Network_access_denied and no group in domain
Was: RE: [Samba] samba 3.0 and freebsd 5.1
Hi Aaron,
I deinstalled the 3.0.1 port and got the source tarball for 3.0.2a and
installed from there. I also swapped out 3.0.1 for 3.0.2 on the domain
controller when I discovered the second problem.
I can now use smbclient to log into a file share on the member server,
giving an " smb: \> " prompt but doing ls gives an error of:

[OT] Fyodor terminates SCO nmap rights -- how about Samba?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
As you all may know Fyodor of nmap fame has terminated SCO's
rights to distribute namp with its products. See:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/27/1077676955381.html
I know this is off-topic, but I am interested in opinions
on the subject of SCO using Samba in it's products while they declare
the GPL is unconstitutional and invalid.

net ads join hangs forever
Hi Aaron,
we've just identified this problem and thought you may be interested if you haven't resolved
this already. The bind is failing because the admin account being used to join the domain is a
member of too many groups (waiting to hear from M$ what constitutes too many) and as a result the
Kerberos TGT is too large and the kpasswd service on the M$ DC just ignores the change

file permissions on home directories and admin user copying files to it
We want to copy files with the group in the admin list of the [homes]
share. The problem is that the copied files then are owned by root.
I know this is normal unix behavior. However we want the copied files to
be owned by the user of the homeshare.
I read the samba howto section "Users Cannot Write to a Public Share".
Although I want to set the owner on the home shares and not on a

To all with FreeBSD 5.2.1 and net ads join problems
If your getting kinit problems with net ads join (don't bother with
testjoin-it will error out no matter), do the following:
1. Change an administrators password, especially if you upgraded from
NT 4.
2. Create a krb5.conf file int /etc that looks like this:
logging]
default = FILE:/var/log/krb5libs.log
kdc = FILE:/var/log/krb5kdc.log
admin_server = FILE:/var/log/kadmind.log

Samba 3.0.1 ADS/Kerberos problems relating to Win2k/xp browsing to samba server
Hello All,
I've been discovering the joys of Samba/ADS integration here
(the environment is a chip design concern that has chip
simulation tools, many of which run in Linux, but some of
which only run in Windows. Winbind, and a Linux based
NAS server are the cornerstone through which Windows and
Linux elements of the toolchain will be able to seamlessly
communicate, once we get all the

net join problems
My last install of Samba was 3.2.2 on Solaris 10 Sparc platform. Had no
problems. I'm now trying to install 3.4.0 on Solaris 10 x86 platform.
With 3.2.2 I would join our Windows domain as such:
net join -S servername -w DOMAIN_NAME -U username
All worked fine. Now with 3.4.0 I'm getting usage error trying to do the
same thing. Here is my config:
# ./testparm

Issues with domain auth

Managers, I am having trouble configuring samba as a domain member

connect to the password server as follows.
Machine NDEVDC1 rejected the tconX on the IPC$ share. Error as follows:
NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Any help is appreciated.

gssapi-with-mic and Win2K KDC?
Upgrading to the 3.8.x versions of OpenSSH appears to have broken
support for Win2K KDC's. Win2K supports gssapi just fine, but the new
gssapi-with-mic does not appear to work. I was able to use the old
3.6.x versions with Kerberos authentication, and the newer 3.7.x
versions with gssapi authentication, but 3.8.x does not seem to work at
all. The mitm patch provided for 3.8p1 does work, but

- browsing the samba server via 'smbclient -L //samba -U user%pw' fails
with 'session setup failed: NT_STATUS_TRUSTED_RELATIONSHIP_FAILURE'

Help Please!
I keep getting these errors
[2002/11/01 11:24:02, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_socket_data(507)
read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = Connection reset by peer
I have also seen write_socket_data errors. We have checked the switches and
see no errors on them. These are various clients, some win2k,98,Nt4 etc. I
have tried different versions of samba and made my smb.conf as basic as
possible.
