wtmp repair - painless
hi,
from reiserfs it`s known to happen quite often - wtmp may be corrupted;
but actually I`m using only ext2/3 on the test machine.
After 7 days running the RH8 system I`ve noticed the first corruption of wtmp.
last shows only the line
wtmp begins Wed Dec 11 09:14:52 2002
and
/usr/sbin/dump-utmp wtmp
spits out the history,

Samba authentication across AD forests
Hello all,
I am currently trying to connect a Samba server (running on CentOS 6.5) to a Windows 2008R2 AD domain (domain A),
which itself has a two-way transitive forrest-trust to another Windows 2008R2 AD domain (domain B).
The Samba server is joined to domain A and should be able to authticate users in domain B.
Is this currently possible using some version of either Samba3 or Samba4 ?
If so,

fitting distributions
Hi;
I would like to fit a contiuous right skewed dist. to a set of data. So, I want to use MLE or Robust estimation of the parameters, then use A-D or K-S test or Robust alternative for the goodness-of -fit. Also I would rank the fitted distributions according to the p-value of the test. Does anyone know how I do this in R. any backages of Robust estimation and for goodness-of-fit?
Thank you

Hi
Could anyone please tell me what to do to resolve this error message?
I tried to run a gam with the mgcv package and got the following error:

(I have 116 covariates, I'm using the "cr" basis to speed things up, the

Predicting ordinal outcomes using lrm{Design}
Dear List,
I have two questions about how to do predictions using lrm, specifically
how to predict the ordinal response for each observation *individually*.
I'm very new to cumulative odds models, so my apologies if my questions are
too basic.
I have a dataset with 4000 observations. Each observation consists of
an ordinal outcome y (i.e., rating of a stimulus with four possible

2.2.8 doesn't compile on Tru64-5.1
HI,
I've successfully compile 2.2.8 on Solaris (6,7,8) and Linux. However on
Tru64-5.1 I get the following during the make:
Compiling smbd/dfree.c
Compiling smbd/dir.c
smbd/dir.c:649:70: macro "stat" passed 3 arguments, but takes just 2
smbd/dir.c:716:13: macro "stat" passed 3 arguments, but takes just 2

Sweave output from print.summary.glm is too wide
Hi all
I am preparing a document using Sweave; a really useful tool. But I am having a problem.
Consider this toy example Sweave file:
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
<<echo=TRUE,results=verbatim>>=
options(width=40) # Set width to 40 characters
hide <- capture.output(example(glm)) # Create an example of the problem, but hide the output

Is the Dovecot Object Storage plugin still available for purchase?
Clicking the store link [2] from this page [1] does not show any info about purchasing the plugin.

NTLM and RDR Security Signatures
Hello,
I've been using samba to share files on a Redhat server within a windows
NT domain. Recently, security policies in the domain have changed, and
security signatures are required for the LanManServer and Rdr services.
Now that this has been deployed, I get an error when I try to connect to
the SMB shares on the Redhat server from Windows hosts saying "account

Polychor() - why does it take that long?
Hello.
Using the polychor function
> polychor(data[c(s1,s2)] )
for polychoric correlations of two ordinal variables in R takes a long time
for N=7000 (20 minutes+) and significantly slows down my computer.
Now, I have a pretty old computer, but it takes about 20 seconds for MPLUS
to print out the complete polychoric correlation matrix for all 16
variables, while I am running the R function

Problems with Port Forwarding and Password auth
Secure FTP through SecureFX 1.8B3: issues (Using OpenSSH 2.1.1p2)
I downloaded the latest SecureFX because it now claims support for OpenSSH. I'm
like cool, now I'll finally be able to secure my ftp on my gateway.
First off, I really like the new configure. Everything went ok, I could ssh into
the box just fine. Unfortunately ftp didn't work work through SecureFX. I would

second y-axis in lattice xyplot
Dear R-help,
I recently discovered lattice xyplot, but have been struggling with plotting a second y-axis. I am able to do this with plot() but can't figure it out in xyplot. Any help would be appreciated.
I have found help on adding a second Y-axis when the data is all part of the same data frame, but I have two different data frames.
Both data sets are being plotted against "Date".

lattice xyplot strip colors and location
Hi all,
I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to modify an xyplot I created using the lattice package. I would like to change default strip colors and locations.
I started with numeric data in 4 columns, which look like this:
0.25 2 1 32
0.25 2 2 30
0.25 2 3 27
0.25 2 4 23
0.25 2 5 17
0.25 3 1 30
