XML issue
Debian Lenny, latest Wine. I just installed a program that my WOW guild is raving about. Had to install .NET 2 to get it to run. Only problem so far is that I can't open a saved profile. It saves in XML format. That part seems ok, but I can't open it again. The process hangs on the first of three steps, locks up, and I have to force quit the app. I can open and read the file with a web

minor swap issue ....
.... I have a CentOS 5.n VM running on a Fedora 14 server/host, installed using virt-manager, pretty plain vanilla. I use it to compile binaries to run under RHEL/CentOS 5.n OS. I occasionally notice that when the VM gets paged out by the server, it takes several minutes to get it back in :-/ (see below). On the host, logged in to a shell through a terminal window, this A.M.: [wam at Q6600,

Samba problem under IRIX ....
.... I am using Samba 2.2.2 (from SGI freeware) under IRIX 6.5.20 very successfully until a few weeks ago. I use it to backup my Gtw 1600 MHz box using smbclient under cron for automated backups. I attach a small file of error messages I am getting now. This worked (for months) when I first set it up about 15-18 months ago. Unfortunately at some indetermniate time in the recent past (a few

gam --- a new contributed package
I have contributed a "gam" library to CRAN, which implements "Generalized Additive Models". Version 0.93 of GAM package on CRAN
I have posted an update to the GAM package. Note that this package implements gam() as described in the "White" S book (Statistical models in S). In particular, you can fit models with lo() terms (local regression) and/or s() terms (smoothing splines), mixed in, of course, with any terms appropriate for glms. A number of bugs in version 0.92 have been fixed; notably 1) some problems

Thank You!
Robert's suggestion indeed fixed the problem. I kept thinking those entries were necessary in inetd.conf. Also, kind thanks to Fred Gilbert for his prompt responses.:-) John

'Apparently' trouble with name spaces and Sweave...
Ben Bolstad experienced something odd while running R CMD check over a package of ours using r-devel (yesterday's fresh). He tracked down the problem to a vignette calling 'library(MASS)'. Please kindly ignore if this is a known (and temporary) issue. Laurent ----- Forwarded message from Ben Bolstad <bolstad@stat.berkeley.edu> ----- Return-Path:

[LLVMdev] loop vectorizer: JIT + AVX segfaults
Do you have a stack trace of the segfault? We have two different code emitters for X86 in LLVM. The one used by the normal compiler and MCJIT and the other used by the legacy JIT. All of the test cases for AVX support go through the first one so it gets the most attention. We try to keep the legacy JIT in sync with it, but have a history of failing at that. The stack trace of the segfault may

[LLVMdev] loop vectorizer: JIT + AVX segfaults
Is it possible that the AVX support in the JIT engine or x86-64 backend is not mature? I am getting segfaults when switching from a vector length 4 to 8 in my application. I isolated the barfing function and it still segfaults in the minimal setup: The IR attached implements the following simple function: void bar(int start, int end, int ignore , bool add , bool addme , float* out, float* in) {

For those who don't know, Greg Houlette sent in a request from an address that doesn't conveniently accept replies. If people can't be bothered to read our replies, we shouldn't be bothered by their requests. Just a note. Maybe a request for a killfile. --Dan

Problem with fts found against Dovecot hg; examples + trace attached
I've been wanting to try out Squat for full-text indexing for a while now, so I finally gave it a whirl. I did a fresh pull from hg. I have it enabled, but it's taking *forever* to do a query. (Using alpine, I issued a Select command for all messages with some word anywhere, which presumably caused the Squat indexer to run.) I think Dovecot is infinite looping. I thought something
