RedHat Linux 6.1, Samba, & DHCPD problems
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi, I've checked the archives, and didn't see anything relating to this: I have a RH 6.1 fileserver running Samba (latest update from RH). I have 3 computer plus a laptop on this network, all properly accessing the Samba shares. The IP address for all of these systems are statically assigned. Also, all of these systems automatically restore a file

Fwd: DHCP Updates to DNS - Multiple Entries with Same IP
Rowland, You're absolutely right - with '128' both DHCP servers listen and *may* reply, therefore besides failover provide load balancing. Even if both servers respond with *Offers* to the client, the client will select one and issue *one Request* to the selected server. E.g., below is a log records from my failover DHCP (192.168.0.2) server: May 17 00:09:37 s-dhcpd-2 dhcpd[1578]:

I solved it by modifying the script to do conditional updates.

Cannot remove old NS record
Hi All, A while ago I replaced a Samba AD on old hardware with a another AD on newer hardware. Everything went smoothly including the demotion of the old AD. However after I did some cleanup DNS records and turned off the old hardware I noticed that there still was a NS record associated with the old AD. So I went to the wiki page https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS_Administration and

"force create mode" not enforced from linux client
My Samba v3.0.25b (in CentOS v5.1) has the smb.conf shown below. What I'm seeing is that "force create mode" is not enforced when accessed by a Linux CIFS client (Fedora 7). On the server, user steve has a home directory of /home/steve, and the public directory is /home/samba/public. The shares are mounted from the client fstab like this: //nemesis/steve /mnt/cifs/myhome cifs

DHCP Updates to DNS - Multiple Entries with Same IP
Thank you to Rowland, L.P.H. van Belle, the entire samba team, and others that help. I've been running samba in our fire department for over a year. I'm running a self compiled samba version 4.11.9, bind version 9.11.3, BIND9_DLZ, isc-dhcp-server version 4.3.5 with fail over (between the 2 DC's) on Ubuntu 18.04 on Odroid N2 aarch64. I have 2 identical DC's on the network FDDC10

Client machine cannot acquire the IP from dhcp server
Hi, syslinux: I use pxelinux to install Linux from network. Currently, my problem is: The first time, the client machine can acquire the IP address from dhcp server but at the second time, the client machine cannot acquire the IP again. The only way is to remove the /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases file in server and restart the dhcpd service. Then the client machine can get the IP again.
