertated whenever I run one of lvm commands on the external
usb disk (MyBook by Western Digital).
* What could be the source for those messages?
* Should I worry about them (writing into the created LV's
seems to work)?
* If yes, how to fix them?
