RE : Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Are you sure of that ? I thought it was possible... If it is not, I've got another slightly off topic question : how to I demote my former Windows NT PDC (that is now a BDC) to a normal Windows NT server, so that I have no problem with it ? Thanks in advance. -------- Message d'origine-------- De: Umberto Zanatta [mailto:uzanatta@provincia.treviso.it] Date: lun. 26/07/2004 14:09

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All, I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this? Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

migrating local user profiles to roaming domain profiles
I have a network of 2K and XP clients that I am migrating to a domain using Samba 3 as a PDC. I have the domain working quite well after quite a bit of tweaking. My problem is that I want people to logon to the domain, but I also want them to keep their profiles from their local users. How can I go about this? -- Andrew Gaffney

smbclient can't find this new XP
I upgraded to 2.2.2 on Solaris 7, and changed the regestry requiressignorseal to 0. Although this new XP is able to do the samba mounts I need, I'd like to be able to back it to UNIX tapes with smbclient, but all I get is : /usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient -L //paulxp added interface ip=161.217.10.13 bcast=161.217.10.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 session request to PAULXP failed (Called name not

Profiles and home directory - Samba PDC
I have sucessfully got a windows 2K machine to join the domain but I can not get it to run a logon script, map the drive letter to the home directory or create a roaming profile. All my smb.conf setting look correct as per the samples and How To's so I'm stuck! smb.conf is as follows: # Global parameters [global] workgroup = LINUX netbios name = LINUX1 server string = Samba Server

Roaming profiles won't roam via how-to
Hey folks, I've been testing Samba 4 with some Windows 7 virtual machines and the Active Directory how-to instructions here: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO. As far as I can tell, the instructions work exactly as described, except when it comes to roaming profiles. When I attempt to use those, the user can log in but gets a message warning that Windows could not load their

Roaming Profiles: Advantages and disadvantages?
Hello everyone. I wanted to get some feedback and opinions from people regarding the use of Roaming profiles. originally, I was planning on using roaming profiles. However, I am starting to wonder if this is such a good idea. The reason is that, if I implement roaming profiles, there is a good chance that there will be network congestion as well as a lot of stress on the server. (50 users so

disabling roaming profiles for some networks only
Hey everyone. We have two offices accessing the same Samba server, which is a PDC and file server. The server is located in one of the offices, but the other office is only connected by a relatively slow link (1.5 megabit/s). I'm looking for a way to turn off roaming profiles only for those users which are at the remote site. (It's a tad inconvenient when it takes an hour or two to
